MCO/Magical Express Questions

We have never flown and are flying SW tomorrow to MCO.
We are using the Magical Express trans. to go to POP.
We would like to pick up our own luggage when we arrive at MCO and take it to the ME. Would we just go to baggage claim, then take it to the welcome center? Also, are there any type carts, etc. at MCO we can place all our luggage on instead of us carrying it?

You can get your luggage at baggage claim, and bring it to the welcome center, and MCO does have luggage carts you can use (for a fee).

But, why would you want to? Let Disney get the luggage for you. Just take what you need for the day in a carry on, and the luggage will be delivered to your room that evening. It really is much easier than getting the luggage yourself.

SW baggage claim is at the opposite corner of MCO from the DME welcome desk. You'll have to get your bags, schlep them up back up to level three, go to the opposite corner of the airport then go down to level one.

A lot easier to let Disney handle your luggage. I generally fly SW. I'd take a car service (or rent a car) if I saw the need to get my own luggage.

I wanted to just let them...but my husband wants to make certain we have all our luggage, take it the bus, etc. He thinks some of it may get lost if he lets ME handle it. This is our first trip to disney/flying....so I guess we are both just a little nervous

You can do this. I did it last week as my flight didn't get in until 10 pm and I didn't want someone delivering my bags at 1am.

Unless you are coming in late, I would suggest having Disney do this for you. I have always had them pick up my luggage until last week and have had great success.

I trust ME more than the airlines.

I don't think I've ever read of someone complaining about ME losing luggage. I have read complaints about ME, but never about the luggage delivery.

This is your vacation. Make it as easy on yourselves as possible. Let Disney do the work.

Also, you are paying for Disney to take your luggage for you, whether you let them do it or not (it's incorporated into the room rate).

Another reason to let Disney take care of the luggage: if your room isn't ready yet, you will still get your park tickets and can go and enjoy the theme park for the day (or go to DTD), and when you get back to your room in the evening, your luggage will be there waiting for you.

i can understand being hesitant, it sounds like its too good to be true. we signed up for ME and had our yellow tags - when we dropped them off at our airport when we checked in - we were very nervous. when we got to MCO - we were still nervous. when we checked into the hotel, we were given our room key. we went to our room and dropped some stuff off before heading to the parks. while we were off having fun - we kept saying to eachother, "do you think the bags are in the room yet?"... after all the fun, we finally went back to the room, and sure enough - the bags were there :) it was excellent. we are doing it again on our next trip in october.

i'm sure you've thought it completely out - but if you pick up your bags you're going to be shelling out extra money. first, you'll have to pay for the rental cart. then you'll have to tip the ME driver for taking your bag out of the bus. on top of that - by picking up your bag, you're adding 30-45 mins to your time. if you use the yellow ME tags, you'll be amazed how great it works and how much time it saves you. not to mention not having to lug bags around - what a joy that is!

either way - you'll be at disney and be having a blast! do whatever you're comfortable with - but Disney has nailed guest transportation to a 'T'

I'm sure the OP is on the way to WDW, so this will be for anyone else with the same concerns.
You stand a much greater chance of having your airline misdirect your luggage than DME. Now....we have heard from people who have said that it took hours for their bags to get to their resort and it was DME's fault. BUT.....I'm going out on a limb here and going to say that the holdup was either at the resort level or the airline misdirected the luggage.

I'm going to piggyback off goofy4tink's, PrincessArlena'sDad's, and dpmfloyd's posts, and point out that in just over five years, well over ten million Guests have used Magical Express. I believe I've seen on this forum a report of one person (in over 10,000,000, remember) whose luggage was permanently lost - and while it was likely the airline's fault, Disney/Magical Express accepted responsibility; and a very few where luggage was in the wrong room.

I trust Magical Express with my luggage. Braniff has misdirected it. JetBlue has misdirected it. Heck - even Pop Century "lost" it for several hours when moving me from one building to another. But Magical Express? Never!
