Memories of Little Green Men and Sardines (6/8-17, 2010) **FINAL UPDATE 2-25-2011**

I have GREAT news! LOL I FINALLY convinced my husband that we are taking our own stroller to Disney! I told him that just because we've never taken a stroller before doesn't mean we can't this time. I said its not an inconvenience to anyone at the airport...they transport hundreds of strollers & wheelchairs every day! I told him that since I am in charge of all the planning, I would find out what the process is so we know what to do & where to leave the stroller. It will be soooo nice to have our own stroller! CBR is so huge it will be nice to have if our son doesn't feel like walking or if he gets tired. I also prefer it in the parks because it reclines so he can relax or nap. That will be a perfect time for me to go into shops with breakable items...last trip, I didn't get to go into the shops in Morocco at EPCOT & its my favorite country there! I just couldn't go in with him because mostly everything is breakable & it would have just been a disaster! So, with the stroller, if he's napping, I figure I can go into all those shops I avoided last trip! :yay:

/QUOTE]Great news!!! you won't regret taking it. i would never rent from disney- just way to expensive especially since they raised the rate!!

We loved having our stroller. It is not a problem at the airport either, in fact it was a lifesaver there too. it was easier to have DS strapped in it, instead of having to carry him and all the other bags we had (plus a car seat!). It is easy enough to fold up and get through security and the scanners. See if your airport has a family line. the Orlando airport (MCO) DOES have a family line for security- this makes it easier for families not feeling like they are holding everyone else up. Plus makes it easier for business travellers (I've been on both sides of the coin) to get through security more quickly since they are 'pros' at it.

and you are right, CBR is so spread out- you will definitely appreciate having it there. We loved having it at the parks. our typical routine was drive to the park (or TTC for MK), unload, push stroller to the tram, ride tram, then of course we are at the TTC, you have to get on a monorail at that point. it was a lot of folding and unfolding since we prefer to drive, which is why we selected a stroller that is compact and easy to fold with one hand (and has a strap to carry it too). once in the parks- it was so nice to have. since our son was just 2, we didn't let him walk around that much on his own. He actually liked being in the stroller. We made sure he had time to run around in the playgrounds and stuff. Now that he will be 3 this trip, he is more independent and pretty good at holding our hands. We will let him walk more, but still take the stroller. He likes to actually push it himself sometimes. Having a reclining one is great too- he can be sleeping while you are shopping!!! ;)

Are you taking a car seat on the plane for him? We did this last time and talk about a pain!! the FAA does not require that you have one. And to be honest, i don't know that we will take one this time. I've spoken with pilot friends who say, the chances of a crash are so slim obviously, but at that point, a car seat isn't going to make a world of difference. We struggled to get our car seat in the plane and installed properly (they do require you put it in the window seat too). it was a pain, but our son was comfortable and able to sleep well on the trip. NOt sure he will sleep when in a regular seat..........so something we will think about. We rent a car too, but we could always rent a car seat from the rental company. it was a pain to lug that thing around the airport and we actually put it in the stroller to push it around some. LOL!!

Yes, I am thrilled that we are taking our own stroller!!! It will save so much money & will definitely be less stressful. I'm planning to board our cat somewhere so I can just use the money I was saving for the stroller rental for him. That's a huge help!

I definitely think the stroller will be helpful at the airport when we're trying to lug all of our bags around. I'm letting DS bring his own little backpack this year...last trip he didn't have his own seat so I just put all of his stuff in my bag & the only item I had that was "mine" was my camera & cell. It was ok with me though, my entire world revolves around that little guy! :lovestruc

Anyway, I KNOW the stroller will help at CBR!!! :thumbsup2 I've had sooo many people tell me that! Its just such a huge resort. My little one loves to walk & has been doing better holding my hand recently, but he also gets tired & actually loves to be in his stroller. I put it in our shed & he keeps running to the shed, opening the door, and pushes his stroller down the ramp & climbs in it. Then he says "ma-ma, ma-ma" and points towards the yard (he wants pushed!) He does this almost every night, so if we continue with this pattern, we should have no problem at all getting him to ride in the stroller! Yippee! :)

I did notice the "Family line" at MCO last trip. I'm not 100% sure about our airport, its kinda on the smaller side, but last trip it looked like about a million people waiting in the security lines...but I ended up being amazed at how quickly everyone got through. I noticed many people with tons of "extras" like car seats, strollers, etc. and they all seemed to move quickly through the line. If there was ever a problem, the security guys/gals moved the people over to the side so they were out of everyone's way while they checked their items. So hopefully the process is still fairly quick this trip!

