mco gas question

I got gas yesterday at the Hess station on Orange Blossom Trail just off Rt 417 (exit 11) and it was $3.299.
There is also a RaceTrack station off the Landstar Blvd (exit 14) probably about the same price.

Both are easy off and on, but you will need exact change for the tolls at the exits and entrances. The OBT is free to get off and $.75 to get back on 417, and $.50 when you get off the Landstar exit, and no toll to get back on.

The RaceTrack on Landstar Blvd is the last gas station before the airport exit off of 417.

I always use Rt 417 when traveling to and from the airport from the Disney area, never a traffic problem, although it may be $.50 or $.75 more in tolls.

No, what I was wondering was if I get the option with a rental car to return the car empty, what is the current rate the rental car charges per gal?

I don't know currently but it's always been sky high. I'm remembering something like $5.50/gallon when gas was $3 something a gallon. More than we would ever pay, so we don't do it.

Buying a tankful up front and returning the car "empty" is almost never a good deal. There will almost certainly be at least 2 gallons still in the tank when you get back.

The price per gallon the station charges you would have to be something like 50 cents a gallon less than out on the street for the tankful up front to have a prayer (not a certainty) of saving you money.

Note: If you don't buy the tankful and bring the car back less than full, you are charged something like twice as much per gallon.

Coming back to the airport via I-4 east to 528 (Beach Line) east, get off 528 at its exit 9 (Tradeport). Left and cross under. Nice cheap gas station is right there on the left.

Leaving the gas station from the back side, take two lefts to get back on the main drag north. Get into middle lane, required right onto McCoy east, next light little more than a mile is 436 (Semoran). Right to enter the airport.

In October it was like 3.17 a gallon thru Alamo I believe

I can't believe that, isn't that cheaper than gas was at gas stations in October? Like I said, we never do it, but I clearly recall once talking to the person at the counter about it when picking up our car and it was dollars more than the regular price. Maybe I am remembering what seashoreCM said above about returning it less than full when you don't take the gas deal in advance.

In March at Budget car rental the pre-paid tank of gas was actually a few cents per gallon cheaper than the stations around Sea World and Disney. I forgot the actual amount. I like the convenience of not having to fill up the tank upon returning the car. Like a PP said, there's always a gallon or two left in the tank even if the needle is on empty, but I'm willing to overlook this.

I've been doing this for several years in various cities. In the past, it was true that the rental agencies' pre-paid price was significantly higher than the norm in the area. But most now seem to have very competitive prices. You can use an app to find out what average gas prices are at your destination.

Now, if you DON'T arrange for the pre-paid tank of gas and return it less than full, the price IS outrageous.

That's why we got it. When we left home gas here was over 3.50 a gallon, not knowing what we were going to encounter price wise in the Disney area I just opted for it.

Just looked and Alamo is quoting $3.50 a gallon and that is an approximate price based on the market price at the time of pick up

But the prepaid fuel cost is subject to additional taxes, rate is over 17%.
You can't win, even if you run out gas on the return line.

And don't they charge you for a full tank of gas even if you return with 3/4 of a full tank? It's not a top off to full. It's a regular tank of gas which could easily be $50 if you drive a full size car.

They don't offer refunds for unused gas. It is clearly stated when you chose that option.

That is what they charge IF you don't return the car full and have not taken the prepay gas option. They usually are within .50 per gallon for the prepay option.

If you can coast in in fumes the rental car gas is a good deal, but most of us can't do that. Think about it. If your gas tank holds 20 gallons when was the last time you actually put 20 gallons in

Two weeks ago we paid $3.19 to come back empty when on the outside it was higher. We came back very empty so it worked out for us.

NO you paid $3.74 / gallon. Add airport 10% then sales tax. When the low fuel light comes on you generally have at least 2 gallons of fuel left.
