MDE issue, help is appreciated

I know, another MDE thread but I have not seen one with the same issue that I am having. My aunt is trying to link my uncle to my MDE. I already have her linked but I get this error when I try to accept the invitation that was sent to me for him:

Sorry
Sorry, we encountered a problem finalizing your invitation from ___ to Family & Friends.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?

I think if you're linked, you're linked. You don't both need to invite each other.

You are doing the process incorrectly. If you are wanting to include him in your MDE, you are the one that has to add him and send the invite. Your Aunt can't invite him to join your MDE; it is your responsibility to invite him.

If he has his own MDE, you have to invite him using his email account that he used for his MDE. If he is managed by your Aunt, you still have to invite him through her MDE account's email.

Happened on Sunday. Not sure if this is why it's happening for you, but ...

We are going next week and someone from our party decided they wanted access to the plans after all (instead of just logging into my account which is what we normally do.)

The problem was that I had a whole slew of things already planned for that person with their name assigned in MDE. I was sending the invite from the friends and family section in the area where you can see the info about the person I created.

Since we weren't linked as friends and family before I made the reservations, and the person has an MDE account already, the system couldn't merge the person I created for them in MDE and the person's own account. Every time they tried to accept my invite it failed because there were plans in there for them.

It took an hour on the phone while someone did the manual merge - which I learned was removing the person I created from every reservation for anything (resort, Magical Express, dining, tickets and more) and replacing it with the person's actual MDE account.

Moral of the story, if someone is going to link, make sure it's before you make plans for them

ETA: this is my understanding of what our issue was as explained by tech support. I got off the call still confused but everything is all good now.

I tried that too and that didn't work either. He got the same error message.
