Member Cruise Questions

I will be on the telephone at 8am on June 22 trying to book the members cruise to Alaska, I successfully booked the members cruise in 2011, or 2012 on the dream, took many hours to do it, but I persevered, and got a deluxe family stateroom with veranda. Great room, and I had enough points for it, and that was the only category left at that time in the afternoon. So, I will camp out with two or maybe three telephones, and hope to get a reservation for this cruise.

Hopefully there will be different CMs booking each cruise, maybe a 1 or 2 option.

I wonder if anyone will be booking both cruises! We will be doing the 4 nighter.

If you use cash to pay for the MC what is the cancelation policy?

For the 4-Night Bahamian Member Cruise:

The Alaskan Member Cruise will have a different cancellation policy since it sails from a non-US port.

Where can you find out how much it would be for the member cruise? DH and I were consider going on a cruise next year, possibly a 7 night, but the member cruise sounds like a good idea. TIA.

Another question -- can we book a second room for non-member guests (parents) if they are on the same ressie as us?

It's not specifically noted on the information for the 2015 MCs, but in prior years members could also book an additional stateroom for non-members.

You might want to contact MS to see if you can book more than 1 stateroom.

Wanna bet MS has no idea. ;)

We would love to go on the 4 night cruise but I'm disappointed that it has to be paid in full up front.

I have wanted to do a MC for years. However the dates have never quite worked out with our schedule, however the ones for 2015 look like they might actually work. What I wanted to find out is if anybody would be willing or could share what items they received during the cruise, i.e. the goodies? Just trying to figure out if the extra cost of the cruise is actually worth it.
Thanks.

My issue is that DVC doesn't really share any info other than the sail and booking date. They hint at gifts and other activities but don't give specifics. If it was a great value and the gifts were special and the entertainment fabulous you would think that they would be playing it up and the Guides telling every sales prospect how they are missing out because they aren't a member.

We've never done any sort of Disney cruise and frankly the Caribbean cruises are not of interest. The Alaska member cruise has us very interested. People we've met at Disney events (once at a cheese seminar at F&W and most recently at Summerhouse/Golden Oaks) RAVE about how great Disney cruises are.

Three Questions:

1) I know "worth" is a relative term but we would pay cash for a member cruise. Are the extras on a member cruise worth it vs a regular cruise?

2) If we were sailing on a regular cruise, we would absolutely get concierge level but I notice on the DVC price PDF that the "1 bedroom stateroom with verandah" does not explicitly state "concierge." Are the concierge levels available on a member cruise?

3) How quickly do the 1 bedrooms go? For a 7 day cruise, we would like the extra room to spread out. We'll call at 8 am EST on the dot if we decide to do this but do rooms sell out within 5 minutes? Or what's the relative time frame?

Many thanks in advance!!

1. Disney cruises in general cost more than other cruise lines, and there are people debating all of the time as to whether DCL cruises themselves are worth it. I am 1 cruise away from being Platinum on DCL, I especially love the longer DCL cruises. I have been on 2 MCs and will be on the one in August this year because I think the experiences have been worth it. It seems like other guests are friendlier on the Member Cruises, and I enjoy meeting people. The Broadway caliber entertainment made the 2013 cruise in January totally worth it for me. There were 4 stars of Disney's Broadway shows who put on a magical display of their singing talents! I loved it! I am downsizing my possessions and very few "gifts" I have received on Member Cruises have made the "cut." I have given away 95% of the "gifts" I have been given on the MCs. I do collect some Disney Pins and Prints, and those I am keeping. The pins from the '05 Member Cruise are especially nice.

2. I think that the 1 bedrooms on the Wonder ARE concierge level. Ask on the Disney Cruise Line forum to be sure.

3. I think that the higher cost cabins do not sell out that quickly, because I think I have read that they were still available after I booked my cabin for this year's cruise. I got "in" to book a little after 11 that day.

If we were not booked on DCL's East Bound trans Atlantic cruise next May, I would be trying to book the Alaska MC. I have been to Alaska, been to those ports and places, but I would go because I think DVC would make it extra nice.

Best wishes to you and to all who are trying to decide if it is "worth" it!

The single letter stateroom categories (V & T) are concierge level.

This is good to hear - the swag seems like a fun bonus but I think for us it is the extra entertainment AND the other people. We love meeting other DVC members - (off topic) but we did a TiW dinner event at Summerhouse at Golden Oaks and made some great new DVC friends.

Per DCL, they are concierge but the PDF confused me because the word concierge was not explicitly in the description. I was unsure if they took away the concierge piece/benefits (priority boarding, bags, pre trip planing etc) for member cruises or if it was just an omission within the PDF description.

Thanks...I assumed that. We'll be visiting/staying with the inlaws on 6/22 and I'm not sure that both me AND my husband can do the repeat dial, stay on hold thing while we're visiting his parents. But it will be CST not PST so slightly less early - I guess that's a bonus. :rolleyes1

All cruises through MS must be pain up front whether by cash or points.

I've done the Member Cruises back in '05 & '06 and they were a blast! Haven't been able to go in recent years because it always was during school. But, this time, Alaska is happening just after we get out of school.

One question - does anyone know if I can book my DH and I, and then add my daughters in a couple of months? I know that you used to be able to do that (based on availability of child ratios in the clubs, but my girls are older now, so I don't know that it'll be as big of a deal).

It would just be easier to swing the extra cash for right now. Obviously, I'd need to make sure to tell the rep that I need to get a cabin that sleeps 4.
