MCO - Do they have TSA full body scanners ?

on the up side, you can leave your shoes on for the body scanner ( at least that is what the media report so it must be true :rolleyes1)
I'll know more after the are installed at ORD ( O'Hare)

Privacy issues ?

I would do a full body scanner anytime asked. I have nothing to hide.

EL-AL, an Israel airline has never had a terrorist attack because their secuirty for flying is top notch. If you do not comply with the security check -then you can not fly on EL-AL.

If USA airlines had the same kind of secuirty which EL-AL does - we would not have any terrorists on our planes.

And you do realize that no "bombers" or other terrorists have yet been caught by a machine anywhere in the world. That's a point that Israeli security experts make regularly.

FOR THE LAST TIME, THEY DO NOT STRIP SEARCH YOU! There are NO CLOTHES removed, the image is grainy at best and it does help detect items on a person's body that cannot be detected through the current machines in place (but could be via a pat down). The machine just replaces the physical contact with an image.

You are misinformed about the quality of the image . . . I'd post one here, but since "naughty bits" are viewable, it would be pulled.

TSA is telling the media that, and it ought to be the case. But, sadly it is not yet true. Your shoes gat xrayed before you use the nude-o-scope. Maybe in time????

I called MCO...

....MCO also said anyone who goes through the security gate, will also have to go through the TSA Full Body Scanner :thumbsup2

:goodvibes Yeah for MCO security :goodvibes

I hope the JetBlue security area uses the TSA Full Body Scanners.

Now I hope non-international airports get the TSA Full Body Scanners too, such as SWF and LGA.

As noted El-AL has been sucessful NOT by mechanical detection, but by behavior observation & profiling. These machines will not put flight safety at 100% - nothing will.

OP - how will the body scanners help if a terriorist decides to take down an airecraft with a shoulder launched missle?

For that matter, how do you work up the courage to enter a theme park?? From a risk exposure stand point you're WAY more likely to get waxed at a park than in a plane.

Your choices are pretty simple. Follow the procedures as they are in place---which means using the scanners as deployed or asking for a manual search---or find some other way to get where you are going.

I'm all for getting where I am going quickly, and I don't particularly care if some TSA agent wants a look-see at my middle-aged, overweight self, so I'll opt for the scanners. Anyone with thirty seconds and an internet connection can find representative images for themselves, and the level of detail is not sufficient to concern me, even on behalf of my children.

If you're not happy with the direction TSA is going, you'll probably get more results writing to your congressional representatives than you will complaining here on the DIS.

Exactly! A co-worker of mine just got back from a trip to Great Britian.
Her family went thru the scanners in Detroit. She said it shows a generic body image, not an image of your body. Her hubby had something in his pocket that the scanner picked up on. She saw the image and said it just places the object the scanner picks up on a generic body to give them an idea of where to look. It does not take a pic of your nude body! It is not a virtual strip search.

Are you (and others) aware of the technological failings of whole body imaging?

Are you aware of the failings of the other scanning and checking systems in place? This is just another measure, one that is not invasive as someone touching your body, but can give similar results. No scanning is perfect, and although I agree they give some people some false securities, as of right now, until we get to the point of Total Recall, I think it's the best there is.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, is going to be 100% effective. At least nothing I've heard of yet. El Al does a great job...we could take a lesson, but our sensitive sensibilities would be offended...wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. So, we make do with what we have available. None of it is perfect.
I think we need to do more 'observing', stick more dogs in the terminals, allow a lot less carryon stuff on board and reduce the checked bag fees so people will go back to checking luggage. Then, put some security in the screening areas so that baggage screeners won't be so apt to get sticky fingers. Of course, we as passengers need to understand that nothing should get checked if you can't afford to lose it. If you need to bring something with you and they won't allow it through as carryon, then they need to give you a claim receipt for it and you can claim it when you land.

Now that we have blonde, American women coming along with terrorist ties, no one should be exempt from as complete a screening as possible. And those who have posted about body cavities...yep, absolutely right. There are people out there, who look just like you and me, that will have no problem having explosives surgically placed in their bodies so as to hurt as many Americans as possible. They have no problem blowing themselves up in the process. So...no, nothing we have in place yet, is going to be 100% effective.
No amount of argument here is going to achieve anything.

Ugh. It appears that I'm gonna getting patted down every time I go to WDW now. I absolutely detest those machines, and trust absolutely nothing the TSA has said about their solving the privacy issues.

It seems ridiculous to me that people would so willingly bend over backwards for this reactionary measure that offers little added security benefit.

I am a very big privacy advocate - but I am fine with these machines. How can anyone be identified? I have watched the news, the videos, etc - all the people look the same!

At a planned cost of $3 billion, the only ones to benefit over this latest bit of security theatre will be companies like L-3 Communications. The scanners do not see into body cavities or under folds of flesh, rendering them useless. Even the Government Accountability Office has stated that the scanners may not have thwarted the Underpants Bomber.

As for safety, the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety which includes the European Commission, International Atomic Energy Agency, Nuclear Energy Agency and the World Health Organization, has stated that children and pregnant women should not be subject to these machines.

Very much so. ;)

The first time I'm faced with one of these I swear I'll dress in my best Derrick Smalls outfit.

You WANT to get to Total Recall "security? Are you nuts? (Rhetorical question not a personal attack.)

This isn't good enough for you?

I'll opt for the patdown with the warning to the patter, "you better not like this."

I was noticing on this post that Little Rock Airport is listed as ROC. The code for Little Rock airport is LIT. I live in Rochester New York and our airport is ROC. And yes, much to my dismay we do have those full body scanners.:3dglasses:eek:

Does the MCO airport in Orlando have TSA full body scanners to use at the airport security area ?

From Fox News website:
The Transportation Security Administration is looking to increase the number of full-body scanners at U.S. airports over the next few years
AND
Experts say full-body scanners are much more effective than the metal detectors commonly in use at airports, which have no capacity to detect explosives. And they say a lot of the privacy issues have been solved.

I would love for MCO to have them for my peace-of-mind.

Does anyone know when MCO will get a Full Body Scanner or are they at MCO already ?

The list of airports I found on the web with TSA full body scanners is:
ABQ(Albuquerque)
ATL (Atlanta)

BWI (Baltimore)

CLE (Cleveland)

DCA (Washington DC)

DEN (Denver)

DFW (Dallas-Ft. Worth)

DTW (Detroit)

IAH (Houston)

IND (Indianapolis)

JAX (Jacksonville)

JFK (New York City)

LAS (Las Vegas)

LAX (Los Angeles)

MIA (Miami)

PHX (Phoenix)

RDU (Lafayette)

ROC (Little Rock)

RIC (Richmond, Va)

SFO (San Francisco)

SLC (Salt Lake City)

TPA (Tampa)
TUL (Tulsa)

I don't mind the scanners, I'm not shy and don't have anything to hide.

I like the pat downs.. sometimes its the best action I have seen in a while :rotfl:.
I personally dont mind the scanners. Like a PP said if someone wants to look at my child bearing almost forty body then go for it...BUT... honestly.. I am not fond of the idea of my child going thru this. I know its a grainy image but in the posted pic I could see his " naughty bits". Security or not.. I dont want anyone to see my daughters naughter bits even if for a few seconds. The thought makes me ill... so we will opt for the pat down also.
