Mel's Unflashy June 2008 TR: Funnel cakes have fewer calories in FL. Updated 12/2!!

Whoa! What’s this? A mini-trippie inside a big trippie! This teeny, tiny trippie is dedicated to Jodi. That’s because sweet little Jodi went to Fockerfest all flat and then when I came home she never harassed me even ONCE about whether I took her picture out. She was so nice about it.
Way TOO nice.

So, here’s to you, Jodi! Thank you for being a friend (NOGoldenGirls) and thanks for coming along to Fockerfest.

Day One: Fay is in Florida and she’s tearin’ it up!!

Trusting my memory at this late date is a bit, uh, chancy. The handy dandy schedule says:
Friday, August 22nd: emh pm epcot (open 9-10/11-12)
* Fly into MCO at 10:40 am. ME to Pop Century Resort.
* Afternoon: Stalk Li, Z, Lessa and Mo at MK (without Bob) from 1-3pm
* Lapu’s at Tambu lounge at 7:30 pm

What that all means is that we arrive in Orlando at 10:40 am, we get the Magical Express Bus to Pop and then I stalk Li, Z, Lessa and Mo at MK without Bob from 1-3 pm. Oh and apparently there are PM EMH hours at Epcot that day.

But, what really happened was that we arrived, got on the bus safely and made it to Pop about noon. Bob was THRILLED with ME! (Not me, M.E. He’s rarely thrilled with me....lol) The convenience, the speed, the efficiency! Again, M.E. not me....

We checked in without too much trouble. The room wasn’t ready yet so we went off exploring. We walked through the store/cafeteria on our way out the back to the pool. The Hippy Dippy Pool:
IMG00005.jpg

I think I’ve mentioned my unhealthy attachment to the burgers at Cosmic Rays? Well, at the cafeteria they have a close replica. The toppings aren’t as good, but it’s close. :yay: Once we filled up, I told Bob I was blowing him off for some MK! Bob wanted to catch some pool time (in a Tropical Storm..yep.) And I wanted to head out to MK to find some Fockers. So, we split up with the understanding that we’d meet again at about 4 pm and hopefully our room would be ready! We’ve got big plans tonight! Lapus with the Fockers! :woohoo:

The bus for MK came very quickly. I was stunned. IMHO, the value’s busses are WAY better than the more pricey resorts.

I was so shocked that I could get right up front for this show that I forgot I don‘t care for it.
101_0052.jpg

Then I took a spin on the TTA. Would you look at the sky??? Holy Cow.
Bob’s texting me that he’s in a HURRICANE at the pool. Poor Bob. :sad2:

101_0059.jpg

101_0057.jpg

Weird bands of rain would swirl in, downpour and then swirl out. That’s how the whole long weekend went. While I was riding the TTA, I saw Lessa and her brothers. I didn’t want to yell, so I just waved and she kept walking. Probably wondering why some stranger was waving to her....

I went back to Pop at the appointed time to find Bob completely soaked, including his shoes. He had been sitting at the pool waiting for the clouds to break a bit so he could catch some rays. When all of a sudden the sky just opened up. Poured down more rain than he had ever seen! By the time he grabbed his backpack and shoes, everything was soaked! Unfortunately for Bob, he didn’t have a room yet, so he had to just sit around all cold and wet. No towels at the pool. Yeah, it’s a “value.”

So, our room was ready finally, which was nice. Poor soaked Bob and I slogged over to it.
Our building in the 80’s...
IMG00006.jpg

The bags were dropped off in our room which was basic but fit the bill. A big king sized bed, just like at home. Oh, hello, who are you?
IMG00007.jpg

I noticed that the room was clean and had what it needed, but that it was missing the extras that you get at the Moderates. (pictures on the walls?) Oh well, it wasn’t like I was going to hang out there too much! Showers all around and dressed up nice!

