My DD has to memorize the first 50 elements, abbreviations and atomic numbers by next Friday. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, etc.? I also posted on the CB.

Thank you.

Thanks. Unfortunately, she wants them memorized 1-50. That song would mean learning the entire table, then having to pick out which ones are 1-50. But thanks for offering up a suggestion. :goodvibes

Oh wow. :o I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions other than maybe flashcards and blank periodic tables to fill in. I guess, just work on the harder ones and breeze by Hydrogen and Oxygen. Good luck to your DD!

i had to memorize 50 elements, flashcards really helped me. but i had some weird elements. but flashcards worked the best. also making connections with abbreviations to names. like here's one i used. lead is used in pencils. the most common sandwhich for school is the PB&J. pb = lead. corny but it works.

I think this website might just be the thing. :thumbsup2

What's making this more difficult is that they have to be memorized 1-50. Can't be in columns, can't be in a song, can't be all liquids, all gases, etc. Must be 1-50.

BTW, this is for my daughter's 8th grade science class. I'm sure it will be great to get this out of the way before high school, but I really wish she was given more time than one week.

8t grade? Wow! I didn't have to start that stuff until I was a junior in high school and even then, we didn't have to memorize 50 at a time in order!

Thanks. Comments like this make me feel better. I thought this was a little much in just one week's time, but I didn't want to think I was being a helicopter parent of a special snowflake. :lmao:
