Mcdonalds lunch disappointment

I'm not the only one here who likes McDonald's am I? I mean, I don't/can't eat it every day lest I way 200+ pounds, but I really do think that the quarter pounder with cheese and their fries are mighty tasty. Not exactly a steak house burger, but tasty nonetheless. :confused3

I like McDonalds. My fav for a fast food treat is Wendy's, but I like McDonald's single cheeseburgers. It's the only time I will ever eat ketchup. I also like this burger they had out last year that was on a different kind of bun with bacon, cheese, pickles, & red onions on it. I forgot the name of it, but it was a part of some "premium burger" series they had going on. Haven't been there since I got pregnant, so I'm not sure if they still sell it. It was really good though.... & actually visually appealing.

ETA: I think it was called an angus burger?

Now the one thing I have heard of is the use of cigarette smoke in place of steam. It shows up better than trying to use real steam.

Yep, that's probably one of the oldest tricks in the book about food ads. Those Butterball Thanksgiving turkeys are smoking a whole pack of Marlboros at once.

I have always thought this should be illegal. Burger king doesn't even use the same lettuce as in the photographs.
Lisa

I don't think my company uses the same lettuce or other ingredients as depicted in its ads either. Or maybe they do, but the ad lettuce and tomato is top of the line and carefully selected and posed, and the product actually used is the cheapest stuff available.

I really respect a certain regional supermarket. The photos on their store brand packages don't appear to be staged, enhanced or doctored, but rather an actual photo of what the product looks like when prepared as directed. The photo on their brand of Hamburger Helper looks like dog vomit.

At least she's honest about the procedure. The lady in the video is admitting the actual product looks like crap and they don't want to gross people out by featuring the actual product in their ads.

Plus you don't really need to see the pickles and onions to eat the burger. I'd actually prefer that they stay under the bun, and not hang out over the edge.

Arby's was great. The last one here went belly up about 6 months ago. They were HUGE here 35 years ago, but nobody every seemed to go there anymore.

What I don't get is the BOOM in Mexican fast food places. If you are familiar with the intersection of Manzanita and Fair Oaks in Carmichael California, there are literally 4 Mexican restaurants in 1 block, 2 on one side of the road, 3 on the other.

Daughter lives Madison/Dewey area. What I've been seeing lately is Mexican counters in gas stations (like a miniature fast food in a gas station)

I think there is an Arbys still open my way off Walerga.

All this fast food talk makes me think of this pic lol

Ouch! I was in McDonald's recently and saw that same poster. I was tempted, got distracted and ended up ordering something else from the dollar menu. (yes I actually forgot that existed by the time I was ready to order, I am that scatterbrained).

From the looks of that, I didn't miss out on much.

I've had it 3 times since it came out. The ones I've had were pretty good, and they were overloaded with the jalapenos... so many I had to pull a few out. They must use very mild peppers though, not very hot.

Not the healthiest lunch, but $3 for a burger and large drink is OK.

"My" McDonalds may be an outlier though. They have gotten really good since the Chick-filet came in next door to show them how it's supposed to be done.

Yes! This is why the McD's single cheeseburger is the ideal "eat-in-the-car food." The sandwich sticks together and nothing drips out of it. Not at all healthy, not especially tasty, but very practical:)

Lately the buns from my nearest McD's haven't been the freshest, I figure it was just that location. Last week I was on the road and found the same issue at a store 150 miles away. They must go through hundreds of buns daily, you'd think they wouldn't have any problem keeping the supply fresh.:confused3

My DH decided to splurge and have Mcdonalds for lunch at work today. He just sent me this side by side comparison of the advertisement vs what he actually got-what a letdown! He says he is sticking to Wendys next time he wants a treat for lunch. ;)

Oddly enough, I had a similar experience at Wendy's with "The Baconator".

One year when we drove to Florida from NH we stopped at an Arby's. When we were done eating my youngest said to me that that was the best burger he ever ate. I looked at him weird and told him it wasn't a burger, it was roast beef. :confused3 He looked up at me and said "But I don't like roast beef." Cracked us up. I think he was like 5.
To this day still as soon as he gets here his first stop is an Arby's. When he flew down for a visit earlier this month he was thrilled he had a layover in Baltimore because there's an Arby's in the airport. :rotfl:

Poor excuse for "roast beef" is why. :lmao:

I do like some stuff at Arby's, but if I want a FF roast beef, give me Lion's Choice :thumbsup2

No, you're not the only one, but it seems like whenever a thread about McDonalds or other fast food restaurants shows up all the fast food haters come out of the woodwork and let you know just how much fast food is an assault on humanity. One would think based solely on internet threads that nobody eats fast food, but since it is a multi billion dollar industry, clearly that's not the case.

Anyway, it is funny when the actual product looks so different from the advertisement, but not surprising. This has been going on since the beginning of food advertisement! Food styling is a rather fascinating business. I remember when Food Network had a food styling competition, which was when I was first introduced to the fact that they do all sorts of crazy and inedible things to the food in order to make it look good for photographs. Everything from spraying it with Windex to putting sesame seeds on a bun one at a time with tweezers. I wish Food Network would do another one of those shows, but then maybe they decided that they didn't want the practice of food styling to become common knowledge.

Freaky. I'm the exact same way. I don't eat ketchup with fries, on hot dogs, or on anything other than my McDonald's burger, either. I've never met anyone else like that. Glad to know there is another out there. :goodvibes

Yeah, I like fast food. Then again, I like most food. One would never call me a foodie. But yeah, I'll eat McDonald's, Whataburger, Wendy's, Sonic, Schlotzsky's, Spangles, Chicken Express, Chick-fil-a, and just about anything else. Again, not everyday and I wouldn't say it is the best food out there; however, for a quick meal, I have no problem with it.