I definitely will go shopping if he falls asleep at the parks! He's just starting that "I want everything I see" phase so I'm a little worried about it. Although he is very good about it if I tell him "no" he can't buy something. He also is very content if you give him something small, like a 50 cent lollipop, to hold in the buggy/stroller at the store/mall. So I'm thinking I might not have to worry as much as I think! lol :thumbsup2

We aren't planning on taking a car seat. I know this probably sounds a little out there, but I figure if we crash on the plane a carseat isn't going to help. (I am TERRIFIED of flying, but its exciting & terrifying all at once!) I know that sounds a little bizarre & maybe I'm nuts for the way I think, but we are using Disney transportation (bus/monorail/boat) the entire trip so the car seat would be used on the plane & then would just sit in our resort room for the rest of the trip. I figured it was more of a pain than anything. I'm not sure what he'll do, but I think he will be ok just sitting in the seat with a regular seatbelt. I also looked on an airline website (think it was AA) and they have a special seatbelt for toddlers/children. I was considering getting it but I think it was like $75 and I'm not sure how much use we'd actually get out of it. If we were frequent flyers, I would definitely invest in it!

We were considering getting a rental car & there's an option where you can get a toddler or infant carseat included. I can't remember if they add extra fees or not. I'm sure you already know about that, but I figured I'd mention it in case others don't know. :)

Last year I had the Heys travel mate and it held all my stuff but like I said way too many pockets.

I just bought a tote the other day for Disney. I know most people don't use a tote bag but I love those kinds of bags and I hate having a bag across my chest so I think this on will work better. Plus my mom will now be with us so she can carry it when I need to do something

I will have to look up the Heys travel mate! :) I know what you mean about pockets. I love them but sometimes its hard to remember where you put everything! lol

I love totes as well! My only concern with my Vera is that I'm constantly throwing around my bag & it only has a small toggle closure at the top. I think I might just organize my bag with small make-up bags so I don't lose small items. That would be best too because I plan to take some snacks for my son & I don't want food all over my bag & other stuff in my bag (like my son's extra change of clothes).

Ooooh...I am jealous! I wish my mom was going with us! I used to give her all my extra stuff to throw in her huge camera bag! lol She was always more than happy to lug around my souvenirs too...although I love how Disney will ship them back to your resort giftshop now! I did that last trip & was amazed! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I rented a wagon the last time we went, and it helped from getting to one section to the other. I want to see if I can get a wagon used at a yard sale, since they charge $7 to rent one at our zoo, and I think that's a bit much. It was nice to have something other than the stroller though, and he enjoyed being able to eat his corn dog on the go!

I know what you mean...my zoo charges $6 or $8 so its about the same as yours. Its sad, we were just there last week & I can't remember how much I paid. And I was the one who rented it because my son wouldn't get out of the wagon so my husband had to stay outside with him while I paid to rent it! My memory is really going! :lmao:

I was very, very lucky to have my parents buy my son one of those Little Tikes wagons last year for Christmas. I think I was more thrilled than my son...at the time he just wanted to play inside the huge box! lol Its very nice, it has the little door that opens/closes, 2 drink holders for the kids, and one of the seats opens for storage. I walk up & down our street with it in the summer/spring with my son & he loves it!

We also took it to the fair last year & it was very nice to have! Its funny you mention corn dogs! My son got one last year at the fair & it was completely covered in ketchup...I mean, I've never seen so much ketchup before in my life! lol We were very glad that we had the wagon so he could sit & eat! Its unbelievable how hard it is to find seating at the fair! I have to find a pic of that & post it so you can see it...it was too cute! Its my husband's favorite picture from last summer! :goodvibes

I posted pics of my new bag on my PTR. It zippers closed so I dont have to worry and it has a large zipper section inside as well for other important stuff

I got sooooo far behind here, but I think I'm pretty well caught up :thumbsup2

You got some great pictures at the zoo, and I love your bag - looks like it holds a ton!

The first time I flew with DS, we did take his carseat. It was me, my dad and my sister though (plenty of people to help me haul stuff), and we were renting a car. The second time we flew it was just me and DS and we were going on a cruise, so I knew we wouldn't need it there, and the thought of hauling a car seat, stroller, child, and luggage into the airport alone gave me panic attacks. I was worried about my ability to keep him still on the plane, but the seatbelt worked just fine, and no one gave me dirty looks like I thought they would :rotfl: Since we are not renting a car for either of our upcoming trips, we won't be taking one either. They are hard enough to buckle into a car, fitting it into those tiny seats are crazy difficult!

