Hi,
Any recent reviews of the Maya Grill. We are stayint at the CSR in September and are planning a full day at Sea World. We figured it would be easiest to dine at Maya Grill instead of getting on another bus to go somewhere else after taking the bus to SW. We have a 5 & 7 year old. I've read very good and very bad reviews of Maya Grill. Anyone been there recently? Also would be interested in knowing what Fish Al Pastor is, how it is prepared. Thanks for any help.

Kathy

I have never been there, but Kevin on the disunplugged podcast just did a review a few weeks ago. You can listen to it online...

Anyway, he thought the food wasn't very good and the prices were outrageous. I probably won't be trying it anytime soon. Maybe you'll get more replies from people who have actually eaten there but I thought I'd share what I heard!

We stay at the CSR every year, and have only had breakfast at the Maya Grill. Someone did a review of it a few days ago and they were pleased with it. I guess like anything, if it is something you want to try, you should try it. Everyone has such different tastes--in food (we hate Hollywood & Vine and a lot of people like it) and resorts (we love CSR and POFQ, but none of the other moderates). It is personal taste in the long run.

Hi Kathy! :goodvibes I am curious by what bus you will be taking to Sea World? I am asking because we are "branching out" a bit this year and plan two SW days while staying at WDW (we are at Pop for 14 days). We have not ventured off property (being the whole WDW area) very much and would gladly welcome a bus versus taking our own car! Thanks! Kimberly

Hi,

There are good and bad reviews of every single restaurant at WDW. Just because someone else liked a place does not mean you will and vice versa. If the menu looks interesting to you and there is a conveneince factor since you are staying at the resort, give it a try.

Hi Kimberly,
I read on the Seaworld Boards that the cheapest way to get to Sea World is to get a bus from your hotel to the Magic Kingdom Transportation Center and the busses to Seaworld pick you up there for around $1.50 per person. That is how I am planning to get there. I have heard of others calling for pickup from a local transportation company, but it was expensive.

I love Maya Grill. We had a great meal there and I had a wonderful steak that I still think about! We also tried a few of the appetizers, I remember the chalupa was really good and the fried plantains.

No offense to that one reviewer but he is your typical reviewer. He goes in there looking for details the average diner doesn't know or care to know about and I think like most reviewers he almost goes in looking to be displeased, not pleased. He dissects every morsel and I often find his reviews to be amusing if nothing else. His reviews are about going to a restaurant with a party of adults and doing a review. My review is based on needing a place to eat with my family, after a long day, in the convenience at our own resort. I agree with the other poster, each and every WDW restaurant will have fans and critics. If you don't try the ones that get bad reviews, you'll be in trouble!

I think for you and your day, Maya Grill would be perfect. I know the day we went, my family had done Blizzard Beach and our inlaws had gone to the Kennedy Space Center. So like you we wanted something easy, right at our resort. We all loved it. I didn't find the prices to be any worse than other WDW places. Its all overpriced for the most part!

To me it was a nice atmosphere, we had good service, we had an age range of 9 to 70 and everybody was happy. My inlaws love their gourmet food and they aren't always easy to please. They really enjoyed it. Then afterwards we strolled back to our room around that beautiful resort. It was perfect.

We ate at the Maya Grill one evening at it was really great service & food.

  • I ordered the Char-Grilled Chicken Breaste w/ steak fries & mixed Veggis - $20
  • DH had Tamarind Marinated Rack of Lamb w/ mashed potatoes and couscous - $28
  • DS4 had Grilled Chicken Parmesan - $8.25

Our meals were hot & delicious. I had been there the year before as well while attending a conference it would definitely do it again.
