McDonalds around the world...?

I do think in Germany many ate mayo with their fries at McD. And yes, beer can be found most anywhere. We were there 3 years, so once in awhile, McD. was needed! ::yes::
On the McDonald's website you can go to other countries sites.

In Singapore, they had some special "burger" of the month that I didn't trust the description enough to order it. :o

Tokyo's McD's was good, as was ones in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile. One main reason was that their fries were cooked the way they used to cook them in the US -- in animal lard (none of that vegetable oil for them!)

Somehow, the Quarter Pounder I had in Utrecht, Holland was just like the rest of the food I had there that week -- bland and tasteless. :p

I've eaten at McD's in England, France, and Amsterdam. I don't really remember anything out of the ordinary except the mayo on fries thing in Amsterdam.

They just started the cheese steak thing around here too.

I try not to eat at Mcdonals's outside of the US, because I like to try the local food. I do check out the menu's sometimes. The one thing different I remember was a McLamb sandwich which I think was in Australia.

Chinese food often makes a big adjustment for local taste. One time in Germany had an egg roll filled with sauerkraut instead of regular cabbage like here.

Here in the Netherlands they sell something at McDonalds that is called McKroket. A kroket is a typically Dutch snack that is difficult to describe. It is like ragout (do you know that in the US?) with breadcrumbs around it and they fry it in hot oil. They serve it on a bun with mustard. Doesn't it sound delicious?
And everybody here eats their fries with mayonaise and not with ketchup. Don't think they sell Dr. Pepper here, that's not common at all.

Wow. These are all very interesting. I wish they'll try some of these alternatives here in US too. I'd love to try mayo on fries, and McKroket (sounds like dougnuts). I think I'll love it. (I also grew up on pineapple & corns on Pizza Hut's pizza... I really miss that, it's very good).

Oh, one more thing..... McDonalds here in NYC deliver too. That normally surprised our out-of-town friends, but it's great if you wake up at 10:55am and want to order Mickey D's breakfast by 11am's deadline.

Another thing I really missed is Mc Ribs. They are delicious! Why don't they have it here?

We have them here - at the moment. They bring them back every so often. A lot of the McDonald's here are franchised. I wonder if the owner of the franchise has any input into what is on the menu?

I remember eating krokets! We got them in little shops with massive vending machine type things except real people were behind them keeping them filled. Dutch mayonnaise is good too.

It's been a very long time since I've been to Amsterdam and I thought that they had more toppings for their fries. But I might have seen that elsewhere.

No no you are right. Dutch people eat very strange things with their fries but it is not sold at McDonalds. They only have mayonaise and ketchup.
But the other snackstores, the Dutch ones (with the vending machines) sell things like peanutsauce, currysauce, raw onions, stewed meat with their fries. And even a combination of all these.:teeth:
Oh it is such a culinary country, the Netherlands.

Germany had mayo with the fries too. lol, I'm boring, just give me catsup.

We just started Philly Cheesesteak in our store (pain in the butt to make, but tasty too). We have Eggnog Shake and Holiday Custard Pies, as well.

JDY,
Most of the time they do not. We went to corperation last June, previously we were M&J (Inventors of the Big Mac). Basicly, special food is done regionally (Pittsburgh got McRib, but Cleavland got Chicken Strips, ect).

I've seen more Burger Kings in my travels than McD's. The menu hardly varies in BK. I've been to them throughout the Caribbean and in London.

The best meals we had in Moscow were at TGIFriday's and at McDonalds. Just imagine eating just horrible, not to your taste food for 2 weeks and then spending 4 days in a hospital in Moscow with your sick child. When asked what you'd like to eat on the last day of the hospital stay, you remember that there is a McD's in the area. You ask if the hospital has a courier who could run for burgers for you. You'll pay whatever they want for him to do this for you. Now, imagine how good that taste of home is. Mmm... cheeseburger royale with fries and a chocolate shake. For good measure, you also buy a coke. At that point, your favorite gourmet meal wouldn't have tasted as good.

A few days later, we were staying in a hotel, our last full day in Moscow. My DH took one look at the breakfast buffet at the hotel and decided to cross the street to get McD's. He found out that they didn't serve breakfast foods there. They only served burgers and fries. He had a big mac and fries for breakfast that morning and felt the same level of comfort that I had several days earlier.

And, that, my friends, is why we often-times eat fast food when we're not in this country.... just for the taste of home.

I had a mexican chicken sandwich, which was pretty good, considering it was at the base of the acropolis in athens last year. They also had heineken on the menu, among others.

I don't remember anything real different on the menu in london, although bacon is "english style". we would call it canadian bacon.

I do the TGIF, applebees, chilis, and hard rocks too, just to have a bit of home. Of course, when in London, I have to do the Texas Embassy :)

The applebees in athens was the only place I could find the AB Budweiser. The other Bud was all over though. Do the TGIF's in London just to get some good grease and a cold beer.

I did do a McD's in Geneva about two years ago. pay for the ketchup there as well. Nothin like sitting outside, looking at the lake, eating McD's. I think they had lake perch at that location.

You know, we do have mayo here. And they won't stop you if you dip your fries in it. I do that every once in a while.

Ok, call me weird, but I love to mix mayo and ketchup together for my fries. yum. :teeth:

Using American mayo isn't bad but do keep in mind that European mayo is quite a bit different though. It's much richer and tastier, and probably much more unhealthy. ;)
