Mazatlan, Mexico

Hi Frank
Also interested in resorts. I have contacted the El Cid Castilla hotel and they say that as long as we buy food and drink we can use their pool. Is this a good hotel? I have heard of the "Playa" hotel is it better. Also someone mentioned about day rooms there. Any information on that. Any information will be great!!! Thanks

Hi Frank
I loved your picture of the Magic in Mazatlan, where were you when you took it? Is it somewhere we will go when we tour with you on the 3rd August?
It's getting so close now I can't wait :goodvibes

What's the weather like right now? I know it's hot, but is it sunny or overcast?

I feel better now that some of you started asking Thanks!!!! :wave2:

CHERTA Thank you for the nice comments. Yes the El Cid is the biggest Hotel in Mazatlan. They have 4 Hotels. Granada (on the Country club side), Castilla, El Moro (on the beach side) and the Marina (on the Marina side). The one you would go to is Castilla (pronounced - cast eya, I think :confused3 ). I did mention in a previous note that as long as you eat and drink, no problem. You could also get a day pass at the docks, but you must go thru there timeshare thing and I do not think you want to lose time, unless you are planning on buying. A taxi from the terminal to El Cid should take around 20 minutes (deppending on traffic and Taxi driver, maybe 5 minutes, hahaha, just kidding :rotfl2: ) The cost is around 10 - 12 US dollars. Ask first before getting in. They do not have a meter, but more or less that is the cost.

GoofyontheHiSeas El Cid is 5 star and the Playa is 4 star. Personally, I like the Playa more. Although the pool is bigger and nicer in El Cid. You can probably see pictures of the Hotels at their websites:

LynnTarrant The picture was taken from Ice Box hill. Yes, I take people up there, when we go in a van. I am also looking forward in meeting you in August! :)

Have a great weekend!

Ppiglet: The weather in the past week has been HOT :bitelip: In the morning overcast but around noon, Sunny and nice, but hot. It is time to go to the Beach :)

You are almost here! Time goes fast. I am not sure this will be possible, but maybe we have a chance to meet and say hello when you come to Mazatlan. I might be busy, but if we both have time maybe it is possible. Maybe if I give you my cel phone number.........

Have fun!

We are thinking about doing Randi's Happy Horses during our August sailing. My kids are 4 and 6. Do you think it will be too hot for the children? Do you have any other beach/pool suggestion for us? Are there alot of jellyfish?

Thanks,

Kathy

Kathy,
we are doing randi's happy horses in august! our DSs are 3 & 6! i'm hoping it'd be ok. you should hurry & book wih ranid's, if you are really interested! when in august are you sailing? :flower:

I would recommend that you go with her. She takes kids that are very young and they really enjoy. It might be hot, but it will be hot anywhere you go. The good part is that you can go into the water to cool off. I do recommend that you book soon because she has had large groups. Randi is great!
Another thing is that the Carnival Pride is changing days. From thursday, they are moving to Wednesday. The same day the Magic comes in. We were happy with 2 days of ships, now it's one day with two ships and that will be all summer. The good side is that we will be getting these ships in summer, instead of no ships, so we will not worry and be happy :)

I do not recall if I mentioned this before, but in case you do not know I will say it again.
Mazatlan is also a Commercial port. The docks where the cruiseships dock are the same ones where the Cargo ships dock. There is a lot of traffic sometimes in that area, so for your own safety, the Port authorities have these shuttles that take you from the ship to the Passengers terminal building. Now if you are taking a sponsored tour from the ship, the tour busses will be there, by the ship. If you are taking a non sponsored tour, or a taxi, or just want to walk, you must take these mandatory shuttles (they are free and travel back and forth every 5 minutes or less).
The passengers terminal building is where you get the taxis and is the gate to the street. Inside the area, there are Jewelry stores, internet access, arts & crafts, pharmacies and many shops.
Have fun!

Frank:

As Chris said, thank you for such a wonderful day last week. We all truly enjoyed meeting you and spending the day touring Mazatlan with you. It was so nice being in a small group of 9 versus a bus load of who knows how many people.

We are proud to say that Frank's tour of Mazatlan is the best there is. If anyone wants more information on what we did/saw, please PM me and I will be glad to answer any questions I can.

Frank, thanks again for a lovely day last week.

Gail, John, Tyler and Toby

This is my main satisfaction. I feel so good when I make people happy. Thank you both for the wonderful comments. I really hope we can meet again in the future. I wish you and your families the best. Gracias!

Have a nice week!

Hi Frank-
My family is traveling on the Magic and will be arriving on July 6th. Currently we have reserved a Stone Island excursion through DCL, but I've been hearing a lot about Jellyfish and their "eggs" stinging people. We were looking for a fun beach day (some shopping of course too) while we are in Mazatlan. Kids are 11, 9, and almost 5. Any recommendations? With current conditions, is Stone Island still a good idea?

A little late but here is my answer. Yes there has been a little bit of a jellyfish problem. There was some today but somedays there is none. It might be a matter of luck. If you do not want to go to the beach, maybe a waterpark is the solution. If so, go to Mazagua, way up north Mazatlan. About a 40 minute taxi ride. They charge $90pesos (less then $9US). I was there Sunday with my kids and it is very nice. By the way, they do take credit cards.
Another choice would be to go to a Hotel and use their facilities. Or, visit the Mazatlan Aquarium.
I hope these ideas helped a bit.

Hi Frank,
We don't have any excursions planned for our day in Mazatlan. I think DH and the kids (12 & 10) might like to go to a beach and a pool. Your recommendation for Hotel Playa is probably right for us. Is that in the Golden Zone? I hope so because I'd like to see the shopping areas. If not, how far is it?

Thanks.
Kelley

I think you will enjoy the Playa very much. It has a nice pool and also a nice beach, although there have been Jellyfish. Maybe you are lucky and by then there are no Jellyfish :) Anyways the Playa is right in the middle of the Golden zone ( shopping). As you leave the Playa, turn to your left and you are in the action zone.

Have fun amigos!
