I was taking a break at work and for some reason got thinking about my cellphone's ringtone (I know random lol) which is the soundtrack of DLR's Space Mountain. Of course this led me into thinking about my first time ever riding Space Mountain at WDW.

It gave me a nice chuckle because I think my reaction to it the first time was hilarious. I must've been about 16 and I really wanted to ride it so I begged my dad to go on with me (I didn't realize we would be in separate seats). My dad was kind of annoyed by the point we finally got in line for the ride. I was all excited until I started reading all those signs warning you against riding because of the high level drops and stuff. I nearly wanted to wimp out, but my dad was in such a bad mood my fear of getting chewed out for making him wait on that long line made me decide to just suck it up.

Once on the ride, I ended up sitting in the middle seat with my dad in the front and a random dude in the back. I held on to that bar for dear life as we were about to take off. As soon as we finished going through the tunnel (or maybe during it lol) I started screaming and did not stop. With every turn I kept screaming bracing myself for the "big drop". About halfway through the ride though I realized I was still waiting on drops that didn't seem to be coming and I instantly stopped screaming and was quietly enjoying the rest of the ride. Thinking on it now I think it is mighty comical how afraid I was of it when I really didn't need to be. I remember walking away from it thinking that it was more a ride of speed than it was an actual roller coaster with drops in it. (I wish I could still say the same though the last time I rode it I felt like we went through far more drops than in years past).

To make that memory even more funny, the guy behind me was laughing the whole way and I am pretty certain it was because of me lol. Ironically enough though, a few years later it was my sister's first time riding Space Mountain and every time she screamed or said something about the position she was in (she sat behind me so I could hear her say stuff) I would laugh uncontrollably. She enjoyed it though, eventhough she says her leg hurt because it was in an awkward position lol.

I would love to hear you guys' memories of riding your favourite ride for the first time :)

The 1st time I rode the Winnie the Pooh ride was when my oldest 2 kids were like 1 and 3. To say the least, we were VERY Underwhelmed!!! I always laugh about the 1st time we rode Pooh, we got off embarrassed!!! Don't get me wrong, we love the ride and never miss it. It was just our 1st experience with a Disney dark ride and we were used to Six Flags type rides. Toooo funny!!

So this photo describes my first time riding Space Mountain. This summer I was beyond terrified and really thought there was no chance of me riding. The first day I went in the parks for my college program, it was also one of my good friends' birthdays, and she had made FP+ and such without telling me what the plans were. Turns out that the plans were to get me to ride everything I was scared of! (Space, Splash, BTMM, 7DMT). The very first thing she did was drag me on Space; I screamed and cried and nearly pulled her arm off (it's particularly hilarious if you know where this photo is taken- before there has even been a single drop!!!). But ultimately I loved the ride. Now it's one of my favorites and it was actually the LAST ride of my college program as well.

Not so much a memory of a first ride, but my first time coming to Disneyworld in May of 1998. I was 10 years old.

We were heading to Florida from Minnesota - it was middle of May, and it was 6 or 7 in the morning in MN when we caught our flight. MN is cold and it was around 40* when we left that morning. So we had sweatshirts and pants on. Our flight was delayed, and we had a connecting flight in Atlanta where we would meet my aunt and cousin, who were flying to meet us from Pennsylvania. We get to Atlanta airport, and we have about 15 minutes until our flight to Florida departs. This was around 10 or 11 in the morning, and we hadn't eaten anything yet. Plus we had to get from one side of the airport to the other. We were RUNNING. We meet up with my aunt/cousins at the gate, and take off to Florida. I'm hungry, I'm not feeling well, I'm warm being in sweatshirts and pants. We get to Orlando, our luggage didn't make it on the plane. So there we were in 80* Florida weather with our pants, sweatshirts, empty bellies, and no luggage. We get to the hotel and my cousin and aunt's luggage made it - so I just wore something my cousin had packed. We went to Magic Kingdom from there (probably arrived around 4:00 PM), and I'm SICK from not eating all day. We walk into the gates, and I start puking and my Mom is trying to help me. What a magical way to start my first trip to WDW! Thankfully our luggage arrived that evening, and don't worry, we got something to eat...I'll just never forget entering the gates of WDW like that. I laugh thinking about it now, but also mortified that people around us had to experience that vision. LOL

I distinctly remember being so freaked out by the Haunted Mansion during my very first trip when I was 9 years old. I was crying before we even got to the entrance. I didn't want to ride it at all. I still went on it with my family and I was so scared the whole time. Now it's my favorite ride! Such a fun memory. :goodvibes

The first time I rode SM/WDW I was with my then 11 year old Niece. Pre-trip I had given her the Disney World for Kids book and told her to pick out some things she really wanted to do and SP was one of them. We were gabbing away and she started noticing kids about her age bailing out of line... when we got to the "Warning you shouldn't ride if..." sign she studied it carefully and then turned to me and said "I can't go on this ride". "Why?" I asked. "Because I have tennis elbow." At that point we'd been in line for 45 minutes so I made her get in the car... bad auntie. She loved and I hated it.

Probably my favorite ride now is Splash Mtn, my first time riding that we were in line for about 3 hours but really wanted to do that from seeing it on the commercial. I liked the themeing in the line and on the ride.

My favorite now-retired ride was Delta Dreamflight, I went on that the first time I went there. I was amazed to see the plane display at the beginning and the line with the lights and music. Then I really liked the ride too
