Meal Plan Question....

I have booked a room directly thru Disney (with AP disc) and I wanted to add the meal plan. I was told by the rep, I cant get the AP discount & the MP, it was either one or the other.

Has anyone heard of this? Am I able to add the plan when I check in?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

You have to buy a park ticket to get the dining plan (it is only on packages). So if you use your AP for the room discount you cannot be on a package, therefore you cannot get the dining plan.

Yes, that's pretty much the way it works. BUT the good news is that you are eligible to get the DDE (Disney Dining and Entertainment) card which will get you 20% off all your food and drinks at TS service and a handful of CS, plus a few other nice discounts like half price PI admission.

You might want to run a few numbers and see what makes the most financial sense for you- giving up your AP savings (might make sense if it's only a small amount, say for a value), buying a one-day ticket (you must do this too to get the DDP) and getting the DDP (Disney Dining Plan); OR enjoying your room savings and considering the DDE card, which costs 60$.

Last year I crunched numbers repeatedly and went for my discounted room and DDE. It works best for us- and we don't feel that push to plan around our ADR's and all that food.

The DDE card can save a lot, with family of ten we saved over $600 in 5 days.

This will be our fourth summer in a row to go and my mom & I decided to do the Dining Plan this year. We never really got to experience many nice sit-down meals before and I've heard that it's pretty good for that.
