Meet the Fockers! We're watching you...

1. Get your tea pot out of the cabinet or off the drying rack.
Note: a tea pot is not to be confused with a tea kettle. It is a regular pot that you only use for making tea.
2. Get out 4 tea bags, open the wrappers, and be certain not to tear off the paper tabs.
3. Twist them around each other a few times and clip to the pot handle using a clothes pin.
4. Fill pot 3/4 full, put on the stove, and turn burner to high.
5. Wait for tea to boil.
Note: Do NOT leave the stove when making tea. Tell Lois or Eula Mae that you will call them back after you make your tea.
6. While you are waiting for your tea to boil, rinse out your pitcher. NEVER let your pitcher soak in soapy water. Soap flavored tea anyone?
7. Put two cups of sugar in your pitcher.
8. If your tea is still not boiling, go ahead and get your glass out of the cabinet, but don't put the ice in yet.
9. When tea starts to boil, IMMEDIATELY remove it from the stove; you don't want your tea bags to bust.
10. Pour tea into the pitcher and stir with a wooden spoon.
11. I put the tea bags back in the pot and fill up the pot with cold water and gently press on the bags with the wooden spoon being careful not to bust the bags, then pour into the pitcher.
12. Repeat 11 until your pitcher is full. Fill your glass with ice, pour yourself some tea, and put the pitcher in the fridge.

If you are expecting company, or if it's Sunday, rinse your pot and start another batch. Otherwise, immediately wash your pot and have it in the ready.

I have memories of my mom using an empty gallon of milk and filling it with water and Good Earth tea bags and letting it sit outside all day.:cool2:

American Classic Tea is grown here in Charleston. First and only tea plantation in the country. It's owned by Biglow now, but it is the BEST for sweet tea.

Have you ever seen any of the royal folks?
Of course we go to tea regularly :rotfl2: Actually I've seen the Queen, Princess Diana, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and I think the Queen Mum obviously when she was alive :rotfl: Mainly as a child when they opened a park or something, Margaret came and opened the building where I worked!

OMG that's hilarious :lmao: Would you like my Dad's English way?

Get the tea pot which is only used for tea
Warm the pot whilst waiting for the kettle to boil
Put the required amount of loose tea in the pot and immediately add boiling water (can not be reboiled!)
Stir and put the tea cosie on

Or if you come to my house boil kettle pour water onto tea bag quick stir, take out, add milk and drink, my Dad nearly has a heart attack when I do it like that :rotfl2:

We're here for you. :thumbsup2
:goodvibes
We only drink hot tea at the Chinese place as we are trying to be all authentic. We use every packet of sugar that's on the table.
:lmao: :lmao:
Do you know how quickly word of such a thing would spread around town?
Im getting the picture!!!!
If you are down to 1/2 pitcher, you need to check your social calendar. If you are expecting company or it's Sunday, you always have some in the ready.
this is some serious stuff
It's ok, we accept all kinds. :grouphug:
Thank you, You southern ladies are so nice helping out a clueless northerner.

Whew- I was starting to feel guilty. :guilty: Too bad we don't all live closer so we could get together for tea!
That would have been nice;)

See this is where the whole language thing comes in because I haven't got a clue why that is funny :confused3 :rotfl2: Is Woodpeckers cider?

Yes, it is cider. We were introduced to this by Peter, our English friend I told you about.

OK so you have a pot just for tea??but its not a tea kettle.
I actually have a tea kettle.Im afraid to say this but here it goes.......
I put milk and sugar in my hot tea.:scared1:
On the odd occasion in drink Iced tea it is pre-made:eek:

Well thanks so much for filling me in on the proper making of tea. I think I may give it a try someday when I have some extra time on my hands.
We just dont drink tea around these parts so on all my travels I never paid much attention to the tea cultures. I am certainly ahead of the game now.
Dont let anyone tell ya that the DIS is not educational.

Hey, I just entered a contest to see the Queen and Duke when they come to Jamestown, VA on 5/3. They will pick 58 people to represent the 58 original colonists. I would love to win it. Have you ever seen any of the royal folks?

DH and I went to London twice. On one trip, they were filming 102 Dalmations and we got a great pic of Glen Close in her Cruella outfit - they were filming the scene where she is going crazy, walking down the street, and she sees everyone in black and white polka dots.
The next time we went, everywhere we went, they told us, "You just missed the Queen, you just missed Prince Charles..." EVERYWHERE!!! We couldn't believe it.

1-premade such as Arizona iced tea in a bottle. Just pour and drink
2-powered like lipton brand. just add water and mix up
Do no buy the Pre-made tea. Do not buy instant tea. Do not use one of those iced tea makers. I bought one of those, made some tea and my nephews refused to drink it and ragged me all weekend on how they couldn't believe any southerner could not make tea.

I knew we could smarten her up! Where is Cary does she live? We are about 15 minutes from Cary.

I'm not sure what area she is in now as I haven't seen her home since we moved from Greensboro.

Love the 12 steps to making tea. That's how you do it. You can always tell which is the "tea pot" because it is stained brown.

Not the pretty little bird then :rotfl2:

No. I'll PM you because I don't want to be kicked of the dis.

And back to the tea.
If you don't have a teapot, us kuntry folk just use a saucepan - add water and tea bags, but if you have a gas stove, be careful not to start a fire.

:confused3 Hey, I used to be on the list. Where did I go?

We are going to be at OKW Oct 7-12. Thanks:thumbsup2

OMG that's hilarious :lmao: Would you like my Dad's English way?

Get the tea pot which is only used for tea
Warm the pot whilst waiting for the kettle to boil
Put the required amount of loose tea in the pot and immediately add boiling water (can not be reboiled!)
Stir and put the tea cosie on
Wait 2 minutes
Add milk to cup and pour using a strainer

Or if you come to my house boil kettle pour water onto tea bag quick stir, take out, add milk and drink, my Dad nearly has a heart attack when I do it like that :rotfl2:

Uh, I understand your way, excluding the milk part and add the sugar, but I am clueless on your dad's way (but interested!):confused3 Do you have a visual of a tea cosie? Not too sure if Food Lion has loose tea either. Somehow, "whilst waiting for the kettle to boil" has a more refined tone than "while waitin' for the pot" but I can't seem to figure out how to work the word "whilst" into conversation!;)

The next time we went, everywhere we went, they told us, "You just missed the Queen, you just missed Prince Charles..." EVERYWHERE!!! We couldn't believe it.

Sounds like me and the ever-elusive Dream Squad!

American Classic fan here, but never see it in Atlanta. I'm a South Carolinian.

Hey, BA took SC history last year (as we lived there)--she said the 2 most important things to remember for the PACT test...
1st to secede from the union
only tea plantation in the US

Now, we moved her right half-way through VA history and those facts aren't as useful!:rotfl:

What was so funny is the second half of the word Woodpecker is a naughty American term.

No. I'll PM you because I don't want to be kicked of the dis..

I thought that only happened if the word Focker preceded it.:lmao:

Hey S'late--I saw an ACTUAL south of the border bumper sticker in the car pool line at school today!:lmao: Wait--I think I'm on the wrong thread for that.......link to her TR for details and I'll repost!
