Memorizing the Periodic Table of Elements

My DD has to memorize the first 50 elements, abbreviations and atomic numbers by next Friday. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, etc.? I also posted on the CB.

It'll help with the names, and I'm not too sure about the rest. The abbreviations are pretty easy to memorize, but good luck with the rest!

Thanks. Unfortunately, she wants them memorized 1-50. That song would mean learning the entire table, then having to pick out which ones are 1-50. But thanks for offering up a suggestion.

Oh wow. I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions other than maybe flashcards and blank periodic tables to fill in. I guess, just work on the harder ones and breeze by Hydrogen and Oxygen. Good luck to your DD!

i had to memorize 50 elements, flashcards really helped me. but i had some weird elements. but flashcards worked the best. also making connections with abbreviations to names. like here's one i used. lead is used in pencils. the most common sandwhich for school is the PB&J. pb = lead. corny but it works.

What's making this more difficult is that they have to be memorized 1-50. Can't be in columns, can't be in a song, can't be all liquids, all gases, etc. Must be 1-50.

BTW, this is for my daughter's 8th grade science class. I'm sure it will be great to get this out of the way before high school, but I really wish she was given more time than one week.

8t grade? Wow! I didn't have to start that stuff until I was a junior in high school and even then, we didn't have to memorize 50 at a time in order!

Thanks. Comments like this make me feel better. I thought this was a little much in just one week's time, but I didn't want to think I was being a helicopter parent of a special snowflake.
