Mazatlan, Mexico

Thanks Frank - I never wouold have suspected that there was codine in vanilla

I have heard this from several tourists. The Orlando brand says that it does not have it and that it is organiclly grown. Hope this helps!

Have a great evening and week!

The Mexican vanilla that I use and really like is the "FLORIDA" brand. It says on the label 'Does not contain COUMARIN'.

Here are a couple of things I have found on Coumarin:
Coumarin is found in many plants, including lavender, woodruff, and sweet clover; ... Coumarin smells like vanilla but what little flavor it has is bitter. ...
Coumarin derivatives are used widely as anticoagulants...

I thank you very much for the explanation. I think I misspelled the word. I hope that this explanation helps everyone and sorry for the confussion. Muchas gracias.

In case you want to take some Tequila back, I have noticed that the best prices are at Casa Arias, Sams Club and Walmart. One of our favorites is JIMADOR which is around 12 US a liter. They had a special 1 liter and a 250Ml bottle for the same price. Good luck and SALUD!

:wave2: I will be looking for tequila. The brand that i am looking for is Grand Centenario Anejo. Could you tell me if this would be easy to find.

Thanks :wave2:

I think that I have seen this Tequila in Casa Arias (by the Aquarium). They have one of the largest selections of liquors in Mazatlan. Good luck!

Frank how far is this from Maztlan. Can we go here on your city tour?]

It is around 20 minutes away from the ship. About two blocks from Sr Frogs restaurant bar. Yes, of course we can make a stop there. Time is going by so fast and you are almost here! I can´t wait! :cool1:

Have a great trip!

We were so happy to see the Disney Magic arrive in Mazatlan on its first westbound 14 day cruise. It is a beautiful ship! I got to meet some real nice people which were Sarah and her family. What a GREAT group. I left the area early, but I heard that even the Governer of Sinaloa was there to greet the Magic. It was a big thing here. I will check the papers tomorrow to tell you what else happened that I did not get to see.

So hope to meet more of you on the following cruises of the Disney Magic to Mazatlan.

If you are planning on buying Silver in Mazatlan, be careful on the beach or street. Many of these vendors say it is silver when it is not. It is Alpaca, which is plated. Shines nice but 2 or 3 days later, it changes the color of the neck or wrist. I recommend going to a store. The cost is normally between 1 and 2 US dlls. per gram. In Mazatlan there are many stores that sell REAL silver. One is called Michaels Gallery. Ask for Miguel Ortega and he will give you a good Discount. He is a friend of mine. You can be sure that he has the real siver for sure. There are many other places of course.

Hope this little information helps!

Frank-Are there any stores in the Golden zone (near the Los Sabalos hotel)? We are taking our beach excursion there and are planning to go shopping in the Golden Zone. I really would like to buy some silver jewelry but I don't want to get scammed!!!

Thank you so much for all your help! What would we do without you!!!!!

As you leave Los Sabalos, you turn left and walk by the Playa Mazatlan Hotel, across from there, is the Azteca Inn Hotel. Next to the Azteca Inn is a store called Mr. Indio. They have a nice selection of REAL Silver and also a little Gold. Mr. Ruben Espino is the owner.
By the way, on my last trip to Puerto Vallarta, I noticed that many stores sell Alpaca, so be careful there. The ones I mention here in Mazatlan do have the real thing.

Enjoy your cruise next week!

We just got off the Magic today in LA. We went to Stone Island in Mazatlan and had a great time. Unfortunately jelly-fish had arrived a few days before and some people got stung and went back to the ship.

We stayed and had a wonderful lunch and a good time just hanging out. There is horse-back riding, we didn't do it there but I know of some who did and had a great time. Unfortunately one lady was thrown from a horse. Hopefully she is fine.

The people running the excursion went well above and beyond what would expected otherwise. We were very pleased with everything there.

It is so nice that you had a great time. I heard about the Jelly fish, that was too bad. Normally jellyfish come out when it rains. The rainy season has not started yet. I really hope that you enjoyed my City!
