Meijer grocers..anyone notice a lot of overcharging/incorrect pricing?

My problem with Meijer is in stock position, they never have ad items in stock. I have more rainchecks then actual food items in my pantry right now.

Mine too! Doesn't seem to matter when you go either! Whatever is on sale is never on the shelf.
I always make sure and do the U Scan so I am doing it myself and can watch prices. I usually end up distracted by something and can't watch the check out people to make sure there aren't mistakes!

wow, I shop at the Aurora rt 59 store...

Wow, I was going to respond to this and say that I used to shop at Meijer and stopped because the prices always scanned incorrectly. Every trip, I ended up at the customer service counter. It was frustrating and I just stopped bothering with it (and I'm not the type that typically goes through and notices these things - but it was so blatantly and consistently wrong). But it was at that same store - Rt 59. We moved away almost 4 years ago and haven't been back since, but that store had problems since the day they opened. I'd always blamed Meijer, but maybe it's just specifically that Meijer store.

I haven't had a single problem with Meijer ringing up stuff wrong since I started shoping there last fall. They are frequently out of stock, or barely have anything left (I've taken the last item off the shelf many times!) but what I do buy does ring up correctly.

Jewel, on the other hand, is terrible about prices. But if you catch it, you get the item free! I got a half galon of organic milk for free just two weeks ago.

Maybe it's the individual stores, and how good the management is.

I shop at the Meijer on Randall and Algonquin. They ALWAYS overcharge. It's gotten annoying. Used to love SuperTarget for their prices, but they never have what I want in stock, either.

BTW, have you done the SuperCouponing class that's going around from the girl from Huntley? I went to one and it was AMAZING! If you are diligent and serious about saving on your groceries...check her out:

That's the one I shop at and yes they are famous for over charging. They also leave signs up that have expired.

wow, I shop at the Aurora rt 59 store...maybe I should haul to Elgin...lol...well, maybe there's hope!

I go to the Meijer store in Bolingbrook right by 355 and they used to be horrible with wrong prices, but have gotten better in the past few months. Their biggest problem is being out of stock on sale items!!!

I kept my receipts for the last 5 months from there, I started to keep them when I noticed I was having to catch an error everytime I was checking out. I would put a * on the receipts that I caught errors on either during check out or after...82% were marked with a *! I have decided to give up on Meijer unless it is a really good deal, I am just having trouble supporting a retail establishment that is this problematic. I also totalled ( as best I could) items that I remembered being overcharged or double charged for...it was just under $85 total...maybe not much to some, but that's a weeks worth of food at our house. I sent a letter to corporate informing them of our stores location and my disappointment. Just wondering if we have a loser store or if anyone else has noticed this? I have to catch errors at other stores too, but Meijer has been in error way too often to not take notice of. I noticed pricing error when doing self check out too, so it is not a clerk I am blaming ( except for double charging, sliding an item more than once, when multiplying items hitting X7 when should be 6 etc) it is the company in general.

IF you live in Michigan they have the Bounty Law in which you get up to $5.00 if you have been overcharged. You pay for the item them take the receipt to the service desk and complain of the overcharge. I so miss this in Michigan as we do not have it here in Ky. I have been overcharged a couple of times at meijer but not that often. Tuesday I ended up finding teh Disney Mix Stix for $6 so bought them for my 6 year old and friend's 6 year old.

Yup, we live in Mich. and I can't tell you how many times I've taken advantage of the scanner law. You get 10 times the mis-marked price up to $5, which usually means you get the $5. I haven't had too many mis-marks with Meijer, but I haven't gone their much recently because their prices have gotten so high.

and I could've gone to WDW on my "bounty " collections through the years! WOW!

I am amazed...I know our Jewel used to do something similar eons ago, but once they were bought by Albertsons ( since sold, I think) all that stopped

The main thing with Meijer's that I have found is you MUST meet the requirements of the Sale. Their cash registers tally discounts at the end of the transaction. For example, if they have an item, buy 2 get 3 free. You must ring up all five items to get the discount. It appears to charge you for all five items as it scans them, but then it takes the discount at the end of the transaction.

All stores have issues with pricing, but usually if you point it out they will either verify it with someone checking the shelf or some will automatically ring the modified price without checking. In my area, the worst was K-Mart, at prices ringing up incorrectly, then it takes 30 minutes for them to fix the price, due to lack of employees. Maybe that's why the store was closed due to lack of customers.

My DH ususally does all the scanning and me the bagging so I'm not really sure how much we're REALLY paying attention. :headache:

I think next week I will take along my sharpie and write the price on the item when I put it in the cart. Should be interesting to see how accurate they really are.
