Memory maker vs photopass

In the past, we've always bought the advance photopass CD and sought out the photographers at each park to take pics for us or during character meet n greets.

I read a lot about memory maker here, but no one is talking about photopass anymore. But on the Disney website it shows you can still purchase both.

I'm confused, what's the difference and which one is a better value?

There is a $30 difference between the two.

With both you get all photopass photographer photos. The archive disc provides them on a disc, with MM you download them. You can still modify them and can download them multiple times within the allotted time frame.

With MM you also get all ride photos and meal photos. The ride photos are $15 a piece if you purchase them. So, it doesn't take long to make up that $30.

After several trips, I still don't know...if I don't purchase either, but still have pics taken in the parks on photopass, I can still see them on the photopass site, correct? I've always bought the photopass with the fear I couldn't download them UNLESS I bought some form of an PP package. Am I right that you have to purchase some mm or pp to download or have I been able to download them all along without having to make a purchase?

If you want to download photos you must purchase. Whether you do this before your trip (discounted) or after (more expensive) is up to you.

If you don't pre-puchase either MM or PP, you can still view your photos online BUT they will charge you to purchase your photos as either a print or a download. That price will be PER picture or you can purchase MM or PP. So yes, you need to purchase one or the other if you want your pictures (or buy just one or two at their listed price.)

That's what I've always thought, but never having 'not' prepurchased a PP package I had no reference.
