Memory Maker Worth It?

I’m taking my kids for the first time to Disney for Halloween. We will be there a week. They are 3, 5, and 8. Is memory maker worth buying or should I just give the CMs our camera to use? Or just buy one or two of the pictures after the trip?

If you're going to Disney World, it's all or nothing on the pictures, but you get the pictures for your entire stay, any time you go to the photopass photographer, plus any ride photos from rides you go on that has a camera. The pictures are usually really good and several places have unique shots. My favorite is the galaxies edge world shot and animal kingdom zoom in/zoom out shot, technically a video instead of just a picture. They have one near the magic kingdom castle as well.

For me, especially with it being first trip, I feel like it's a good value and worth having.

Yes. 100000000000%. Also at Universal I do think their My Photo Package is worth it as well. Busch Gardens not so much (but we always purchase a print of the picture at the entrance.

Someone we were at Disney with last time had the Memory Maker package. They could down load the photos within a certain length of time after our trip was over. Then you can print them on your own or use a more economical online printing service. Disney prices for individual prints seemed pricey to us. If you want a LOT of pictures or don't feel comfortable handing your phone/camera to a stranger, this is the way to go. If you don't need/want a lot of pictures, then Memory Maker isn't worth the price. Not sure if covid has changed anything about Disney employees being able to use your camera to take pictures.

It did for awhile, but I believe Disney World employees can take pictures with personal devices again. I don't think Disneyland is allowing that at this time though.

Remember that covid changed character interaction with guests. So you can still get a photopass photo in front of the castle, for example, but I don’t think you can get photopass photos with the characters the way you used to. Also, if masks are required on a ride and someone in your ride vehicle from another family decides to take off their mask, the photo will not be available.

We've always used Memory Maker - if you get a good CM/photographer who spends some time with you and you have a discussion about the type of shots you want then it's absolutely worth it. You'll often find some of those extra magical photos in amongst your pictures where they'll have added characters to them e.g. Tinkerbell, Stitch, porgs over in GE. etc

We got it in August and it was worth it. That way if you get a bunch of great pics you aren't picking and choosing just download them all! It is almost impossible to get a decent picture of my family of 5 but the photopass photographers (often with the help of other guests) managed to make it happen.
Just used one of our EPCOT pics for our Christmas card!

We paid for and used memory maker quite a few times in the past.

Once it was "included" with the AP, even better. Another "free perk".

I think it is a great thing to do. Overall, I would strongly recommend getting it, especially for a first visit.

My only issue is, lately, many of the pictures have been missing. Now, we go all the time. I have 50 plus pictures of me on Buzz Lightyear, so if I miss one, i am not too concerned. While some of the missing pictures may be a "technical issue" (in other words, I am wearing an older Magic Band that does not get picked up as the battery has died), but I also think Disney is still blocking pictures if someone on the ride is not properly masked up.

That can be a bummer if you are in a "car" and someone from another party does not have the mask on. Think tower of terror where they would kill the picture if any of the twenty people on the ride did not have their mask on correctly.

Again, does not really bother me today, as I look at it as a "free perk", but it would probably bother me if it was something I "Paid" for.

I went in September and received photos where others in my vehicle had taken off their mask on Everest, ToT, and 7DMT.

You've had good answers already, but I'll chime in and add to those saying YES. As a single mom, my aim is to get myself in the picture as much as possible. I don't have nearly enough pictures from my childhood that include my mom because she was always behind the camera, and selfies don't always cut it. I will always do Memory Maker - we're going in November, and after our last trip I now know to hit up every photographer we see, if possible, because different ones may have different Magic Shots available, and will get different angles and poses. Do it!

Yes the memory Make Worth it 100% in my book. i think if you spend money for each and every image taken by photopass people and rides you would definitely spend more

This hasn’t been true for some time. Lots of strangers in my pics without masks. I’m going to have to learn how to put a “Censored” banner over their faces for my photo book as I don’t want to see them in my pics

Adding another YES to thread. We always get it. I’m a sucker for a good ride pic and love the family shots so I’m actually in the pic. True they can use your phone and take the pic but it is just way easier to scan your band and go. Plus the magic shots are so fun.

Thought they had to revoke the whole "someone took off their mask = No photo for ANYONE " policy. Sounds like enough people
complained so they stopped doing that. Really at that point how do you know who has a medical reason for no mask, and at least you could still let everyone else still have their picture - maybe not the one who took their mask off - bet it was too complicated for Photopass /Memory Maker to just punish the perpetrator alone. I would seriously complain if I had been waiting to ride a certain ride for years and then some stranger ends up ruining my only chance at a photo ( Splash Mountain - anyone ?)

Have used Memory Maker on all previous trips with the kids and usually we get a great group photo - Christmas Card out of the deal, but am still debating on an upcoming trip for just 2 adults. If they still let cast members take your phone it would be easier ( and less expensive) than worrying how many Stock Photos and other add ons we never use taking up space on our hard drive when we get home.
