MDE, not impressive at all

Went to my sister-in-law's house last night to help her plan for a few day at WDW later this month. This would be her first Disney trip and she was already dreading it because she's more of a beach girl.

So her first taste of Disney was the the My Disney Experience app which was a totally frustrating experience from lock ups, to being kicked out constantly, to being very slow, to finally just giving up. It took us over 3 hours just to end up getting one reservation at Skipper Canteen. Not a good way to start.

Me, being a Disney regular for years, had never been enamored with MDE and FP+ in general, but you would think after years of having the app it would run flawlessly. However, it's still terrible.

Yeah, I know, I'm sure there are plenty out there with perfect experiences. I'm just upset with how last night went.

Ouch. At that point I would have switched over to using the website, I think for things like ADRs I find the website a little easier anyway.

Agreed. Initially I use the website for making ADRs and FP+. If I need to change something, I'll use MDE, especially if I'm in the parks, but it's much easier to use the website for setting up reservations.

That's what I do, too. But DH and I were just at parks over spring break and had no problems with app for changing reservations and such, although he has a new phone that works really well (my phone is so old I can't even run the app).

MDE was down all last night. Some report it’s still down for them. Even the CMs couldn’t book last night because they were “updating”. Just let her know you didn’t realize it was down for everyone, even the website, and that you guys can try again. MDE is way too important for her to give up on!

Yes, last night there were many issues. I had problems getting my experiences to load. Also, having a problem this morning but only when I access through Google. If you access through IE, it looks to be working fine. For the most part though MDE works well, I'm on there everyday and other than some issues, which everyone will have, I've been very happy with the results. I'm a big fan of MDE and can't imagine planning a trip without it these days. Timing is everything I guess but don't give up on it because the end result is worth the effort.

Tons of issues last night for me, too. Super slow, not loading, etc, etc. Seems to be fixed this morning. :)

The app is garbage. I cannot count how many times I have uninstalled and re-installed it. I still get an error message when I go into dining every single time.

I hate that it's a necessity.

I'm using MDE on my laptop. It works fine and very rarely have issues. The app on my phone, on the other hand, is flawed to say the least. Changes never appear and I have to reload. I end up with more than one meal at the same time. Yes, that is not good!

Yes, as I said, the app is garbage. While I have my fair share of dining issues on the MDE website, it's not as bad as the app.

Sorry, I thought you were the OP replying. Was't sure how OP was accessing the site until I went back and reread. I'm hoping the app is working better once we arrive particularly when it comes to making FP.

I've never had any issues going through the app, including booking dining reservations. Always been smooth and fast

If you're experiencing issues on the app then use the web browser on your phone or go on a computer.

I also had problems making dining reservations on the app. I learned that I had to refresh after each one, then it was smooth sailing. Good luck!

I found it much easier to use MDE via the webpage on my phone, rather than the app. Same reasons as others have given above.

As others have mentioned, both the app and the site were having issues last night. I have had issues using both in the past, but I've had more good days than bad.

I was having issues last night with both the app and the website. The entire system was having issues. Not unusual, unfortunately. :sad2:

It is difficult when working at it's best.
However, unfortunately you hit it last night when it was at it's worse, both the app and the website.
They were doing another one of their Magical Enhancements and the entire system was down, or rather up/down/up/down/up/down.
Right now, it seems to be back to it's norm, which is difficult but at least seems to be functional right now.

Does this note ever go away. The time will come when I WILL need to order some MBs.