The plan was to take the bus to MK, then monorail around to the Poly. We had a bit of extra time so we popped in to the Contemporary for a look-see.
101_0062.jpg

They’re making progress....
IMG00010.jpg

Ta-Da!!
IMG00011.jpg

We hopped back on the monorail for our trip over to the Poly. I was a little nervous about meeting the girls for the first time! Bob and I made our way over to the Tambu Lounge area. I thought I saw some people sitting on the chairs near the music but I wasn’t sure. Then I heard someone say, “MEL!!” It was Kat, Z, and Yani! Oh, and Kate was there too!
Eventually, everyone showed up. Jo and her daughter Jess, V and Leo, T and her whole family and LL and Tony! Bob and Tony hit it off immediately!

There was music and dancing. Sadly, this guy was the dancer. He was REALLY into it though!
101_0077.jpg

We bought ALL the pineapples. It was very funny when the CM kept bringing our drinks out and saying, “Sorry, we’re out of pineapples....” LOL. Does Jodi have TWO pineapples???? Bad Jodi!
101_0064.jpg

See Jodi! You were really there!!!!

We said goodnight to everyone and we chatted all the way back to the hotel about how they didn’t seem like strangers at ALL! Bob was won over almost instantly by Yani. She charmed him with her wily Cuban ways....
Kat and Z will forgive me for posting this odd, blurry photo of them I hope. I am doing it because though it is blurry, it sums up our evening that night! We all laughed SO hard. It was like we’d always known each other!
101_0063.jpg

We made it back to Pop to crash for our next day. It rained alot that night I remember waking up to it in the morning. Sadly, that’s how EVERY morning was weather-wise. However, neither of us cared because we were having too much fun!

Tune in for day two tomorrow! Bob’s going Segwaying again!

And I'm first to reply to your post too!!!!!

Okay, now I'm back to reply as well! Thanks for taking me along, Mel. It sure looks like I enjoyed myself! And I drank two pineapples???? I'm sure you had to carry me back to the room. Did you put me by the toliet, because I'm sure I had to visit it after that much alcohol!

I'm still sorry I missed it. Maybe next time.... in Vegas, right??

Sad, sad, sad, that I didn't ditch my family to join you. But it looks like fun!

Poor NotBob.

Day Two: Ah, the heck with it. Let's have Rum and Coke

The day dawned gray and misty! They can’t keep us down though! Bob has to be at Fort Wilderness Campground for his Wilderness Segway! I have graciously agreed to accompany him as far as the boat dock at MK. We are parting there and I will be going on to Epcot.
This is what my handy dandy schedule says for today:
Saturday, August 23rd: emh am DHS (open 8am-9pm)
* 11:30 am Bob does Segway at Fort Wilderness (2 hrs)
Arrive by 11:15 am. Me to Epcot
* Evening: Meet Fockers at US Pavillion at 4 pm
Epcot Germany-Biergarten Meet at 5pm.
After: drinks? Fireworks?

We decide to brave the HUGE crowds in the food court for breakfast. Wow. The sheer volume of people they can feed in there is staggering. Not to mention just the VOLUME of the people! Loud. Very Loud. Bob and I both manage a breakfast platter and coffee. Then we hop the bus to MK. It’s shaping up to be a warm day. I am applying sunblock as we travel on the bus.
When we arrived at the bus depot near MK, we walked together down to where he needed to catch the launch to FWC. I grabbed the big boat over to the TTC. We waved at each other as we sailed across. So romantic. He kept texting me with messages like, “I can see you.” “Your hair looks pretty.” Awwww.
101_0083.jpg

Bye for now Bob!

This is what Bob did while he was away from me.
IMG00015.jpg

He rode a Segway all over FWC and to WL. He loved this! The Segway had off road tires, which was different from his Segway in Epcot.
IMG00018.jpg

They saw:
A cow with a Mickey head:
IMG00020.jpg

An armadillo:
IMG00016.jpg

A horse named Dave:
IMG00021.jpg

And a hidden Mickey on the side of WL that I can‘t see:

One more photo of cute Bob on his Segway!
IMG00019.jpg

Bob has lots of stories and info about this Segway Tour. If you’re bored, feel free to PM him at BobfromBoston. I will let him answer your questions!
He sailed back across the lake to the bus and saw SD’s friends.
IMG00025.jpg

In the meantime, I was over at Epcot. I made my way into the park and wandered over to get FPs for Soarin. I was hoping we could ride later on. Unfortunately, though I had Bob’s AP, it wouldn’t let me get him a FP because he hadn’t entered the park that day! Darn smart machines! The CM took pity on me though and gave me a “free one.” Whoo Hoo!

