As for it sounding "fishy" or fake, this story has been out there for days, and not a single denial from his camp, so......

Mel's father is known to be a whack job, too. He said something like he doesn't believe the Holocaust ever happened. Mel always backed his right to say it. Maybe he's becoming deranged like his father.

I feel sorry for Mel's 8 kids. If he was abusive all those years, his wife probably kept quiet for the kids' sake.

I think the tape recording may be illegal. If I remember correctly, if you are in CA you need to notify the other person that you are recording them. I used to work for a large broker/dealer and we had clients in CA. We taped calls in case of a trading error we could always go back to the tape. When this new CA law came out we had to work a way around it so that every incoming call wasn't delayed by a message. I think we satisfied it by notifying them by mail and having beeps during the call. I think that's what happened. It's been awhile though.

As for the content, if it's really him, not spliced and this is his true rage then he needs serious help and needs to stay away from his baby. (well that was a nice run on sentence )

Again, there's no denial of the tapes from Gibson's camp, so I don't get the fake speculations. If somehow the tapes were fake, there's no way that Mel would have let things go this far.

I have no love or respect for the girlfriend; but even if she grabbed the child in the middle of a fight (a pretty big IF), it doesn't explain of justify him hitting her while holding the baby ( or in any other circumstance). What a coward.

That's the way I feel. I don't know if he will be charged with anything because of the laws surrounding taping of private conversations, as well as the fact that now they are claiming the tape may have been sold to the media.

Beyond that, though, I think Mel has lost his mind. I'm not sure if he fits the profile of a habitual spousal abuser, but over the years he is definitely suffering from something that has turned him into a completely unrecognizable, blithering idiot!

Dementia, psychological disorder, drugs, alcohol, who knows? But something is definitely up. If he is charged with something, I'm sure the Hollywood backers will come to the rescue and he'll be treated for something, rather than go into prison.

He has had issues with alcohol in the past, wonder if he is back on the bottle?

She taped him and they just magically appeared all over the TV and internet and yet she denies having anything to do with it. We aren't idiots. She wanted these tapes out there because she wanted to damage Mel's reputation.

The reason these tapes came out is because Mel and Oksana were going through a custody battle for this child. Oksana wanted full custody of the child b/c she didn't trust Mel and wanted to have nothing to do with him. He offered her $20 million, she turned it down. The tapes were released (very smart) as a tool for her to get full custody. Ironically, she said she did not release the tapes.

Quite honestly, I don't know why people are going after Oksana. Mel has been a loose cannon for years. I truly believe Mel needs this egg on his face to recover for his own personal sake. I hope he recovers.

Now, all she has to do is get the very involved father out of the picture so she can raise the kid by herself, her way.

Yeah, I knew about the custody battle. I just mean that it's an amazing coincidence that they got leaked to the media when the judge has a gag order in place. Her camp was the only one who had access to the tapes. The cops didn't even have them. Yet we are all supposed to believe that she is innocent when it comes to them being leaked?

She wouldn't be the first or the last woman to grab a baby in the middle of an argument, it's pretty common actually. He claims she was shaking the baby and got hurt when he was trying to get the baby from her. True or not, flip it around, a man grabs a baby in the middle of a fight, the mother would do whatever she had to get the baby out of harms way. Doesn't sound so bad if a woman were to get physical in the name of her child does it?

Absolutely not justifying his actions but we weren't there and there are two sides to every story. He's one crayon shy of a box but she certainly seems intent on inciting him.

I personally said the tape sounded fishy something just not right about it. It doesn't mean he didn't say those things but I question the context and order of them. I did say it doesn't sound like the same guy and to me it doesn't.

As to his camp not denying it, doesn't mean they're validating it. Silence is golden and they very well could be waiting for her to twist herself up. As nasty as he sounds if she's been continually taping him without his knowledge and most likely doctoring those tapes it'll come back on her in the end. Why defend something you believe doesn't need defending?

There's more to his "camp" then his agency I'm sure. He, himself may not feel he has to justify it, who knows? My point was just because no one on his side is denying doesn't mean it went down the way she's saying. According to the news he and the agency mutually parted ways.

I definitely think Mel has issues...think back to the last scandal he had involving racial slurs. BUT when people are going through domestic issues, bad things get said, hurtful words are spoken, and most people are not recorded and then reported to the media! She waits until he's beligerant, invokes and arguement, records it, then sends it to the media to begin the slaughter. I have absolutely NO sympathy for her. She's getting what she bargained for. She broke up his marriage, had a kid with him, and now she's getting paid for being spiteful.