That's ok! I wasn't posting updates for awhile there & then all of a sudden, I posted a whole bunch within one week! :rotfl:

Glad you got caught up! We did have a great time at the zoo & even though I had some shoulder pain afterwards, I still loved the Baggallini! I still can't get over the fact that last trip, I just shoved a bunch of stuff in my pockets & didn't take a bag! :confused3

Thats great that you had other people with you to help out. It is definitely a struggle carrying sooo much baby gear through the airport! Airports stress me out to begin with! I am actually relieved to be paying for a seat for our son this year...that means we won't have a stranger in our row of people. Its bittersweet for me though...last trip, my husband & son slept, so I had very nice conversations with the ladies who sat beside me on the plane there & back! You meet the nicest people when travelling! :goodvibes My husband freaks out waaay more than I do on the flight, so he doesn't talk the entire trip. But although I will miss the company on the flight, I am definitely happy to have the extra room. Since the airlines we use have 3 seats across, we will have a whole row to ourselves. That will definitely be nice! I also plan on buying our son a portable DVD player for Christmas & giving it to him early. I love watching Disney movies, too, so that should keep us both occupied while my husband sleeps!

I know what you mean about the tiny amount of space on the plane. I can't imagine fitting my car seat on one of their seats! My husband is a fairly large guy, so fitting the car seat right beside him would be a challenge. I was amazed the first time I flew...this might sound crazy, but whenever you watch tv, the amount of room they have on planes is alot more than we have on real-life planes! (I know...obvious, huh?) LOL Although I've never flown first class or on a private plane so I guess thats why I notice the difference!

Sorry for the delay in responding back--life has gotten in the way.

Happy Mother's Day late. I hope you had a great day celebrating. Your little boy is such a cutie!!

Great pictures from the zoo. I took pictures of our dinner the other night out--DH just laughed. :upsidedow The beaver shot is fantastic!! I have a canon powershot camera too, although an older model. I loved it but since we have had it now for four years, it is a little slow now. That is why I upgrade finally. They do take great pictures!! :goodvibes:

I love the Dooney bags too, especially a few of the new designs that came out. I am going to look at them when we get down there. I am eying a wristlet over a larger size because I think I would use it more. We will have to see--it all depends on what is happening in September when we go.

I just read your whole trip report! Thank you so much for all the work you put into the pictures and things. This is my families first trip to WDW!!!! :cool1: We are so excited. We will be going Nov 30-Dec9. Can't wait. I know you are from near Pittsburgh. We live just outside PSU country! LOL

Not a problem! Sometimes I don't log onto DIS for weeks so I completely understand! Life does get in the way...LOL :)

I love Canon's!!! As I said, I think I've owned every other brand, but now I think I will always stick with Canon.

Good luck finding a Dooney you like in September! I am really hoping they are still there in December. I'm glad they have different designs & sizes so that we can all find something that works best for us! :goodvibes

Wow, you read the entire thing!!! LOL

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on here. If I don't know the answer, someone else can respond! DIS is an excellent way to get information! After I found this site, I just felt like we did nothing on last year's trip! Its funny too because at the time, I thought we fit so much into a short time frame.

Where are you staying on your trip? Are you booking ADR's?

PSU...don't worry I won't hold it against you because I don't really get involved in the college rivalries! LOL :rotfl:

Are you going to MVMCP? I really want to get tickets, but we'll probably have to change our trip dates so I have to wait until the last minute. Hopefully the tickets don't sell out.

Please ask if you have any questions!

I will be sticking with Canon's too. I actually have a pocket size Nikon too. I think I am going to teach DD to use it for our trip. Either she or DH would use it probably while we are at Disney.

It is not the end of the world if I cannot get a Dooney...I hope they will be there in September and December for us! I would love to see one in person as I don't want to buy one without seeing it first. Which one are you looking at getting?