After I left here, I texted CE who was over on the other side of the lagoon. She and the boys were hungry so they were going to head over to Sunshine Seasons. I texted Janet, who was on her way by from Nemo and then I happened to spot Yani, Z and Kat! They sat and chatted with me outside Soarin’ while I waited to find CE and Janet. How could I miss them?! They’d be walking right by us! Well, Janet missed us entirely. CE texted to say sorry that the boys had wanted to eat at the Electric Umbrella.

I had a great talk with Kat, Yani and Z though! They are so much fun! They were pretty pooped out by then though. They were heading back to the resort for a swim. I said my goodbyes and went to ride the Nemo ride. Call me silly but I love this ride. I tried to take pics, without my flash of course, but they didn’t come out. Oh well! After that I made a return visit to The Land. I just love Living with the Land.

101_0105.jpg

I have a million more pictures in there, but I think that’s enough for now! Jodi was hungry. She was yelling to take her to lunch. So, I did. At my favorite place to eat at Epcot!
101_0103.jpg

We had soup. Yum! They make the most amazing soup at Sunshine Seasons!

All full of soupy goodness, I walked about a little and found myself in Norway. I’d been hearing about the schoolbread so I thought I’d bring some back to Pop for Bob and I to share. On the way to the bakery I saw people going into one of the buildings that I didn’t know was open. Inside was this guy!
101_0121.jpg

and some of his weapons....
101_0122.jpg

Very interesting!
I decided to try to catch Bob at the pool at Pop. I made my way to the monorail station and then did all the crazy finagling to get back to Pop. Mono, mono, bus....

Poor Bob was all ready to go to the pool and Wham! Another storm from Fay. Poor Bob. Day two and NO pool yet.
We had rum and cokes (he texted me on the bus to say “get cokes for the run and cokes“) and schoolbread and hung out in our room watching Stacy do her spiel....
(Did I mention that Bob brought a quart of Rum in his suitcase?) Oh, he did.
::yes::

Later we are meeting the Fockers, so I’ll stop for now. How are you liking the Mini-TR so far?

I'll forgive you just this once for the weird fuzzy, reddish faced picture! ;) Half the week was spent soggy so thats not half bad in the grand scheme of things!

It was so great to meet you guys that night! I knew we'd get along just fine- we are made from the same mold! And Bob charmed everyone that night- he's a champion networker!

I'm first! :yay:

I'm Mel's best reader!!!! :woohoo:

Actually, you're 3rd... go back a page! LOL :rotfl2:

Thanks Kat. We loved you guys too!
You look gorgeous, as always.

Sad, sad, sad, that I didn't ditch my family to join you. But it looks like fun!

Poor NotBob.

Poor NotBob. No sun for him!

Yeah, what's with all that family loyalty???? LOL.

YES, though I did my quotes backwards sort of, you are FIRST!

You did not barf. Though there was some inappropriate table dancing...

Oooh Vegas would be sooooooo fun. Bob and I LOVE Vegas. We try to go every year!

MEL:love:

Oooooooooo! I love soup! Thanks for the soup, Mel. I'm sure it tasted good after all that pineappley goodness the night before!

Very interesting!

So, why didn't you just take the bus from Epcot to POP?? :confused3

As I said before, that NotBob's a keeper, Mel!

The mini-tr is awesome, Mel. And I'm not just saying that because I have a leading role! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I definitely never saw you waving, I would have acknowledged you if I had! Since you saw us while you were on the TTA it must have been around the time that we were watching Dream Along With Mickey. I was fuming in anger at the time so you probably would have had to have been right in my face before I saw you. :rotfl:

It was partially that the line for the big golf ball was enormous, for no good reason. We thought we'd be in and out in 15 minutes, tops, and it took more like an hour, and we knew with early dinner, we needed to eat ASAP! But still, I'm sorry.

Later we are meeting the Fockers, so I’ll stop for now. How are you liking the Mini-TR so far?

Great job! :goodvibes
