Men and Crocs

Guys, do any of you actually wear these things?

  • sure do, wouldn't leave the resort without them.

  • No way, I wouldn't be caught dead out in public wearing them.

I was the same, but I've since tried running in them and did a marathon day through two parks and now I wear them almost daily.

Mario Batali wears them, he's an Iron Chef. Of course, he's also got a pony tail. . .

Dude, get yourself some Tevas or Reefs. Not because Crocs aren't manly, they're just ugly as sin.

My complaint about crocs is that they don't have adequate arch support (walking on a consistent sponge with no more support in one area than the next area). I've really, really tried to wear DS's crocs (same shoe size) and while they are easy to slip on to go get the newspaper or run into the backyard, I can't see them being good for my feet during day long treks at WDW. I agree with an earlier post - give me a good, dependable pair of gym/tennis shoes and I'm good to go!

Posting for my dh here!! After making fun of dd and my Crocs, he, in secret, went out and tried some on. He came home with a pair!!! Now, he owns several pair. He loves them for just kicking around in, as well as in the parks. In fact, we have some older friends, in their 70's. The dh went out and bought some Crocs because my dh raved about them. Now he is a convert as well.
I have high arches. My back can start aching, as well as my knees, if I don't get enough support. I have found the Crocs do a pretty decent job. In fact, they are really better than my New Balance or Nike 'sneakers'. Not sure why, but they are. But, they aren't for everyone. While visiting my mother-in-law last summer, we were getting ready to go out to dinner. Nothing fancy...pub type spot. When she saw what we all had on our feet (our Crocs!!) she asked if we were really going out in public in those ugly things. Ah yeah....of course we are!!!

I agree that Crocs are ugly...but who cares what other people think of the way you look? You should wear whatever is most comfortable even if it makes you look "Goofy." :goofy:

I figure I'll look dumb enough wearing my waist pack in the parks, so why not throw in ugly shoes and complete the package! :rotfl2:

There's another advantage to keep in mind with wearing Crocs to the parks...your feet will dry off a whole lot faster when it rains or you go on a water ride. Wet soggy sneakers are no fun to be walking around in. :sad2:

A LOT of college guys wear them! My DH wears his, he has the ones with the velcro strap in back, they look a little more....Teva-ish if you know what I mean. His are not any glaring color, brown, so they don't call a lot of attention. He loves the comfort.

If you're anywhere near a college town you might notice more guys wearing them.
:thumbsup2

My DH tried on a pair last weekend, and LOVED them! He has to wait to get a pair though, my birthday is in 2 weeks and I'm expecting a pair for me!

My husband wears them and has for a few years now. He doesn't just wear them in the parks either. He wears them around home - to the store - out for lunch - when and where ever he wants to.

We are both at the stage in our lives where we really don't care if someone else thinks we look "funny" or our shoes are ugly. We are clean, we are comfortable, we are happy and that is all that matters.

Life is too short to be anything less and stress about what is on your feet.

no one mistakes me for Minnie Mouse.:)

Hey, what's wrong with being mistaken for Minnie Mouse? If she's good enough for Mickey... ;)

Actually, my Dad just got a pair for our family trip in June, and he is never one to buy into fads. Although he can't wear them to work because of safety issue, I've seen him sporting them around on the weekends. He got a dark gray pair which are actually rather understated. Besides, what's girlie about size 13 crocs!

Crocs are the favorite shoes of my two sons (DS8 and DS5) and I'm getting me a couple of pairs to try in the park. My kids love the water rides and I don't intend to ruin a good pair of leather sandals or to walk around in soggy socks and tennis shoes for a few hours after Kali or Splash Mountain.

For those who dismiss them as ugly, they're no less attractive than clogs, which have been around for years. I could care less that they're ugly. (For that matter, tennis shoes are hardly a designer statement, either.) I'm not trying to impress anyone with my fashion sense at WDW (and I am careful about how I dress in the Real World).

My hubby will not wear them and I would tink he would look so stupid. On the other hand my cousin wears them every day and looks great I guess it is just a personality issue

I saw lots of guys of various ages wearing Crocs last week.

I say go for it!

DH is a very conservative guy, at least in the way he dresses. He never owned a pair of jeans until I ought him one when he was 30. Sneakers are only for working out.

But...

Three days into our Christmas trip last year, after hearing me raving about how much more comfortable my feet were this trip he bought a pair of Mickey crocs in Animal Kingdom (black ones of course -- more manly). Other than at work where he has a uniform (he's in the Navy) he wears his crocs. The other day he even came down wearing them with shorts.

We were in Nordstroms last weekend and he was absolutely thrilled to see that all the shoe departments (women's, kids', and men's) had big croc displays. Though he does wear his all the time I think he was relieved that a respectable store like Nordstrom's was validating his fashion choice.

I'm not a guy, but I gotta tell you that I think crocs are the dumbest looking shoe EVER!!!

I think most people agree with you. I'm a guy and I definitely think they are ugly. But I am past the point in my life where I make my decisions based on what other people will think of my sense of style.
Before Crocs, no matter what shoes or insoles I tried at the parks, my feet were killing me by lunchtime. With Crocs, I can walk around all day without being miserable. To me, that's worth wearing ugly shoes.

I think a lot of people just don't get the foot pain that some of us have, so they don't understand what a lifesaver Crocs are. If I could find Nike's that were just as comfortable as Crocs, then I would wear them. But for a lot of us, there just aren't any regular shoes that keep our feet feeling good after walking all day.

Ok my DH said he would never wear them but when he had to run outside real quick he'd always put mine on and mine are too small for him. So for months I told him to just buy a pair and he'd say no way. So I ended up buying him a pair of the aspen style (no holes) for him "from the kids" for his b-day. He wears them alot and does like them. ;)
Yes they are kind of ugly but very comfy!! I say go for it.

My Boyfriend always makes remarks about how ugly my Crocs are, both the Disney ones and the regular ones. We are heading to WDW at the end of this month and I know his feet are going to be aching in those worn out sneakers he loves so much. So I took it upon myself to order him a nice black/red pair of Disney Crocs. To my surprise, when he tried them on, he loved them!! He still thinks they are hideous, but at least his feet will feel fine. (No being a Crabby Patty allowed in WDW). We got take out for Dinner the other night and when we went to pick it up he was like hang on I need to put on a pair of shoes......and then he says.....ohhh wait....I'm going to wear my Mickeys!! HAHAHAHA!!!

I have to admit they are not the most attractive shoe I have ever owned. But after hopping all 4 parks in 4 days in mine, I wouldn't wear anything else.

I wear them as well. They are extremely comfortable.

One thing that I would recommend, though, is to wear them for a while before you try to do the parks in them. They will "conform" to your feet over time and get more comfortable. Just like other shoes, you would want to break them in a bit at first.

I've said it before; I'll say it again.

When I go to play in the parks, I refuse to wear anything except my Crocs -- style, Offroad in Black. And yes, that's with ankle socks.

More people are wearing Crocs than ever before, and with good reason. Besides, Real Men don't care what other people think of their shoes. I know what I think of my shoes, and that's all that counts.

I voted for my guy. His crocs are broken in and very comfy - must haves for vacation!
