meatloaf in the crockpot

I've never done it, but figure it will work. I looked up recipes that said low for 8-10 hours. That seemed very long to me.

I'm making it with about 1 1/2 lbs ground beef. How long do you guys think

I just made it yesterday for the first time in quite a while. I cook for about 1 1/2 hours on high and then 5 hours on low. Also put a couple of balls of foil underneath and it won't sit in the grease and make sure the meat doesn't touch the sides or it will stick.

Today's crockpots cook at a higher temp & take less time than say crockpots from the 70's or 80's. Perhaps due to health reasons & too low of temps for meat?

Back then, it seemed most recipes were for 8-10 hrs. Todays' recipes usually fall within 4-6 hrs, and occasional 8 hr recipe.

So...how old is the recipe you looked at?

The recipe was on allrecipes.com, so probably not all that old. You are right on about the time thing. I had a crock pot that was around 20 years old, and ruined more than a couple of meals.

I'm going to cook it on low, for 6 hours. My crockpot has the timer that puts it to warm, and DD will be getting home,can check to make sure it is done, and restart it if need be.

This is the recipe I use...with lipton onion soup mix(plus I add a lot of veggies). I cook for approximately six hours on low and it comes out tender and juicy and delicious.

That recipe looks good. I have never tried to cook meatloaf in a crock pot, but I think I will give it a try now.

This is close to what I did. I used tomato sauce instead of ketchup. I didn't know the recipe- I just made it up. It is in the fridge ready to go in the morning.

on low that probably isn't far off. might be closer to 7-8 instead of 8-10 on low. I only cook my meatloaf in the crockpot. that way its made the night b4 and i can just slip it in in the morning. Just leave some tin foil under it so you can lift it out easy and back in to warm. I got my recipe from gooseberry patch. I just subbed Lipton soup mix for the actual onion. works great.
