Would we be able to get to drop off family at MCO if we use the South Access Road to the airport or is that for official use only ? Was looking at MS's Live Search and it looks like we could take 417 (Central Florida Greenway). I hate the tolls on Bee Line. Any suggestions ? Dolphin to MCO for evening flights.

The south access road is open to everyone. There are tolls on 417 (Greene Expw'y) too.

You enter the same roadway system around the airport to departure (topmost) or arrival (middle) decks at the airport main building for pickups and dropoffs.

Returning to the airport via I-4 to 528, if you get off 528 (Beach line; Bee line to the beaches; Andersen Expw'y) at its exit 9 Tradeport, left and cross under, *, get into middle lane, then required right onto McCoy, that takes you the last 2 miles to the airport and you paid only one 75 cent toll.

* Nice cheap gas station right there to top off rental cars.

Well then, what do you recommend ? Which way is easier: Central Florida or Bee Line ? Any other route ? Just want to get there and back as expeditiously as possible.

Anybody can come into the south entrance off the Greenway. The Greenway is a toll road, the tolls are actually higher than the Beeline tolls are.

That said it's a much easier road to drive on.

I take 417 all the time to MCO. You may pay a higher toll but no stress and traffic on the road. Much easier than using the Beachline.

Is the South Access Road well marked from 417 ? Easy enough that, well, say a MAN could get there to get his parents BY HIMSELF ???? :lmao: :lmao:

I have always used the Beach Line.

Out the airport north entrance, left at first light, gets to Interchange 9 Tradeport skipping one of the Beach Line tolls going back to Disney.

Yes, a MAN could find his way there and probably even a WOMAN could! LOL. The exit is clearly marked as the Airport exit.

Via TOLL 417 (Greeneway) the tolls add up to $2.00 if you get on at SR536 from Disney World. If you get on further south such as Osceola Parkway or I-4 the tolls would be a bit more. Via TOLL 528 (Beachline) the tolls add up to $1.50.

Not a big difference.

:rolleyes1  OOPS....Thanks BOB !! I would just take SR538 from EPCOT resorts right up to 417 to South Access. I really don't want to have to go with my husband to get his parents (7:45pm arrival) as that the kids want to stay in the parks. If it is really a straight run then he could do it by himself...providing once in the airport it is OBVIOUS !! They are flying MIDWEST. If we would really need a navigator too then I guess we will all go !:rolleyes2

The road I call the "EPCOT Expressway" (real name EPCOT Center Drive) becomes SR536 (not SR538) when it leaves Disney property and 2-3 miles up the road it runs straight in to TOLL 417 which leads direct to the airport's south access. So he can definitely find the airport. (Now whether he can find the car again after he parks it is a separate matter!!)

PS - I meant 536 too. And if you think I would let him park you are nuts !:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I prefer using 417, much less traffic than the Beachline (Beeline) and I-4. I-4 can be a mess.

I use the Beachline unless it's rush hour. (I actually like seeing all the billboards etc.)

Now I am NOT sure how to explain this and hopefully one of the Orlando natives will help, but I exit at the LAST exit before the airport and go back under the Beachline, take a right at the second light and come out on Semoran Blvd. Airport is to the right, Hertz to the left. Since I rent from Hertz this works very well for me.

That's #9 Tradeport/Conway. The maneuver skips a toll plaza as well as being more convenient for Payless Rental customers contrary to Payless' own directions.

Yes, a lot of locals use that old frontage road in order to bypass the Airport Toll Plaza on the Beachline and save $.75. It's convenient for Payless Car Rental (and Payless Parking) as well as the Park to Fly lot. But even if you're headed right to the airport and have the time, it eliminates one toll. The Expressway Authority has been trying for years to get that frontage road closed because of the loss of toll revenue.

BTW....speaking of Semoran Blvd aka SR436, most locals don't even know that the name comes from SEMinole and ORANge counties, the two counties that 436 runs through.

Thanks! I just know where it is, not how to find it!

I actually found it when I stayed at the Old Days Inn there one night after a late flight (SCARY hotel)! The shuttle driver did that to avoid the toll.
