MB and airport security

I just kept mine in my backpack and put it on while on the plane. You need it to check in to Disney's Magical Express, so make sure you have them on before you get there.

I wore mine through security. To me it was easier than digging through my carry on for it or a voucher to checkin with DME. TSA did ask me what it was, but then told me to proceed, when I told them. That was when they were fairly new. Now most TSA agents have probably seen at least one. LOL

The Magic Band is nothing more than a big bracelet with an RFID chip in it. There are library cards with RFID chips in there. Same with library books. I don't think most people would consider those a risk.

I just read today that credit card companies are researching and investing money in RFID technologies. Would that mean all credit cards need to be removed before boarding a plane? I also can envision airline tickets being RFID engraded in the near future (no data on that so please don't say I said that was happening now).

RFID is becoming the "new thing". I can also see drivers' licenses having these so all the cop needs to do is pull you over, scan the license and have your complete history instead of having to go back to the car and research it. Heck - RFID might even be on license plates so the cop knows all about you before he/she exits the vehicle.

And, for the conspiracy theorists, it would be available to all online to read their own history so if you had something on your record that wasn't cleared, you could challenge that.

Our Magic Bands have been through the airport scanners multiple times with no effect whatsoever. I wonder how these rumors get started.

No conspiracy theory. Cops use license plate readers these days. Probably not all cops, but many departments have them. So if they have one, they know all about you - or at least your car- just by scanning your plate number.
The first one I see online goes for a mere $240.00.

Then again, they are also installed on streets. That's basically how the Florida Turnpike works. If you don't have Sun Pass, they just read the plate number and send a bill. All you have to do is drive by the plate reader.

The only reason I would have it on is because I heard that it could not go through the belt scanner. That's why I'm asking this question. I wanted to be certain that we can just have them in our carry-on bag and not worry about it affecting the RFID chip or the information stored on the band. If we couldn't just put them in the carry-on, then we would be wearing them.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate everyone's input.

Mine went thru scanner both ways attached to backpack, no issues.

just curious do you need MB for DME?
I used mine to get on ME bus and it was 5000 times easier than digging thru papers to find voucher while dragging 2 suitcases a laptop and carryon bag

Very true and to point out, it's just not Florida. We have company credit cards for our salespeople and we are a national company. I am the lucky one who gets to see all this information. This is how all states are doing tolls now. If you rent a car, the rental company just applies the tolls to the credit card you used for renting the car.

I would say in the next five years, we will be "flash and go" America.

Let me first apologize if this has been asked and answered (repeatedly), but there are tons of MB threads and I just don't know which one MIGHT contain this information.

Question is -- Do you have to keep your MB on when going through security? I thought I heard that it cannot be put in the bins and on the belt to go through the scanner. Can anyone tell me the procedure for going through security with the MBs?

Again, sorry if this has been repeatedly asked.

Thanks!

Jeanette

In October I put mine in the bin with the electronics, and it went through the scanner no problem. YMMV?

All I know it, when I walk through that scanner the only thing I have out is my ID just in case, and I do everything they say so there's no fuss, and no problems. Last thing I want is to be held up in airport security for a goofy move.
