Speaking of movies, I'm glad to see DCL is showing Alice in Wonderland in 3D, Sherlock Holmes & Princess & the Frog. I haven't seen any of those.

I just hope they show them when I am still awake. Have not seen any of them yet either.

Any "Lost" fans on this cruise? We've been watching this show since the beginning and will TiVO the finale but man I hate waiting! :bored::(

It would sure be nice of DCL (given their affiliation with ABC) if they were to show it on their ship TV!

I am a lost fanatic! We have a season recording set already so we don't miss it. It would be nice to catch it but with the time difference, I doubt I would be awake for the thing anyway. We are also survivor and amazing race geeks. Got to go upstairs now to watch 24.:happytv:

I haven't seen Alice or Princess & the Frog. Looking forward to it!

I've seen Sherlock Holmes, and it's fabulous! You'll love it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

I'm wondering if they'll show "Dancing With the Stars" on the cruise. It's all Disney, after all!

I wish there was an app to suck the ash out of the air...

Susan and I are Survivor fans too.

I found an online "paper" by the USGS on affects of volcanic ash on jet engines. I was not aware of the instances of airliner engines flaming out.
I retract some of my belief about politicians being overly-conservative; however, the most severe effects seem to be in fairly close proximity to the eruption where the particle density would be higher.

The potential for a disastrous outcome of an ash-cloud encounter has been illustrated by three dramatic incidents (Miller and Casadevall, 2000). The first occurred in 1982 when a Boeing 747 flying at night over water with 240 passengers flew into an ash cloud about 100 miles from Galunggung volcano, Indonesia. The aircraft lost power in all four engines and descended 25,000 ft from an altitude of 37,000 ft above sea level. After 16 minutes of powerless descent, the crew was able to restart three engines and make a safe landing in Jakarta. A few weeks later, a second Boeing 747 with 230 passengers encountered an ash cloud from another eruption of the same volcano. The aircraft lost power to three engines and descended nearly 8000 ft before restarting one engine and making a nighttime emergency landing on two engines. In both cases, the aircraft suffered extensive damage, and large death tolls were barely averted. A third nearly tragic incident occurred in 1989 related to an eruptive event at Redoubt volcano in Alaska, USA. A Boeing 747 with 231 passengers was nearing Anchorage International Airport and flew into what looked like a thin layer of altocumulus but was actually an ash cloud. The aircraft lost power to all four engines and descended for four minutes over mountainous terrain. Within only one to two minutes of impact, the engines were restarted, and the aircraft was safely landed in Anchorage. Damage was estimated at more than US $80 million.

Some more recent documented encounters in August 2000 did not involve engine failure but were nevertheless very dangerous (Rossier, 2002). A Boeing 737-800 nearing Japan's Narita Airport flew into an ash cloud from an eruption that had occurred about an hour earlier at Mijake-jima volcano, located about 100 miles from the airport. The aircraft's engines functioned, but the flight management computer and electronic engine controls failed. Handicapped further by severe loss of visibility due to abrasion of all but a small part of the windscreen, the crew managed a safe landing. Soon thereafter on the same day, a 747 had a similar experience. For each aircraft, replacement of engines and windscreen cost US $5 million.

Staying in an airport hotel, I hear the planes taking off right by my window. A large jumbo took off a while ago, which got me to thinking and checking the yyz website. Flights to Amsterdam, Charles de Gaulle, Dubai, Rome and others took off tonight. The airports that seem to still be no- go's are Frankfurt, Munich and Heathrow.

we don't know a word about wine tasting and don't drink wine very much.......and the problem of the lenguage for my wife.

do you think we could enjoy it? what do you do in wine tasting.....

Hola, while looking for another post, I came across yours....must have missed it before...my husband and I both speak Spanish so whether it's for the wine tasting or otherwise, your wife will have 2 more fellow DISers to speak to. :wave2:

Huge Lost fans here, too! I think the finale needs to be shown on the Ariel view screen over the pool. How cool would that be?? But seriously, we are going to DVR it and hope we don't run into any spoilers.

We are also excited to see Alice in 3D. We actually did not go to the theater to see it so we could experience it on the ship.

My daughter Kate is a Lost fan also, and hopes to see it on the ship because she's worried that people on land will give away the ending.

I just saw on DU's website that they were offering only $100 OBC for Cat 12's vs the $250 they were offering when I booked. I hope they didnt change it. Time to contact my TA I guess.

I watched Lost from the very beginning, religiously, for years. But I just lost interest in it after Michael shot himself. Just couldn't get back into it. I tried watching the big catch-up episode this year to get back into it for the last season, but just couldn't do it...

Oh your not alone. :scared: I have been quite worried. We will be traveling via London and they seem to be fairing the worst at the moment. I'm trully praying that things start moving quickly. My boss actually has a safari trip in Africa and was scheduled to depart this Thursday via London. We are all pins and needles around here.

We're keeping up with the news but haven't started stressing out yet. I'm with Jeff. We don't leave for another 3 weeks, they would have to come up with some solutions by then. And it looks like the ban is being is lifted at most airports.

We are huge LOST fans too. I wouldn't mind soaking in the hot tub and watching it over the Aerial Vision or whatever they call the Jumbotron either.

The direct flight from Denver to Frankfurt took off tonight and the news said that the airport should be open by the time they land in the morning.

I never got into Lost...I'm going to wait until its over and then catch up. :)

I'm sure glad I bought travel insurance. My boyfriend (ok, that just sounds weird at my age!) has a friend who is stuck in London and is going to have to scrap their planned trip to dive in Fiji because they can't get out and have already missed the boat (and 5 days) of their trip.

I really hope that everyone on the 4/24 cruise gets to Barcelona. The resourcefulness of some of the folks on that thread to find alternate routing is amazing!

I hope not - we're currently a couple of episodes behind you lucky americans - and the temptation to skip to the finale while onboard would be awfully high.

Then again it might not be advisable for me to watch onboard because if i find out that it's all a dream and hurley wakes up in the shower then i might actually hold mickey hostage until there's a better ending made :rotfl2::lmao:

The 1982 British Airways incident with ash has the best quote fom a pilot ever

Imagine - plane is dropping, oxygen masks deployed, captain comes over the intercom...

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are all doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress."

Just so World War 2 British fighter pilot type speak.

I think even if i was crashing i'd still find it funny (for a few seconds anyway).

FE update - group A

disneyuncle hadn't given me his daughters names:

Hope is 10 1/2 and Alexis is 11 (12 onboard)

Online version of lists is updated if you want to download a replacement.
