MDE and Disney Gift Cards

Is there any way to add an electronic gift card to somebody’s MDE? My daughter received a barcode email Disney gift card for Christmas (printed out on a piece of paper) from a family member for use on her trip this spring with her college dance classmates.

Can she add it to MDE? If not, what is the way to use that gift card and does she have to keep the printed out piece of paper she was given?

Gift Cards can't be stored in MDE. She will need to show the barcode each time she wants to use it as a form of payment.

Was it sent to her via email or to someone else? If she received the email, there should be a link to add it to her phones wallet app and she could show the barcode from there.

If you have an old Disney gift card you can transfer the funds from an e-gift card to the physical card via their gift card app … super easy to do and you can load up to $1000 on a card no matter what the original face value was/is … otherwise the link to the e-gift card will have a bar code to show each time it’s used

She should be able to add it to her smartphone's wallet from the email. Cast members will scan the barcode from her phone when she needs to use it.

While previous posters covered the basic function of Disney Gift cards. Why do you or your daughter want to add this Gift card to MDE?

As @erionm posted your daughter would be better serviced by just adding the Gift card to her smartphone wallet if she has one and use that for any purchases.

MDE is somewhat limited in when / where you can use it. For example she can't use a MB or even her smartphone for general charging at WDW within MDE. For this function to work she would need her MDE account tied back to her Disney resort reservation an have a credit card for her hotel folio.

In addition to the above information, she can use the gift card for in-app purchases like Mobile Dining orders, mobile checkout at gift shops, and purchases of Lightning Lanes.

To do that, the easiest way is to put the gift card number and EAN in a note on her phone, and use copy/paste on the payment page for any of the above purchases.
