Go back to post twenty-nine where I am directly labeled w/a god complex.

She could have just easily said that not all teachers behave that way. But instead--went 100 steps past that.
I did ... see post nineteen. Then, see my post on thirty-four where it's stated that nobody cares about the kid. I think that after saying that not all teachers are that way in post nineteen, I had to back up that statement again. Sorry if you don't agree that it fits.

For some reason, my number keys aren't working and that's why numbers are typed out. And, no ... the NUM LOCK is not on.

Daxx--curious question that I have pondered for a while--how do children in a low income area afford a private school?

I can't speak for Daxx's school but our school gives Financial Aid. In fact, the Endowment fund just received a gift worth approximately 3.5 million. A significant % of the yearly earnings from that amount will be held in reserve to provide tuition assistance for some students.

If some don't have food--what are they doing in your school out of curiousity?

We have a lot of kids from low income families at the private school where I teach. The school gets money from different private foundations to replace the tuition money. The parents just pay for the books if they can, but I usually have to give them my copy or make photocopies.

I saw that post--that was after you took the sarcastic tone and pointed out how "caring" you were..in a "smart" way. They were sarcastic in reply.

In post #40 (there, the buttons are working!), I explain it ... but will repost it here.

The parents of these children are able to send their children to my school b/c of parishoners who donate funds for needy children to get a Catholic education. We accept anyone who has a desire to attend. In many cases, as long as a parent can pay ten dollars a week, their child can attend b/c the priest will just allow the billing to go. Yes, they rack up a fortune and many end up not paying it at all in the end. Some parishoners and local businesses "adopt" students and pay their tuition fees while others donate here and there to help students out. As I said, there are some families who pay very little but are allowed to attend. I suppose the priest feels small amounts are better than none at all.

Does that help you out? We also have what is called the "Bison Fund" which allocates funds for parents who have certain income levels and choose to send their children to Catholic schools.

Of course, in order to keep our school open, we have to have the numbers up, lest we close. The more bodies, the lower the risk that our school closes. Therefore, even if we have families paying $10 a week, there are bodies in the school. However, b/c of the increase of students who aren't paying regularly, it effects every teacher's salary in the fact that we have not had a pay raise in over 3 yrs. I am not complaining about this ... I am happy to have a job in an area that is in the process of laying off 50% of its public school teachers.

Yeaaah ... I don't think the teacher god/judgemental thing was a sarcastic reply.

I said the God part was sarcastic as you mocked having a God complex.

never commented on judgemental.

And technically--you were said to be God-like..and not to have a God complex ;).

I am willing to bet that the poster wouldn't have mentioned the God part--if you hadn't first.

Yep, it is not just the 'lunch ladies' either.... This is an EPIDEMIC problem in education today. I FIRMLY believe that educators have a definate "God Complex". (similar to Doctors having been known for having God Complex.) :sad2:

These people think that they are almighty god because they have a little contol, over CHILDREN... :confused3

Excuse me, but she brought up the God-complex first.

She didn't call Daxx that--it was a generalized statement.

Dax and another poster said..."Here's my God complex"...and listed all these usual and wonderful things...

to which was replied...Judgemental and God-like.

Daxx is an educator. Therefore, she did accuse Daxx of having a god-complex.

I'm out of this one. It got me more worked up than I should be over a message board post.

I understand.

Someone claimed someone wasn't a marathoner on another thread b/c they had too much bodyfat. Their expertise proclaims this at fact.

Their expertise is WRONG!

I concede--as I just realized the point.

And I didn't hear Daxx speak negatively about ANY child...just some parents.
Your right. I was thinking about MONSTERKITTY'S comment about "your precious little child". I apologize for the mistake Daxx.

No need to apologize but I do want to commend you for doing so. Very kind of you to say that and I appreciate it. No harm done.

