What makes it special other than it being DVC members only?

Is it cheaper?

Have they announced a 2014 one?

Another recent query.

They are not less expensive, they cost more. There are usually special lecturers, I understand Stacia Martin will be on the upcoming MC. She was on the Magic EBTA, I mentioned I had really enjoyed her talk and demos on the January MC & she said she would be on the September MC.

We had excellent Disney Broadway singers! I personally have enjoyed 2 MC's and probably will go on another one if it fits our schedule.

They are too short!

From what I heard they give you a lot of gifts , and they usually have special guest like movies creators and stuff .

I would love to go on a MC sometime. It sound like it would be a fun experience with like minded folks. :)

So it costs more, and you get some gifts, and a special guest or two?

I was looking to be sold on the idea, not unsold!

On our EBTA this May, one of the 4 Broadway singers who was on the MC was on board and was the performer one night. She was good, but on the MC, there were 4 Broadway stars, and the performance was spectacular! Still, while on the MC, I was on my way to the show, and passed a person going to dinner, so she had already seen the show. I asked her what she thought about it. She thought it was "OK if you like Broadway." Well, I do like Broadway!

So, I think you need to decide if you want to give it a try for yourself. I know I don't want to "sell" it!

DVC produced a video earlier this year on the Member Cruise Experience...

This might give you an idea of what it is like.

We do one every three or four years. Although they are expensive, They are fun. You can hear our opinions on the video as we got to participate. We will usually pay with points for one person and cash for the other, so that it does not wipe out a huge chunk of our points. Also the $95 fee is waived for these cruises and standard gratuities are included so when you take those two expenses into account, the price is not as bad.

The most important thing on these cruises is to bring at least one large suitcase extra. I cannot stress this enough, you will get enough gifts to easily fill a large bag.

I hadn't seen that before! How nice that you are on it.:goodvibes

For those who aren't aware, the Member Cruise is actually a "Direct Member" Cruise. If you don't own at least one contract purchased directly from Disney, you cannot sign up for a Member Cruise even if you intend to pay cash and not pay with points.

We were thinking about doing this cruise with my parents, brothers family and sisters family next year. We have bought directly and resale from Disney. My parents bought two resale contracts years ago and put my brothers and sisters name on each contract along with theirs. So, my parents could not book a DVC Member cruise since they bought resale about 7-8 years ago? How many rooms could I book? I have 6 in my immediate family if that makes a difference. Thanks!

If your parents bought resale 7-8 years ago, they can book a MC. The restriction is more recent than that.

Thanks for clarifying this!

I should have said: If you own only resale contracts, all of which were purchased after March 2011 (I think the cutoff date is March 20, 2011), you cannot book the Member Cruise.

We did the Member Cruise :boat: back in 2008 for our 20th Anniversary. We had a great time & would have done it this year for 25th, but decided to do the NYE cruise on the Dream instead. ::yes::

Thanks for anticipating my question. Now I have another one. We have our points through a resale contract. If I buy a small package say like 25 or 50 points direct, would that make us eligible for a member cruise? We will be doing our first cruise in May and if its something we like, I would like to do a member cruise. Dad wants to buy Poly DVC points when they become available and I would like to have some GF points.

Yes, but you would not be able to use your resale points to pay for the cruise.
