I was thinking that perhaps a stay at HH in November would be a nice break but I don't want to use my points as I have other things in mind. That being said, I was considering a cash reservation. Is there anything I might miss by being a cash guest vs. being a DVC guest? Activities that might not be available, etc.? I haven't been to HH yet but will be there (on points) in June.
Thanks!
Denise

You won't miss a thing...but you will have those pesky housekeepers bothering you daily with clean towels and sheets!

Cash guests are treated the same as DVC guests- all programs are offered to all guests.

Enjoy!

Maybe a hearty "Welcome Home" from the CMs ? :D :D :D

Nope - you won't even miss the "Welcome Home"! My DH and I just spent this past weekend at HH on cash (we own there, but sold back our '01 points for the MB discount and decided to use cash). I mentioned that we were members and got a nice welcome home at check-in. I took our member cards, but the weather was quite cool & rainy on Sat so we didn't end up doing any member activities like bike riding, kayaking, etc. Brrrr... I swear it felt colder than Minnesota with the dampness. We still managed to have a great time exploring Hilton Head island and we loved the resort. This was our first visit after buying HH points sight unseen.

Oh yeah, we also went to the Member Preview Center on Sunday when we were leaving and added on 50 more points before they sell out! :D The Preview Center will be closing on March 7th and the person who helped us is moving back to Orlando... she said the sales center will stay in Boardwalk, even for BCV. Probably old news, but just thought I'd share.

I do have one question - is Shadow real??? :D

When we stayed at HH before we joined, the only thing we missed was the member discount on activities. We didn't even get daily housekeeping. Of course as long as you have your member cards with you, you should still get the member discounts.

Wisegirl - we are new owners at Hilton Head too. We purchased in December. I loved the Preview Center and hate to see it close. We signed our papers at the Preview Center so I guess it will always have a special place in my heart:D . Anyway, just wanted to say welcome home neighbor and isn't HH great?

About Shadow, I've heard that from time to time Shadow makes an appearance but I don't think he is a permanent fixture at the resort. At least we didn't see him during our stay in December.

Most definitely! Shadow even "hosts" his own program each week- "Shadow Tales", where he is escorted through the marsh to the community Hall area by a CM- often B.Lou Crabbe, who shares stories about Shadow's adventures on Longview Island- the island the resort sits on.

Shadow proves to be an elusive find during other times, but during this program he is very accessible and is quite happy to pose for photos and well intentioned hugs!

Shadow is a beautiful Golden Retriever and is a very gentle host!

Enjoy!

Our 4 year old (he was 3 when we were there last May) just calls HH "Shadow's Home". He is always asking when we are we going to "Shadow's House" and luckily for him and us, we are headed back down on May 12th. The whole Shadow storyline is great for little and big kids. Our 2 little ones loved getting their picture taken with "Shadow" --- a very sweet and gentle doggie with the little ones.

It's great to know Shadow makes appearances now and again. I love his dog house at the main lodge building and now I know to look for him on our next visit!