Yeah, i have seen that seatbelt/harness as well, but don't think we will invest it in. we simply aren't travelling enough with him to make it worth it. plus, like you, if anything were to happen, like a crash, i don't know that a car seat helps much. although that lone survivor of that recent crash was a 10year old boy still strapped into his seat. crazy. a miracle really.

i am so sorry you are scared of flying, lots of folks are. do you take anything to help you relax? i used to travel so much for business, that the airports were like a second home after a while. now i rarely travel for business- maybe 3-4 times a year.

yes, we are going to look into renting a car seat with our car rental, not sure how much it is, but i think after last year, we are just going to pay it. i don't want to lug that stupid seat around again!!!:rotfl:

sounds like your little one is going to do just great in the stroller at the world. they all get so worn out, they almost welcome it! heck, i want to ride in one!!! :thumbsup2:lmao:

i don't blame you- it is hard enough managing the toddler alone, but add in a stroller, diaper bags, your bag etc. and there is no way you could manage a car seat too! luckily the only time i travelled alone with my son, he was 4 months old and in the baby carrier. i had planned to hold him if necessary, but there were extra seats so i took his carrier on and left him in it.

I will be sticking with Canon's too. I actually have a pocket size Nikon too. I think I am going to teach DD to use it for our trip. Either she or DH would use it probably while we are at Disney.

That's a great idea! I wish I could get my husband to use my Nikon while I was using my Canon! For some reason, he's afraid to touch my cameras! :rotfl: (Its ok though because while I'm taking pics, he usually will watch our son!)

I know what you mean about the Dooney. I keep going back & forth a million times (as you can probably tell from reading my PTR! lol) In a way, I really, really want one. And in another way, if its there, its there...if not, no biggie!

After investing a small amount of $$ into a Vera & buying it online, I have learned the value of buying a purse ONLY after seeing it in person! When I got the Vera in the mail, it wasn't shaped as I thought it would be. The photo online made it look longer, but its actually more of a square than a rectangle if that makes sense. (Its ok though.) I would hate to invest that much into a Dooney & not see it first...so I completely agree with you there!

I'm not 100% sure yet which one I want. I have narrowed it to 2...either the Wonder Tote or the medium Sketch Tote. I have seen pics of both on DIS & look at them on Disneyshopping & ebay, but still can't decide. I like the shape of both. I definitely need a larger purse & I think this size will be good for me, but I'd like to see it in person & put it on my shoulder before deciding 100%.

When I first saw them, I was in :lovestruc with the Wonder tote!!! But then after looking at people's trip reports on DIS & seeing the Sketch tote, I like it too. I'm just not sure I like the straps on the sketch tote as well (I didn't buy a Jessica Simpson carry-on bag because it had straps like that). I also think that I still like the Wonder print better & it was my first instinct (don't they always say to go with your 1st instinct? ;) ) I guess I will decide for sure in December & hopefully they will still have them!

Please report back to me after your September trip & let me know if they are still in the shops & whether they have new designs! I know all the Dooney fans out there will hate me for saying this, but I'm kinda hoping the new designs are just a rumor. I'd rather them just keeping making more of the current prints! I've still never seen a Disney Dooney in any town near me, so I still feel its a unique design/purse to have!

What I'm thinking is...if I go in December & they don't have the Wonder totes, I will probably ask my husband if I can just buy a regular Dooney tote once we get back home as my gift -or- possibly just wait to see if they come out with new Disney designs at the beginning of 2011. :rolleyes1

Yes, I agree. If I flew all the time or we took multiple trips a year, I would definitely invest in one of those harnesses. Although when I looked at them, I didn't really see any big difference between that & the regular seatbelt. There were little strap covers on the child's shoulder, but you can purchase strap-covers (with cute kid designs!) for under $10 at Babies R Us & I think I also saw them at either Target or Walmart. I think there was one extra strap as well on the American Airlines harness, but like we both said, I don't know what that will do in a crash.

That really was a miracle that the 10 year old boy survived, still in his seat! :goodvibes

Yes, I really am scared to fly...I try my best to enjoy it, but it really scares me. People tell me horror stories that they've survived & it still scares me! Take-off is the worst...I think landing is simple, but no one else agrees with me! lol I suppose I'm scared to fly because my mom kinda had me brainwashed that it was the worst thing in the entire world! I never flew during my entire childhood...always 20+ hour drives to Florida! :sad2: Want to hear something funny? My parents started flying after I did...and because I told them it was much quicker/easier!!! LOL

I do not take anything to relax, mostly because I'm afraid it would make me feel sleepy on the plane. I'm one of those people who only takes Tylenol in extreme emergencies & I don't like how meds make me feel. I'm also the one who has to keep track of everything & keep everyone from being afraid on the plane! Ironic, huh? If you have any suggestions of something mild I could take or something else I could do to calm my nerves, I would appreciate it! A friend of mine suggested music & stuff but it doesn't help.

