You guys are talking about having some fancy dinner or brunch (btw, what the heck is a brunch) and I am getting concerned.

I don't know the names of fancy foods and wines (my wife does though) and I really don't want to show my lack of knowledge about things that I guess I should know.

While I am kind of posting this as a jest but with some truth behind it as well as I am a hamburger, steak, and pizza (and beer) kind of guy. Am I going to be out of place?

I am just a cajun who snuck out of the swamp.

Thanks

I love brunch (combined BReakfast and lUNCH).

Don't worry about the food and how fancy it may be, it all ends up the same place.

Although my husband doesn't think I should tell people (especially wine afficionados (sp?), I like to mix my (preferably pink) wine with seltzer and ice cubes. Really not a wine expert at all, but I do love FOOD! (and "girly" martinis).

Don't worry:thumbsup2

You can just hang out with me Drake. We'll devour everything we see whether we know what it is or not! :thumbsup2

I am not going on this cruise, but would love to. I have been on about 5 cruises. I went one time with a company that I worked for. There were employees and their spouses. On the menu was Snapper. Meaning Red Snapper. One of the spouses went on and on how when they were younger and went fishing they would always catch and cook snapper. Now I am not a fisherman, but I know you can not catch Red Snapper in the lakes of Minnesota, even if we have 10,000 of them! I asked him if he went on a lot of deep sea fishing trips, and he said no, just down to the river. Then it hit us all at once. He was talking about Turtles. Snapping turtles. Try to keep a straight face with that.:rotfl:

Don't work Drake. Scrape most food long enough and chances are you'll expose either meat or potatoe. :woohoo:

I agree with everyone here and if you're talking about Palo's being the fancy brunch, it's more of a fancy setting and good food that is presented well with excellent service. We won't even be in the actual restaurant so that will change the atmosphere a bit. They have steak and potatoes I assure you, because steak is my favorite thing to get at fancy restaurants.

I can identify bacon in all of its forms... if it doesn't have a label, I'll taste it. If I taste it twice, it probably ain't all bad.

What we are worried about is if your tasting affords anything left for us? :yay:

Don't worry Drake. Every dinner menu has something basic like a filet, ribs or a strip steak and they often come with a glaze, sauce, juice or a gravy of some sort. If that doesn't appeal to you, just ask if you can have the glaze, juice. or gravy on the side, if possible. That way you can taste it first. I am not an adventurous eater myself, but I always manage to find something that I like.

You'll do just fine. Tell your waiter that your not very familiar with the wine choices and he'll be happy to make a great suggestion each evening. It's not all that complicated and believe me... everyone there is having such a great time that they don't notice the small stuff.

Be wary of your waiters wine choices, mine last time keep pushing expensive wine at me!!

I'm a pretty picky eater myself. It's only been in the last few years that i've gotten a wee bit more adventurous! I'm pretty much a burger or chicken fingers kind of gal...drives DH NUTS!! :rotfl:

But on our cruise last year, I was able to find PLENTY to eat that I enjoyed! Don't worry about the food...honest!

I didn't have time to catch up on the big cruise thread up there!

Very exciting and I'm happy for both of you and your DD!!

Wahoo!!

It will be great to meet you and please have plenty of pictures of Norman and Susie!!

You do realize, you have just become my new best friend!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now, don't go telling :lovestruc Norman:lovestruc that! I am just a huge "puppy" lover and labs are a favorite of mine. I've never met a labrador that wasn't a total love sponge!! And honestly, with a name like Susie... :cutie:

If there is a menu involved, like most cruises sit down dinners, than there is usually a short, one-sentence, explaination as to what the food is. Like when we had our last nights dinner on my last cruise (Carnival) and there was chateaubriand on the menu. I ordered that because I love a nice piece of meat, my friends at the table saw it and asked me where that was on the menu. I showed it to them and that was it! No feeling bad or anything, I love teaching people about food!
