Hi...Flying with my DS earlier than the DH(work), my son and I will be taking the rental car. We go every year but DH drives and I honestly do not pay attention to the route.

My question is it a fairly easy drive from the airport to the resorts, meaning are there lots of signs and such as to where to go?:thumbsup2

LOTS of signs. Lots and lots. :)

Is your son old enough to be a good navigator? I hope so, because it makes it so much easier if you have one sign reader and one driver.

Thanks for responding...been a little worried...DS is 12 so time to start...Heck if we can navigate getting through Magic Kingdom during a parade, I hope we can this...

LOVE SIGNS :thumbsup2:wizard:

I have taken both the easy way (all Highway) and the side streets (only 8 more minutes) to get to and from Disney & MCO. Remind the driver to have plenty of TOLL money I just take a roll of Quarters.

We have taken multiple trips to WDW and our last trip this past Nov. we rented a van for our first time. We had no problems whatsoever getting to WDW and back it was about a half hour ride each way. I recommend taking route 417 it was the quickest way to WDW. As for the tolls we used the prepaid option with our rental.
I also Google maped the airport and just did a street view and had myself become familiar with the route I would be taking.

Oh good, 12 is good. My guy is 8...first problem is that he's in the back seat still, LOL.

I think we've still only taken 417 away from the airport, and we took the other way (528?) back to the airport once. So I really only know 417, but yes, IMO it's easy. (I'm generally the navigator) Key is to stay to the right so you have easy access to the toll areas and don't freak out and miss them. Have money for the tolls (we have a ton of ones and quarters anyway) and it'll be fine.

fireman's idea of studying street view is a good one, too. There's nothing like having seen the route before!

Now I do find it a bit nerve-wracking to get OUT of the airport, but with many airports it's just a big circle, so as long as you don't go through any "do not enter" areas (as we did once, LOL, at MCO, we went into the area for taxis, but even they had a method to get out once you read their small signs) you can pretty much just circle around. Know where you're going, know basically where you are, read the signs.

Now I've made it sound scary while trying to let you know it'll be OK. It'll be OK. 12 is awesome, it'll give him great practice for 4 years from now when he's getting his permit, etc etc.

Take 417 from the South entrance. That way you have a quieter drive and don't have to travel on I4 which is often a mess. Make sure you use exit 6 to Disney from the 417. It takes you directly into WDW without having to pay an extra toll. Once inside the gate the Disney signage will take you easily anywhere in WDW.

The 417 signage suggests you go past exit 6. That's totally unnecessary and takes you to an exit with an additional 50 cent toll. Misleading since exit 6 becomes Epcot Drive and had no extra toll.

I agree, I always use 417, very easy drive.

That's been our route as well. You will find there is plenty of very good signage. The state of Florida realizes that their pocketbooks depend on tourists, so they make it pretty easy to get around the popular areas. You will find that between Disney and the state, you will have little trouble finding your way from MCO to WDW!!! And yes, it takes about 30 mins.

Are there signs at the airport as your leaving for the 417? So take south exit from airport or exit airport and look for south 417?

Thank you very much!
