MCO to begin using the new scanners within next 2-3 weeks

Um, actually, they can (that is, the person watching the xray monitor can; not the folks at the checkpoint); it's blurry, but it's there. Photos are readily available on the web, and there was one incident at MIA where one TSO teased another one for months about what he had seen on the image during training, until the man physically attacked him for it. (Google "Rolando Negrin" for the story.) There was another incident at LHR where a male security worker harassed a female coworker about having seen her breasts.

I've seen the photos. (Google "sample backscatter photos") In situations where one body part overlaps another, you can see a definite shadow outline of the flesh; it isn't just a skeletal image.

Privacy is fairly secure for passengers because of the person monitoring the xray screen being in another room, but for workers, there is always the possibility that the person in the monitor room might be told via radio who is going through the scanner at a particular time, if the checkpoint workers know that person.

Thank you somebody gets it. Now imagine being a flight attendant, and having the same creepy tsa workers whispering about the size of your private parts every day as you go through. You are sadly naive if you think this type of stuff does not go on in the workplace. TSA employees are not highly educated, highly paid, profesional people anyway.

You obviously have not read all her posts. I have flown all over the world without going through security or puting my carryons through. Prior to the patriot act this was not an issue. But that is way to complicated to get into for these boards. I am not oppossed to airline employees going through security just the scannings and pat downs in general. I feel they are unnessarry and too invasive. I am glad they make some people feel safer. I just see things a different way. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I will continue to fly for free and enjoy my 40% discount disney and other hotels give airline employees. At least my dh gets something for having to be screened everyday. I am hoping that some day things get so invasive that people will finally say enough. I am afraid people will just to whatever big bro says because after all its for there "own good". I think I have said enough on this subject. I think I'll try to stick to the threads that are about disney. This is the disney boards after all.

I have read the posts...that's what I do here. I just don't see where someone told you, or your dh, to quit and find a new job. It was mentioned that if employees don't like something about their job, they are free to find a new one..happens every day.

Here's the thing.....everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because someone doesn't agree with you does not mean that they 'have a bug up their behind' (which I personally find to be somewhat offensive, but that's another issue)..it means they differ with you. I'm sure that you have had your specific experiences...others have as well. As I said before, this may not be the best way to make the airways more secure. But I have to tell you...if we go back to just plain old metal detectors, we are going to start seeing issues. Plastic explosives are out there...they shouldn't be all that hard to 'hide'..but I'm not an expert, not even close.

But...I will not sit by and have any kind of nasty discussion here. Everyone is welcome to their opinions, but they are not welcome to put others down or insult them. Period.

There have been two cases of people getting explosives on a plane since 911. The shoe bomber and the christmas eve guy this past year. Out of the millions that have flown. The Christmas Eve guy was initially screened somewhere in Africa and did not have to pass through any other screening. Maybe instead of spending millions on this new unproven technology we should work on improving security at all entry points in the world or requiring people traveling from certain parts of the world to go through additional security before they can board a plane traveling to the US.
Its only a matter of time before someone figures out how to swallow a bomb that will go off in X number of hours. Then what, we all have to fast for 12 hours before getting on a plane? For every new technology, there is someone who will figure out how to beat it.

That said, we will be on the opting out line.

Bug up your behind is an insult :lmao:I get that you don't agree with me. You and Maxiesmom Have quoted me over and over to tell me that. I reallly don't want to argue with eithier of you were not going to change each others mind. I get a little testy when asked the same question over and over. I don't think airline empolyees should have to be xrayed or patted down. I have stated my reasons. Thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Enough said.

You must have retired a loooong time ago. The whole reason airline employees have to go through security before boarding aircraft is because a recently terminated airline employee took down an entire plane after smuggling a .44 magnum onboard in an overly-successful effort to take out his former boss.

That was December 7, 1987.

How about just a medal detector thats been good enough up until a few months ago. When I worked for the airlines we were exempt from security. Last time I checked no airline employees have hijacked planes or blown anything up. Airline employees already go through extensive background checks. The difference between an employee and a passenger is the airline employee is subjected to the screening and pat downs everyday. They say the screening aren't harmful, but do you really know that. Why do you have such a bug up your behind about airline employees anyway. When you have to be screened everyday or patted down come back and talk about it. You know where I stand on the issue. Why not just let it go. Something tells me you won't.

Unfortunately not all employees that have access to the aircraft are screened. This creates the weakest link in the security chain.

So while the rest of us are taking off shoes, having our bodies scanned, and being denied that bottle of shampoo because it has too many ounces, there are many people simply bypassing the entire process.

Let us all hope they are always people of good intentions.

No I worked for the airline from 91-93 I was 21. I quit to go to nursing school. I never went through security. We entered a door by baggage claim when out the ramp and up the stairs to the jetway. Everybody did it. When I took flights I put my own bag on the plane. Never put it through security. Things have only changed recently since 911. So your .44 magnum theory doesn't hold water. My Dh works for the airline so I have a pretty good idea how things have changed and how employees feel about it. For me personally not so much of a big deal. I fly for free. I'll do a little dance for them if it makes their day. You guys are the ones that have to pay to be seen naked and I would expect airline taxes and to keep increasing to pay for all these wonderful machines. Happy flying.