I don't blame you for not wanting to lug around the carseat! I would look around for car rentals. I had family who basically got their rental for free. They got a package deal through one of the discount sites & it would have cost the same price with or without the rental. Not sure how it worked since I usually book through Disney Destinations, but I could find out more info for you.

I know what you mean about the stroller...I wish someone could push me too! :lmao:

Hi Hope! Just thought I drop in and say hi!!! Did you see that Dec park hr came out?

Hey Reese! Thanks for letting me know! I actually just logged on to DIS about a half hour ago & was catching up on Toni's report! That's when I saw the December hours were out...

Things have been absolutely craaaazy around here in the past few weeks so somehow I didn't remember when exactly the December hours were coming out! :scared1:

For some strange reason, I thought they weren't out until June 1st, so I'm very excited they are out today! I'll be spending the rest of the evening trying to come up with some alternate plans. I figure I'll make plans for 3 different weeks & then one of them will have to work out, right? :)

Still no definite trip dates...:sad2:

My son's 2nd birthday party was this past weekend so I was busy with the final details all last week. This week (so far) I have no plans, so I'll be spending it planning the trip! :cool1:

How are your plans going? I seriously need to catch up on my trip reports tonight! I had planned to do it Sunday night, but the season finales of Desperate Housewives & Brothers/Sisters were on! Couldn't miss those! lol

No problem Hope! things are good with me... Just been super busy. Devon's communion party went great! And this past weekend we were in state college for my cousins wedding, which Devon was in. So needless to say I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Since I don't have an update, I thought I would just list more questions & see what replies I will get! :goodvibes

(I'm trying to work on my ADR's but just haven't had enough time to sit down & work on them...:sad2:)

1) Anyone have any suggestions for eating at Downtown Disney? We are definitely eating at EoS but I'm still trying to decide between T-Rex, Fulton's, Planet Hollywood, or somewhere else. Suggestions are appreciated! (if you have food pics, I'd love to see them too!)

2) Suggestions on where to buy Vinylmations (who has the biggest selection or do all the shops have the same amount?). I saw a store on someone's trip report this morning with hundreds & hundreds of them for sale, but my computer shut-down & I have no idea what I was reading!

3) Which resorts have the best Christmas decor?

4) How do you find out how to get from your resort to other resorts? And how much time it will take? I found a website that showed this, but can't find it now (I have about 500 Disney websites saved & don't feel like searching thru all of them...lol)

5) What exactly do you do with your stroller at the airport? Take it with you until you board & then hand it off to someone? (Sorry, this process really has me confused!)

6) Any pics you have of CBR are appreciated! You can PM them to me if you don't want to post them on here. :goodvibes

7) MVMCP...still debating...should we go or not? Anyone know which dates sell out?

8) What about Fantasmic? I've never been... Should I plan our park day for an evening when they have it or try to avoid the park due to excess crowds?

9) How do you dress in December? I've heard its all over the place, so any advice is appreciated!

10) Probably the BEST question...Please tell me some ideas for Christmas gifts! I'd like to do a little Christmas shopping while on vacation. To give you an idea, most gifts are for boys, some under age 3, 1 infant girl, and 1 teenage boy. I'd also like to get a nice gift for my dog sitter.

I know I have more questions, so next time I have nothing to write in an update, I'll ask more ???? :rotfl:

Thanks guys for all of the help! I seriously couldn't plan this trip without all of you!!! :grouphug:

5) What exactly do you do with your stroller at the airport? Take it with you until you board & then hand it off to someone? (Sorry, this process really has me confused!)You push your child in it till you get to the door of the plane , where you will fold it down and a baggage handler will take it and put it in the belly of the plane. When you are getting off the plane it should be waiting there for you. They pull them out usually before they open the doors to get off...If not U may wait a minute, no biggie. This is very convienant especially since pushing your son to baggage is easier then carrying!

7) MVMCP...still debating...should we go or not? Anyone know which dates sell out?
No doubt I recommend this. It's less busy cause of tickets sold and you walk on rides after 7pm. Wonderful fun! Go on the 5th...we are....:)
9) How do you dress in December? I've heard its all over the place, so any advice is appreciated!I wear shorts but come prepared with some jeans and sweatshirts...not one for everyday but a few in case.
