May Med Magic - May 15 2010 - Meet thread

I have a rental car from Budget that is to be at port at 8:30. I have paid for an additional driver. I also downloaded my GPS with maps for Malta as well as the rest of Western Europe yesterday. If anyone is interested in being my additional driver and using the car in the morning in Malta let me know. I can program in a route of the places you want to see and we could meet back up at mid-day. Half of the car rental would be about 25 euros or $35 US. Depending on your home country you may need an international drivers license.

We also bought some pacsafe bags and socks with zippered pockets. I should hope I would notice someone touching my leg to get to the socks ;)
Don't count on it! These folks are *really* good. I like to tell the story about one time I was in Las Vegas. I don't gamble much, so I got $10 worth of quarters at the cashier's window, and put them in a plastic bucket. I then scanned the room to look for some poker slots. I looked down, and every last quarter was gone from the bucket. Just a couple of seconds, and I didn't see or hear or feel a thing. You can never assume you'll notice!

Don't fall for the "beggars" or anyone saying they found a ring. These are typical scams. I actually had someone try to pull the ring scam on me by the Eiffel tower in Paris. I found it was worth reading up on some of the common scams so you can be prepared on how to react. Trust me, some of them are very very good and very believable.

I about rolled over laughing so hard when I saw this. The chairman (or something like that) for air saftey with the EU was being interviewed and was quoted as saying..." the problem is the jet engines suck ash". Had to play that one back a few times. I hope I don't get stuck on a plane to europe and find out the engine sucks ash.:rotfl::happytv:

:lmao::rotfl2: That is classic!

You know in the good old days, ash in engines would be an issue that NASA would have been working on and actually have some preliminary developments done (back when they had money and a mission to dream). We have solved so many problems that way, fire retardant safety clothing, thermal vision, oxygen producing self contained breathing apparatus, satellite positioning, and so on, and so on, and so on. So Jeff, if I were flying into Northern Europe for my connection and had volcano problems when it was time to leave, it would just be your fault.:umbrella::umbrella:

But since we don't have that answer yet I guess having to fly through Atlanta is not such a bad thing after all.

Wow, those poor folks on the 4-24, some are being told they will fly, some are getting to Madrid and others are having no luck. As they begin to open portions of the European airspace some airlines are telling people there planes are out of position and it will be days before they can get them to Barcelona. For us hoping for the best, the winds are supposed to shift today or tomorrow and push some ash back north.

Jeff, you're a machine! I may need to check your thyroid.:worship:

Same here with being worried about leaving. Things are not looking good at all....sigh....3.5 weeks is alot but not really with how long things take to straigten out. I have a non stop from newark to barcelona on continental and barcelona is one of there affected cities right now and tonights flight to bcn was cancelled.

jlwhitney,

It looks like you're on the 5-15 cruise but don't see you on the Roll Call. Are you with someone else that's on there already? Did we miss you? :)

On the Links page on the website I changed the link for the EBTA thread to the new thread "Live From the Magic" (12 pages) they've been posting. I thought that other thread was awfully quiet.

Edit: Also added a new link to the top of the Links page that statuses the airports affected by the ash cloud (From New York Times). It has a nice map on there.

Edit #2: I changed the dining/show schedule on the Cruise Info tab. Based on what's been done on the EBTA cruise and what our schedule was in 2007, I'm convinced that we'll do the Flavors of the Med dinner theme and Crew Talent Show on the La Spezia port day and Pirate night will be the next night when we're in Ajaccio.

Is there anyone besides me who is stressing about the volcano and cancelled flights? My flight goes through Charles de Gaulle - Paris on the 14th. :headache:

I have been looking at transatlantic cruises. There's a cruise on Crown Princess leaving Ft. Lauderdale on May 1. It gets into Barcelona on May 12. I wish I could book it - I'm living in a hotel as my house gets renovated anyway. But my daughter has a big competition that ends May 2. Unfortunately, the competition is more important than the trip.

Oh your not alone. :scared: I have been quite worried. We will be traveling via London and they seem to be fairing the worst at the moment. I'm trully praying that things start moving quickly. My boss actually has a safari trip in Africa and was scheduled to depart this Thursday via London. We are all pins and needles around here.

I got it and was rolling :rotfl: because I had the same thought. I have an iphone and I love all those crazy apps.

I dont even have my Ipad yet and I keep going to the apple app store looking for different options. Didn't see the thyroid app but there is one that post normal values of various serum and based studies so I have that going for me.

Any "Lost" fans on this cruise? We've been watching this show since the beginning and will TiVO the finale but man I hate waiting! :bored::(

It would sure be nice of DCL (given their affiliation with ABC) if they were to show it on their ship TV!
