ME vs. Grocery stop

I have really enjoyed the convenience of having breakfast in our room- saves time and money. But if we go with ME, we won't be able to do that. The grocery stop is expecially tempting now that I hear there are fridges in the moderate and deluxe rooms (correct me if I am wrong on that.)

I'd love to save the $85 we spent on a towncar, but I don't want to turn around and have to spend it on breakfast every morning because we couldn't get groceries.

What do you think?

You could order groceries from gardengrocer.com or netgrocer.com. I have used netgrocer and wegoshop.com in the past and had very good luck with them. Wegoshop.com was sold however and I have no idea how the service is at present. Gardengrocer.com (at least I think that's the right name) is currently a board sponsor, and I have heard some good things about them. The delivery services do charge a fee.

You could pack cereal and breakfast bars in your luggage and just buy milk at the resort store. Won't be cheap, but...

If you are looking for votes. I vote for getting the towncar. We would spend probably close to the $85 on buying beverages over the course of a week. Just having water and soda in the room saves us a ton! I too like to have breakfast and even some lunch foods (cold cuts, bread, chips) in the room.

You didn't mention how many in your family or how long you were staying. I don't imagine a family of four could eat breakfast for under $20 or $25 each day. I also like the idea of having my "chauffer" (sp?) waiting when I get off the plane. It makes me feel pampered and special to have that kind of service. Just my thoughts.

Gooding's. www.goodings.com. $10 flat fee, $50 minimum. We used 'em and were very satisfied. The best part is you don't have to schedule the delivery. They deliver to Bell Services (BS). BS calls you. If you're not in, they hold it for you. They even keep the cold stuff cold for you (Gooding's separately bags and labels the cold stuff). They leave a message in your room and you call for your delivery when you're good and ready. Great system!

The listings on their website seem pretty sparse, but you can order anything they stock on their shelves.

The only downside to Gooding's for some people is they can't deliver alcohol.

My vote is towncar and stop. I can't give up my towncar.

By the time you tip the driver, you would have to save over $100 to make it worth taking the towncar. We take everything we need for breakfast in a small suitcase and use it for suveniers when we go home. I think that when we make a grocery stop we overspend there and usually end up with too much food. We used the ME in June when it was just starting and I would do it again. I hear that it is running a lot more smoothly now too!

My most important thing in the morning is coffee, which is so hard to find a good cup in the AM at WDW. UGH, the stuff they say is coffee should be outlawed. Anyway... this is one reason why I prefer to have breakfast in my room, so I vote for a towncar service and grocery stop.

For June, I'm taking my nephew for his 10th birthday and we'll be using Sunray Transportation as usual. This time, though, I actually took the time and did some figuring. By paying for a car service and using the grocery stop to pick up simple breakfast items and a case or so of bottled water (I have big water issues) I will be saving a minimum of $30. Most likely this will be higher by time finish making my list. This is versus using the free ME and eating at the food court. Plus, my nephew can fix his own breakfast and I can just worry about making a real cup of coffee.

When I have used a grocery delivery service I have gotten....a case of water, cereal, bread, peanut butter/jelly, chips, bagals, juice, milk, creamer, coffee, soda..this type of stuff. Then, I add the $15 delivery fee to it and a $10 tip, it still comes out a lot cheaper than a towncar service and I don't have to lug it around. Same for my luggage. I like the ability to say goodby to my luggage at my home airport, hop on a free bus, check-in at my resort, have my luggage delivered to me, and then have my groceries delivered to me....right in my room/villa. This has worked for me every time I have done it. I have booked towncar service with a grocery stop now several times and so far have only been able to use it once. Otherwise the driver had some 'reason' he couldn't take the time to stop. I love the grocery delivery services.
