ME Luggage - Many ?s

Whether or not you found someone at Baggage Claim to help you, you must check in at the Magical Express welcoming station in all cases. If you did not get your baggage tags, you can hand over your claim checks there and the baggage will magically appear at your resort as advertised assuming the baggage got to Orlando.

It is a good idea to have two labels or tags on each suitcase, having your name, the date of travel, the airport code (MCO for Orlando), the destination address ("Disney" and the resort name) and in this case the words "Magical Express". Also remove all other tags, labels, bumper stickers etc. with other destinations named.

Lime green ribbons to mark your baggage, anyone?

Let's start a fad! Make up stick on labels, at least 3 x 5 inches, with any three digit number in large numerals on it and the words "check name tag also" in small print underneath. (Everyone in the family uses the same number) Plaster two of these on each suitcase.

Daxx's wife again. I called CRO on 4/27 and the CM said they would fed-ex the DME tags to me. Since they didn't arrive by Saturday (4/30), I called CRO again. The CM I spoke with said there was nothing in the computer about sending me fed-ex'd DME tags. What the heck!? So, he gives me the DME number to call. Super, right? Wrong! DME is only open Mon. thru Fri. and not on weekends. What are the chances of my receiving tags by Thurs. departure? Wanna guess 0! I am so disappointed in this whole thing. Disney promises us worry free luggage and all I'm doing is worrying b/c nobody seems to know what is going on.

I completely do not understand why people leaving late May have their tags yet those of us leaving the 5th and shortly after that have nothing. You would think that Disney would bend over backwards to accommodate those with immediate needs. And, you'd think they'd want to have a smooth launch. For crying out loud -- they can do it w/DCL, why can't they do it with this?! And, they've been touting this program since January -- and they still can't get the tag situation straightened out after 4 months? Come on.

Now, I will end up having to get my own luggage. OK, I can manage. However, I'm supposed to just give them to a CM and tell them what resort I'm at. Well, if there are a lot of people w/o DME tags and the CMs have all this luggage to deal with, how is the CM going to know what luggage goes where?!
Yeah, I better get more than a pin and lanyard for dealing with this mess!
Who do I complain to when this is all said and done? I know that I'll never get what Disney advertised (the hassle free luggage part, at least). I know that it's new and there are kinks ... but I find it ridiculous that people leaving in late May are getting their tags and they're not doing anything for those of us who are "kicking off" the program. I was promised "magic" and I sure am not getting any. I'm just getting more stress.

I am leaving 5/8. I have no tags. I would not even have KNOWN there were supposed to be tags if it weren't for DisBoards. I am worried that the whole thing is such a mess that it will be a bad start to my trip.

I'm with you dis-sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all this lack of common sense,
planning, and disarray, I'm not really sure I would trust them with my luggage

Plus, I think I read somewhere that the people who are getting their tags and booklet are getting a voucher for a lanyard and pins. Does this mean we aren't going to get this too?

I can't say with any authority that people are NOT getting a lanyard and pins with their DME stuff (leaving May 8, no luggage tags for me :badpc: ), but I'll bet a Mickey waffle this is misinformation. Even though I'm traveling this Sunday, I booked my trip last year, before MYW started. My package is called a Dream Maker package, and one of the things I get as part of this package is a voucher for a lanyard and two pins. This could be the source of the above info.

Even though DME seems it'll be a brief headache, it's still free, and, more importantly, on Sunday I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD !!! :bounce:

I called ME yesterday. I was told that a large shipment of tags went out Friday. If we do not get our tags we are to go down to the 1st floor and someone will get our luggage. We are not to get our own luggage. Due to security reasons they may not allow your luggage on the bus if you go and get it. Also, only carry-ons will be allowed on the bus. All other luggage goes on another bus.

But, as many of you know each time you call you get a different story.

thedish,

That is very interesting, and actually makes me feel a little better. I just picture all these people who were NOT signed up for magical express getting off their planes, seeing the CMs waving the Mickey hands, following them all the way to the ME check in, getting on the bus with their luggage, etc. And of course Disney would not be prepared for those people because they didn't have reservations. It sounds like a nightmare!

I hope our luggage tags were in that Friday shipment! LOL!

I just called ME and they said that I should receive my tags, no problem. LOL! They couldn't tell me when, though! They said that only those people traveling during the very first week were running into problems with luggage tags.

Of course, I won't believe a word of it until I see my tags!

I received my ME tickets last week and there is a coupon for a free lanyard and a free trading pin.

Just to add another disappointed voice to this thread... we also booked back in early Feb and are arriving MAY 5. Still no tags. We can't get quality answers out of CRO, so I booked a round-trip town car. Yes, I probably only need one-way travel, since things will be better once we're on site, but I've grown weary of the whole bus and ME experience. I don't want to waste a minute thinking about this once we arrive. We really only wanted it because we wouldn't have to handle our luggage. I'm really upset that us early adopters of ME have all this worry and don't get the full benefits. I mean, I'm now spending about $120 to get a car service to replace what I thought was FREE!

