Maybe they ran short on "dream" ideas?

I posted this over on the Trip Reports board because I couldn't find this board initially, so am posting now in the right place.....


Just back from a two week trip, and I'm happy to say that we did have one of the "Million Dream" experiences.......DS-7, his grandparents, and I were standing around behind the big Mickey hat at MGM waiting for his older siblings and DH to catch up with us after riding the "wild rides" when a few of the Disney housekeeping people called DS-7 over. They had a basket of plastic fruit which they spread across the sidewalk, and then they had him use their "trash pick-up claws" to pick-up the plastic fruit and put it back in the basket. They then proudly awarded him a Million Dreams certificate that stated something about him always remembering that moment.

I have to say he did think it was kind of fun......I'll have to wait another 30-40 years to see if it turns out to be one of his life's most memorable moments.

My parents were still commenting days later that they "didn't get it."

I purposely avoided reading this board because I didn't want any of the Million Dreams to be spoiled before our trip......figured I'd go along happily and just enjoy being there which we very much did.....I think I always will remember this "dream" though with a chuckle in my heart so I guess it did indeed accomplish what they set out to do!

Sure it was a little thing, but thet little things also make kids day! I think it's great that they do so many small things, it's always great to be picked as someone special. Congrats!

Your experience was a Magical Moment, not a "Dream" it is great that your son thought it was fun... I bet he does remember it. Down the road he is going to be like... Mom when we were at Disney did I ever play with fruit in the street, I seem to remember that but then thought I must be crazy! Kids remember the strangest things. My only memory from the first trip to Disney is Hoop Dee Doo, out of everything we did (I was 5) that was what stuck with me.

Each location has magical moments in place that they do through out the day. For example, riding in the front of the Monorail, Guest Conductor on the Train, A Free ice cream because you were number 47 for the day...just a little something to make you smile. Disney has always done these type of things, but they are in abundance this year. They are not technically "Dreams" they are just to make you smile and have fun!

OP - I totally get what you're saying. Out of all the things they could think of for a magical moment, picking up plastic fruit with a trash picker is WEIRD. Glad you had fun!

The Magical Moments Certificates always have the logo for the celebrations that is taking place. So, it will have the Where Dreams Come True logo (or Year of a Million Dreams logo...depending on what version the area has) on it, but it represents a magic moment that has taken place. It can get confusing but, The only "dreams" when they refer to "The Year of a Million Dreams" are the official prizes that are listed as a part of the actual sweepstakes Giveaway. All the other special little things that the CM's are doing are Magical Moments. The Celebrations is "Where Dreams Come True" the Sweepstakes is "The Year of a Million Dreams".

We had a "magic moment" when we stood in a store in MGM - there was a chalk board up with some movie trivia questions and me and my DBF discussed it between ourselves and came up with the answers...the CM had been listening in and as we got all the questions right we got a small certificate!! I was so excited (daft at 29 I know) and it will go in the scrapbook for this trip (my 1st and DBF's 4th)....

Even if you don't get a certificate at WDW for doing things, seeing things or being involved - if a moment makes you smile, feel warm and fuzzy or comes back later in life when you need a cheery thought - it's a magic moment!!