Well, Lisa Loves Pooh...I think everyone lost interest in this other than you and me! :teeth:

But I'm glad you saw my point...and re: the person who says someone isn't a marathoner because of their bodyfat ratio...want me to go beat them up? ;)

That's a really, really nice story, RickinNYC. Every school should have teachers and a Principal that are that caring. And, I agree that teachers deserve a big thank you, but not ALL of them. There are some that should not be teaching and I do not (and did not earlier) mean that comment personally against anyone in particular. I just know from my own experiences. Some are absolutely wonderful, just like the one you spoke of.

I think, with any job in any profession. that goes without saying.

I had to sign off for a while but I wanted to say that this subject (not being allowed to use the potty) just hit home for me. Close to home.

As for teachers, I 'd just like to say something:

I only remember a few names out of all the teachers I had while growing up. And I had a lot over the years.

I remember the names of the teachers who were really special and went out of thier way to be kind, caring, helpful, fair, etc..

And, I remember the couple of aweful teachers I had. Not that they were mean to just ME, but they were just not nice people, in general. I remember one retired Army officer I had for a teacher. You would think we were in basic training....he was loud, intimidating, scary, he slammed his fists on the table...he flunked straight "A" students. All the parents were complaining about him. Nothing anyone did was ever good enough. We were scared to death of this man. He never smiled, either.

The memories of a mean/bad teacher can haunt someone for the rest of thier lives. Not that it controls their life, but it's something someone may always carry around in the back of their mind.

Even kids being refused to use the bathroom may develope some real issues.

Fortunately, I have been pretty happy with most of my childrens' teachers. And, I do appreciate them very much. I appreciate anyone who does their job well.

As for bathroom breaks....

Please think of this... If you are teaching and you suddenly have an emergency that cannot wait (you have to go now) I know you would find a way to get to a bathroom. I know that teachers sometimes have another teacher watch their room for a couple of minutes. Or, they tell the kids to read something and excuse themselves for a moment, etc...

Kids are people too and they deserve the same consideration.

I will always respect good teachers. They have a very important job in our childrens lives. And, to defend the teachers: the parents need to be involved as much as possible.

Right, my problem was that Wishing didn't say that SOME educator's had a God-complex, just that educators did. That, to me, is the same thing as saying that kid's leave the cafeteria to play in the bathroom and stop up the toilets. Sure, some of them do, but not all, and we shouldn't all be punished for the few that do, should we? :)

OP---I wet myself in 2nd grade and still remember how awful it was. Your poor daughter---I am guessing there are so many kids nobody can remember she is the one with the doctor's note, so I would make sure she knew to remind them that the "doctor says I need to go!" and I bet she will get to go. Sorry that she has gone though so much trauma already. I would be upset too.

If you're a sahm, how about volunteering to monitor the lunch room in your school's cafeteria if you're having problems? Go to the principal and say "I know that kids like to play in the bathrooms, but I am willing to come in and lend a hand so that kids can use the bathroom for what it's intended for." I know that at my school and DS's school, they are happy to have parents monitor the lunch room and help the kids w/opening their juice boxes, going to the bathroom, etc.

If you can't do it, maybe you have a friend who is a sahm and can go in. It sounds like there aren't enough people to monitor bathrooms and cafeteria -- maybe the extra help would be appreciated.

I am not a SAHM mom but it wouldn't matter anyway...parents are not allowed in the school or in the cafeteria unless its a special day like a kids concert or something like that...it is not an open school policy....

Aren't we talking about 6 year olds here? Sorry, but 6 year olds still need reminders and such. And, saying, "your precious little child" is just rude. I'm glad your not my childs teacher.

You're right, that was rude. I'm glad I'm not my child's teacher as well! :earseek: I apologize! 99.9% of the time I am not like that. Really. It must have been my evil twin. Or one of my VMK mules.

I don't like that at all! Every school (all 2 of them!) we've used has welcomed parents with open arms. What's the deal with that and is it OK with you?