Not true all employees are screened now. More so then passengers. Whenever they do one of their silly color coded security increase you know yellow to orange or however it goes. My dh gets the old pat down by the not so straight guy(true story) at security. While other passengers are just randomly picked for pat down.

Sadly, this varies by the airport. There are major airports where security inspection is bypassed simply by displaying or swiping an appropriate I.D.

I will have to verify this my husband. I do think airline employees should go through medal detectors. We don't wan't somebody going postal on a plane. I just have a problem with the whole radiation thing on everyday bases. Of course they tell us its safe. This is what they always say and then 20 years later we find out it causes cancer. Lets just say I don't have a lot of faith in our government when it comes to that sort of thing. Pat downs are a little humilating day after day. I have a feeling they will get rid of those eventually and mandate everybody gets x-rayed.

Respectfully, and at the risk of delving into the forbidden area of politics -- the United States doesn't own or control the world.

Actually, these two incidents involve people attempting but failing to set off explosives they got on board the planes - let's strive for 100% accuracy. While, sure, the Christmas bomber started in Africa, Richard Reid came from England - the same country that discovered and foiled the plan for multiple participants to bring liquid explosives onboard multiple flights several years ago? You all may remember that? ;)

I bet you would be shocked to know there are people on the DIS - heck, on the Transportation board, even on this specific thread - who work for airlines or the TSA and have absolute knowledge (not just married to airline employees, not just with a pretty good idea) how things have changed and how employees feel about the changes.

TSA employees have brought guns through, or around, the security checkpoints. Why don't they get screened?

That was rude.
Never said their wasn't. Why the snarky comment:confused3Are you another one of those people like to irritate others? The only thing I am shocked by is your comment. Not really! By the way what is "absolute knowledge" just curious. You must explain yourself. Don't just dig and dash.

It wasn't intended to be either, merely factual.

Can't explain yourself Huh! Wow! What facts. I guess your one of those drive by posters. Don't tell me your one of those Tsa agents. Sorry I get it I just read your avatar annoying egotistical. I guess that sums it up.

Also factual: Yes, the radiation is minimal, but radiation one is exposed to over your lifetime is cumulative. Why let it add up?

Also...how many terrorists have the TSA caught? ZERO.

The images...those released... I can see that man's genitals better than I want to.

And....all those bottles of water you have to buy at airport prices after security? Those roll right through security. But I thought they were DANGEROUS?
Esp at PDX...all the 'dangerous' liquids get poured into a common, non-secure bin outside of security, for a regular cleaning person to take away. Must not be very dangerous?

For me, a frequent traveller...like I said....I don't want more radiation than is NECESSARY, because I get exposed in flight and at work already. But the first TSA who gropes my hoochie is going to regret it. I'll probably start wearing maxi pads to protect myself.

Those of you with ostomies or prosthetic breasts...hope they make some good choices for how to deal with you. Also with kids...you're going to explain to your kid why some strange non-medical or non-parent man can touch their privates?

When the terrorists start hiding explosives in body cavities, are you willing to have cavity searches?

"Anything for security" is foolish.

If you are a transportion expert. Why don't you enlighten us with your wordly wisdom instead of just posting a sarcastic comment. I'm trying to be nice I don't want to be put in time out again.

The first time I got patted down the tsa got a little close to my hoochies and then she asked me if I had a maxi pad on. I didn't. She looked at me for about 10 seconds then let me go. I was wondering if I was going to have to pull my pants down to prove it. I should have complained to a manager, but I have never complained to a manager about anything so I just let it go. I am so looking forward to the next******* bomber so we can have our cavities searched. You know its coming.

Sounds like you're wanting us to have another terrorist attack so that more people can be killed just to prove your point? How compassionate and kind of you! :sad2:

I've got a better idea - don't like being searched - don't fly. don't like the way the government runs things? leave - go somewhere where they do things more to *your* liking.

I have to say that as someone who is a nervous flyer - someone who HATES to get on a plane (and the only reason I do it is so that my DH doesn't have to drive 15 hours to get us to WDW), security measures make me feel safer about flying.

Also, if you have nothing to hide, then what's the big deal? I'd rather give them 10 seconds of my time, let them take a picture of me that they can't trace back to me, and move on to my gate, than have no security and another 9/11/01 on our hands.

I'm not telling you what to do - I'm not insulting you - I'm just saying that if you don't like it - you have options. It's up to you to decide what you want to do. But if you make a decision to stay here in the US and to continue flying, you're making the choice to either go through the scanners or be pat-down if necessary - just make a choice and stick with it. But don't hope for the worst just to prove a point - that's unecessary and insulting to those who have lost loved ones in the previous terrorist attacks on our country.
