Let me first apologize if this has been asked and answered (repeatedly), but there are tons of MB threads and I just don't know which one MIGHT contain this information.

Question is -- Do you have to keep your MB on when going through security? I thought I heard that it cannot be put in the bins and on the belt to go through the scanner. Can anyone tell me the procedure for going through security with the MBs?

Again, sorry if this has been repeatedly asked.

Thanks!

Jeanette

In terms of the MB, it doesn't matter. Just do as instructed by TSA and all will be fine.

I haven't seen this question...but it doesn't matter. I would just keep it on to avoid losing it. Or pack it away in a carryon. The equipment they use at security will do nothing to the RFID chip in the bands, nor will it be picked up as metal.

Just put it in a bag.

There's no problem putting them through the scanner anyway. They might make you take it off and put it through if they don't understand what it is. The scanner will not affect the band at all.

Why would you be wearing your MB before you are even in Orlando, or after you've left the resort?

The only reason I would have it on is because I heard that it could not go through the belt scanner. That's why I'm asking this question. I wanted to be certain that we can just have them in our carry-on bag and not worry about it affecting the RFID chip or the information stored on the band. If we couldn't just put them in the carry-on, then we would be wearing them.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate everyone's input.

My DD and I had it in our carry-ons. Then when we landed at MCO, we put them on. No problems with the information being messed up. You will need to scan them three times prior to boarding a ME bus.

Thanks DisneyRunner. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again everyone for the information!

Thanks good to know, I will make sure we do not put them in checked luggage

just curious do you need MB for DME?

We used our bands to check in for ME (after going through scanner in out Carry on bag) but saw plenty of people using paper voucher that comes in the mail with your luggage tags. But for coming back onME to Airport you MUST use the paper they drop off at your room the day before. Saw lots of people when we were leaving asking the bus driver if they could just scan their band. The bus driver said no that they needed the paper.

Yes, but I've heard they are still accepting the vouchers too.

They HAVE to still accept vouchers because people who do not book early will not get the bands until they check in at the resort.

I late January, had not linked my bands yet and, in fact, had not even received a voucher because of my late booking. I went tot he desk and picked up a voucher and went through everything with only that and, for the life of me, cannot see any reason to use the bands.

I think that Disney is saying to have the bands on for MDE to increase the hype around the bands.

And, back to the original question, my bands went through security in my carry on with no problems.

From what I have read scanning your MB at the airport actually activates your stay if you have done online check in. Eventually, you may not have to stop at the check in desk at the resort at all. They will text you that your room is ready.

Mine went through belt. When we got on DME, I used a MB, my mom used her paper voucher.

On the way to WDw, ours were in carry on luggage. So the scanner is not an issue. TSA may ask you to remove it, but I'm betting the MCO staff knows what it is, if you put it on during your flight.

On our return home, I still had mine on my wrist. I had a long sleeve shirt on, and did not remove it until we got home.

We joked about whether we were allowed to take it off when we got home. They are your passport/cc/room key in one.

But if you take it off when you get home, how will Disney know where you live, what time you eat, where you like to shop....?

xray doesn't mess with it. If it did, there's almost no way to get it to Orlando by plane (unless you wear it through), because checked bags get xrayed, too.

We wear ours from the time we leave the house only because we want to make sure we don't leave them behind. The kids love putting them on once we leave the house as it puts them in "we're on our way" mode. We participate and wear ours too. At the airport, we put them in the bins just as we do belts and shoes. DD2 and DD9 have worn them through without issues. TSA did not say anything and we simply put ours in the bins to be on the safe side.
