What did everyone think of this TV show? There is no way I could live with my parents/siblings or my husbands family. It seems to work for them so I guess more power to them. I did find it odd that the guy changed his name to Putman so all the grandkids would have the same last name.

I have never heard of this show, I had to google and find an article to understand what you were referring too. I'll admit, I may have to check this out.

My FIL lives with us, and it works well for us-- but this is a far cry from that . . . I can not imagine dating a person and finding out that the expectation is that we'd live with their parents forever. It is amazing to me that their children found spouses . . .

A guy changing his name is rare, but that isn't the oddest part to me. If you agree to this entire concept, the name is a trivial thing. I can't believe anyone agreed to the concept.

I only saw the first 5 minutes and then the PVR shut off. It was just on the tail end of another show.
Looked sorta of interesting so may look for it.
How did they end up all living together?

Funny enough only 9 states actually call it out specifically. All others usually have female pronouns when speaking about name change after wedding.

I find it kind of odd that adult kids just never moved out and that is how the ultimately got to the 25 under one roof. I like my independence far too much. I could see having independent homes on the same plot of land (pretty common where I grew up in Texas) but in the same home I'd get on someone's nerves and my brother's would get on mine pretty darn quickly.

I didn't see the show, so I'm talking out of my butt here, but:

In a general sense, I think society has, wrongly, decided that multi-generational housing is a bad thing. As recently as the 50's it wasn't uncommon for three or even four generations to live together in the same home. The benefits are legion: division of household chores, saving money on housing costs, readily-available child care (assuming the elders are capable and don't themselves have to work). I think, in this bad economy, it's time for housing arrangements like this to make a comeback. There's no shame in families living together!

How did they end up all living together?

I'm watching the first episode now, I'm not quite sure. a few of the comments have made it sound like it was a deliberate decision in adulthood, which makes me wonder if they all lived apart for a few years and then decided to come back together, or if they truly never left. Coming back together would strike me as less odd.

In a lot of ways, I can see the appeal -- but one house/one bank account takes it too far for me. I love the idea of a family compound with several families on the same large plot of land -- but I need my own bathroom, and frankly the freedom to decorate my own space . . .

I don't think I would like it. I like my space. And I like to be able to decide what I want to make for supper. And 2 bathrooms? Ugg. No way.

Wait on bank account?! Now that I could not do. Heck my fiance and I have even agreed to keep our separate accounts and a set amount will go to our joint account and anything over that goes to our individual account so we don't have to ask each other if we can buy small things like blue-rays and video games. The amount going to the house hold account will of course change over the years.

Okay, I just got to the point where they are building the new house. That helps, a lot. I still would prefer separate homes in a situation like this, but having your own wing is almost close enough.

I was going to start a thread about this. They kind of make me think the Duggers are a normal family!
I cannot imagine living in the that chaos every day. And having your family vote on whether or not you and your husband can move out of the house? Um, no thanks.

I saw two shows back in January when it started but my DVR hasn't taped anymore?? :confused3

I thought it just started last night?
There's only been one episode and it premiered on January 16th. I was hoping there would be more but I don't see any more on the TLC website.

I was hoping there would be more episodes....I could never live like that but I found it interesting!

There is only one episode. Funny, after it first aired you couldn't even find it on TLCs website, all info about it disappeared. This family lives on Sand Point in Caseville TWP MI which is where we have a cottage. I did a drive by of their home after I saw the show advertised. This show is dumb. The family does not grocery shop together, that is so stupid. They would never do their weekly shopping at the store in town, it is overpriced (I bring a lot of groceries up when we visit our cottage). Very staged. They may all live together, but what an odd choice. Very strange family dynamics. I am not sorry they seem to have dropped the show already.

Wonder why it showed up as two episodes on my DVR but you're right it was on the same day so who knows?? I wasn't real impressed by the show. Seemed rather staged.

Oh hell no.

I would run fast. I'm shocked they found spouses ok with the arrangement.

I watched it, enjoyed it. Up until the vote in the end, felt very "commune-ish" to me, I didn't like that at all. Otherwise, pretty entertaining, I'd watch if they had more. I could never live like that, but I liked it.

It premiered in Jan and seems like it was cancelled immediately, doesn't make sense they re-aired it again? maybe they are trying to give it a new life.
