I am bringing my 9 yr old adhd dd to the doctor today to talk about meds :( I really don't want to but my husband and I have tried everything else. We know that in order for her to maintain in 4th grade she will need something to help her attention span.

The only meds she's ever had was ritialin and it gave her ticks - 1 day and that was it for me.

just curious what has helped your kids? thank Ü

Each child is different, and may react differently to meds. Make sure you tell the Dr. what didn't work in the past to help determine the next step.

For my DS, daytrana is what works, but it is the same type of med as ritalin.

Good luck.

DS9 has been on Daytrana now for 2 yrs. No problems other than when he does not have it on for a whole day he gets a stomach ache. Dr says it is not from the meds. Otherwise no problems it has been great for us-especially since DS cant swallow pills. Good Luck finding something that works for you :)

DS15 uses the daytrana patch. He can now swallow pills (thanks to nerds and m and m's) but the dr left him on daytrana so we don't get the sick feeling side effect. He tried other orals before the patch but was so sick because it went thru his stomach. No issues now with the patch. DS9 takes focalin and ritalin and we have not had any troubles. BUT he has to have 3 doses per day (1 focalin and 2 ritalin). And it still wears off by 7pm but I try to have homework done by then for him and special needs DS15 who can't stand the distractions!!!