I just called the 800 ME number this morning to inquire about our ME tags - we leave in 10 days & haven't heard anything yet. After being on hold about 20 minutes (they must be busy there this morning ;) ) a very nice CM confirmed all of my info & gave me instructions on where to go at MCO once we land. She mentioned that there will be lots of CM's at the airport to direct everyone to the right location.

She also mentioned that we can still participate in ME without the luggage tags & that the CM's at MCO will get some info from us when we land & they will be able to intercept our luggage for transport to our Resort. She assured me that everything will work out fine & asked me not to get upset if we don't receive our tags on time (I'm guessing she's spoken to a lot of upset vacationers ;) .)

She mentioned that she thought that all luggage tags had gone out on Friday, but wasn't able to tell me if mine specifically had gone out. So, I'm not too worried about it,but I will definitely be packing essentials (like underwear) in my carry-on, just in case there is any confusion with the luggage. :teeth:

I just finished talking to a cast member at the magical express tel# 1-866-599-0951 who gave me my magical express # so if I don't receive my bag tags by my departure I can use this ME reservation # and that will identify me.
Than I go to the welcome center and they scan my luggage tags so they can be retreived and sent to the resort and then they print out my voucher for the bus. So I do think they have this worked out for the people who don't receive there tags. I would call and check to make sure you have your ME res # and that your in the system.

I also just called ME and a very nice rep told me that if we did not receive our tags before we leave all we need to do is find a CM at the airport. They will come with us to retrieve our luggage and tag it there with us, and that's it. So worst case is that we need to wait for our luggage w/ a CM. I went into this new ME expecting some glitches...nothing runs right the first time and where we are leaving the 2nd week of operation, having to wait for my own luggage and getting a free ride to our hotel is really worth me saving the $80 it would have cost me with a town car.

I understand what your saying. My only problem is that Disney hasn't been able to tell us anything. They should KNOW who's tickets didn't print and send a letter or call to explain what to do. The service isn't "free" ... it's built into the price... kinda like when you buy furniture and they say "FREE DELIVERY"...we all know it's not free and probably could have saved $50 if you picked it up yourself. Bad analogy? Anyway, I got the town car, so we're OK. I guess my biggest issue is that we were originally scheduled to arrive May 4 and the Disney rep encouraged me to change my date by 1 day so I could take advantage of ME!!

I'm throwing in the towel, waving the white flag, coming out with my arms on my head, I surrender!

I called the DME 866 number and talked to a CM. The CM at DME said "let me get your info. confirmed" and asked me for the flight numbers all over again. This made me think that CRO never gave DME my info back in Feb! Now, since I have the sneaky suspicion it wasn't in the system at DME, even though I gave my info to the CM who took my ressies on Feb. 15th, why didn't anyone tell me to call DME? Why did the CM on 4/27 tell me that she'd have the tags fed ex'd to me?

Now I have to fetch my own luggage. Yes, she said I could give a description and claim tickets to a CM who would go behind the scenes and pull it for me. But, how many other people do you think have black rolling suitcases that are the same size as mine? About 50 kajillion. I'd rather pull my own luggage and be sure it's correct -- which the CM said I could do as well. However, that's the whole process I wanted to avoid!

For the final straw -- those who received their tags have a coupon for a free lanyard and pin? Where's my coupon? I'm sure I'll never get that. Groan!

Who do I complain to? This is just crazy. Nobody should have to go through this hassle. If I had to call DME myself w/my flight info, I would have. But, the CM back in Feb. took all the info and assured me everything would be taken care of. Why wasn't it? Where did they drop the ball on that one!? I have a feeling that they never forwarded the early bookings to DME so we all got the shaft.

Who is going to complain? And, to whom are you going to complain?

When we booked our trip in Dec 2004, we opted for the town car transfer. When we saw the ME service on TV, I cancelled my town car and my price didn't change except for the $80 transfer...now I'm not saying that it isn't built in some how, but I didn't see it for me to complain. Any new thing has start up problems, as far as I'm concerned, I personally don't mind being the guinea pigs for other people to enjoy ME. IMO

Adding some insult to injury here ...

was perusing my packet of Disney info. ... you know, the one they send you w/the maps, etc. in the purply-blue Tinkerbell trimmed envelope ... well, lo and behold, on the back of one of the little flyers (the one titled Disney Resort Benefits), it states:

NEW! Disney's Magical Express Service
Flying into Orlando? When you're a Disney Resort Guest, there's no need to hassle with your luggage at baggage claim. Disney's Magical Express Service take you from Orlando International Airport to your Resort, while we pick up your bags and take them straight to your room. And when your vacation's over, you and your bags are whisked from your Disney Resort back to the airport. If you haven't already, contact us to arrange this complimentary service.

Fine and dandy ... but I did contact you on Feb. 15th to arrange this service and, although you led me to believe it was taken care of, you did nothing. You didn't even bother to follow through on the fex ex you promised on 4/27. If you wanted me to call DME and arrange it all myself, you should have stated that on your flyer. Because, if that was the way to secure the ME tags, that's what I would have done.

This is what aggravates me the most. They give you this sunny, carefree song and dance about not having to hassle with your luggage at baggage claim ... but how many of us are going to have to hassle?
