Memory maker and annual pass upgrade

I'm thinking about upgrading out 7 day park hoppers to annual passes for our upcoming trip. I purchased memory maker so what happens with that if I upgrade now that the annual passes include photos? Does that cost apply towards passes or would I get a refund? I searched the forums but couldn't find this specific information.

I went in November and we had 4 day park hoppers (from Undercover Tourist) and I had pre-purchased the Memory Maker. A couple weeks before our trip I found out that a conference I will be attending next summer is being moved from Vegas to Orlando (on property)! I decided best bet would be to upgrade to AP's to cover both trips and get the room discount for the summer trip. We stopped in to the Guest Services at Hollywood Studios on our second day so our tickets had already been activated. She gave us credit for the full Disney price 4 day parkhopper towards our AP's as well as credited me the $169 I had paid for the pre-purchase for MM towards the AP purchase. It was very easy and she never questioned the MM credit so it seemed to be standard procedure to me.

If you decide to do the upgrade, you could even try calling prior to your trip to get the MM refund. The first year MM came out, I had purchased it only to have WDW come out later with an AP discount that included free MM. When I booked the new AP discount with free MM, I called the MM number and they refunded my original MM purchase.

So, does this mean that the MM is free with an Annual Pass? We have never purchased an annual pass as our previous trips were limited to 7 nights a year, but next year we were thinking of purchasing one as we will be making the trek twice in one year Having a "free" MM makes the annual pass more appealing!

It's not Memory Maker, but you do get unlimited PhotoPass downloads. There's no disc or anything like that.

It's not MM per se - it's better, IMHO! You can download each photo as many times as you want during the year your AP is active (or, presumably, for a year after the photo is taken if you renew the AP). So the photos don't expire after 45 days, and you don't have only 30 days from when you download the first one to finish downloading all of them. DH and I were just there and upgraded my pre-existing AP to a Gold Pass and had a wonderful time getting photos, especially Magic Shots. (My favorite involved the trolls from Frozen.)

We are going to upgrade to annual passes during our trip in February. Will the photopass activate right away? I know the Memory Maker cost more if you didn't buy it early enough and then took a couple days to activate when you purchased it in advance. I just want to make sure I can start using the photopass perk right away when i upgrade.

You can use the photo pass right away, no waiting period. In fact, i upgraded my old AP to the new AP including MM and the photos from the day before were included to download for "free".
