Maybe DVC could build their own boat

With the cost of the DCL ever increasing, maybe DVC should consider their own floating offsite resort.......The DVCCL (Disney Vacation Club Cruise Line).

They could sell points for it that would be interchangable with the other DVC resorts.

How much does it cost to build one of those boats? More than the cost to build any of their other DVC resorts?

It would sure solve the problem of the gouging on the exchange points.

BTW, If the reason the cruise points keep increasing is due to the inability to rent all the DVC points traded, maybe DVC could work out a deal with DCL for a cash land/sea package. The land portion could be at a DVC property. That would sure help fill any DVC rooms that may be going unrented. Don't the current land sea packages require you to stay at a WDW resort??

Perhaps he's thinking of a smaller version.

I think the big cost is the crew and staff for the "boat", it takes a lot of people to operate.

I didn't check to see how much exchages for cruises outside of Disney have increased, the Alaska cruise looked good. Maybe with the increased availability and excellence in cruise lines, exchanges will offer more favorable use of points than the lower value that DVC points seem to be having for the DLC.

It looks more attractive to pay cash for another cruise and combine it with a shoreside DVC resort stay for a nice vacation. I like the idea of the combination packages being suggested as a way to increase value and "point creep."

I guess I could tend bar, or lifegard. I wouldn't have to check too many resort IDs at the pool to turn away local pool crashers......

If it has a pool, that may kick up the size to being a ship.....

But, wouldn't a trade to your individual 3 - 10 bedroom boat with a dedicated crew be something? How about trades to a first class riverboat going down the Mississippi? They are pretty expensive trips by cash. I've never heard of a floating timeshare, it's certainly and idea. Someday, I hope to take the rafting adventure. I'm sure the Disney certified version is first class.

One of the web sites is down, but the other claims maintenance is $500/person/year. Of course you would need to decide if this was really worth it or not. For 2 people, that's right in the same range as DVC - for larger families, it might start to look a little pricey.
