Meal Vouchers from Getaway website questions...

I have visited WDW numerous times but this is the first time to DL in a very long time. I usually book through DreamRes and get the Dining Plan and use them to make my ADRs. Since DL doesn't have this and I'm planning on buying meal vouchers from getaway website, my question is, do I buy the vouchers and then make the reservations or vice-versa? I want to do most of the Character meals since my DGS is autistic and handles the character greeting better this way. Since we are traveling in the peak of summer (7/6 to 7/12) I wanna make sure I get reservations. If anyone has bought these meal vouchers, do you have to give them a specific date to purchase the vouchers? Do you have to let Disney Dinning Reservations that you have these vouchers? Getaway advertises that these vouchers include tax and tip, is that correct? Any experiences with getaway would be appreciated.

We ordered the vouchers for our last trip. We did not have to give dates for them. I made our reservations online within a couple days of ordering the vouchers. We just "paid" with the vouchers upon arriving at the restaurant, no informing them beforehand. Tax and tip was included. The guy at the restaurant even reminded us that the tip was included.

Unless the vouchers from getaway are really discounted you're not really saving money with them. You might want to verify costs before getting them. The DL dining plan is different than WDW in that way.

Most people don't buy vouchers or meal plans for DLR. You book 60 days out for meals.

This is not true...Depends on the character meal.
You save some $$ when you use a voucher for Adult Surf's Up or Adult lunch at Ariel's Grotto...even with the AP discount...but those are the only times that the voucher will save you more. All of the other character meals would be cheaper to use the AP discount.

If you do not have an AP, you will save some money using vouchers when you purchase:

• Storytellers both adult and child
• Ariel's Grotto Adult meals (you save a little for breakfast, and a lot more for lunch). You lose over $6 for the child's breakfast and lunch)
• Goofy's Kitchen adult dinner - you lose $ with the adult brunch and the child's brunch/dinner vouchers

Minnie's is always cheaper to buy outright than using a voucher since they do not collect tip.

You can make the reservations without having the vouchers and you don't need to let them know about using a voucher when making the reservation. We used getaway today last time we went and bought the vouchers like a week before we left. I didn't even have to wait for them to come in or print them Disneyland hotel printed them for us on arrival. You also just need to hand the vouchers over when you pay.

Your post is only factual when dealing with Surf's Up. Your statement was very broad and sounded like you were referring to all character meals since you were not specific.

Thank you for all your replies, very much appreciated. Just to clarify I did do the math and knew which meal vouchers would save me some $ and which would not but that is NOT the only reason I wanted to buy the vouchers. I wanted to purchase them on a monthly basis and just have that out of the way and accounted for so it is more a budget planning thing than savings reason but I appreciate the concern. I don't have nor want an AP since this will be a one time in a Long time that we will be visiting DL, we are from the east coast so it is more expensive to visit DL than WDW. If you are buying them for budgeting reasons, why not purchase Disney Gift Cards in the same amount each month so you do not lose money? Plus you can include quick service/snacks to that budget as well as well
