Hi. I was wondering if anyone has ever bought a meal at the airport specifically for bringing on the plane with these new restrictions?

Boston's Logan airport has something advertised on their website called Meals to Fly

Meals To Fly

Whether you are packing a briefcase or a bathing suit for your trip, there's one thing you'll want to bring onboard --- a tasty in-flight snack or meal from one of Logan's many restaurants!

From Legal's famous New England clam chowder, to an Old English Cheddar Houli-Burger, to a meal inspired by Boston's best chefs, the restaurants and cafes at Boston Logan International Airport can satisfy any craving. Logan's "Meals to Fly" are delectable meals and snacks, freshly prepared and packaged to take with you on your flight. Selections are offered at a wide range of prices - including children's meals. So, when you want to curb your hunger and catch your flight, grab a quick "Meal to Fly" at Logan. It may be the easiest part of packing for your trip!

As an added bonus, Logan Airport's Street Pricing Policy requires all airport food and retail merchants offer goods and service at prices similar to prices found at comparable locations in the Boston and Cambridge area, so grabbing a "Meal to Fly" is not only quick and convenient, but affordable too!

Go ahead: take a Big Mac to the Big Easy, a Fenway Frank to Frankfurt or cross the Atlantic with a Grilled Chicken Caesar. Rest assured, wherever you sit on your flight, your meal will be first class.

So I was wondering, do you buy them before security and they deliver them to the gate? Or are they only available beyond security?

Anyone with experience I would love to hear your reviews!

Sounds like they are just promoting the various food outlets in the airport.

You can bring food through security so long as it's not liquid or gel; ie jam on a sandwich is ok, jam in a jar is not. Mayo on a sandwich is ok, mayo in a squeeze packet is not ok.

Check the airport map to see what food locations are near your airline's gates. This varies widely by airport and by gate. Sometimes I find good things, many times not so good.

Also consider your fellow passengers when you bring a meal on board - smells become much stronger in an enclosed space with recirculated air.

Also check out your airlines 'buy on board' to see if they have any options for your length of flight time. I prefer United's 'rite bite' box with hummus, pita chips, and other items over most of the airport food offerings.

Thanks bavaria. I was checking the terminal's food options when I found this advertised. Most food places are located pre-security. Even both the Dunkin Donuts. I don't know how die hard coffee drinkers do it.

Glad to hear about the sandwich thing. I usually bring our own sandwiches and then DH said "Yeah but mayo is a cream/gel. Maybe we can't have it on our sandwiches"
Thus the start of my search this morning.

By the way we are flying Jetblue. No food options. Just a bag of chips or the other choices. Which are good. Just not a whole meal. And we have two little kids.

I brought a ham and cheese sandwich and a piece of chocolate cake from Pop Century thru security in August without any problem except the TSA guy was joking with me when I asked if cake with icing was allowed and he said "unless it is chocolate M'am then I'll have to confiscate it" I did forget to put mustard on it ahead of time so I had to eat it dry but now I know. My kids went thru security several times over Christmas with snacks like fruit roll ups and crackers in the back packs.

You can take food through the security line. You would have problems taking condiments or drinks through the line though.

Fofina, I flew Jet Blue out of Logan in October. They actually had a few snack options to choose from. But these are definitely snacks, not a meal. If you don't bring something from home, then definitely get your food before you go through security. We waited until after we went through security and there really aren't that many options available. Next time, I will pick up something before security and just buy my soda after security. By the way, the Jet Blue Logan to Orlando flight is great!

Hey Donald! We love Jetblue! And I don't mind really that they don't offer food. I usually bring sandwiches from home, then we thought about the mayo factor.

And as I was checking on Logan's website I noticed the new food options. Because like you last time I noticed not too many choices thru security at all.

So I guess i'm going to bring my sandwiches and just buy a drink on the other side!!

4 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!
