Hi everyone...31 days!!!

I was speaking to this woman originally from the Naples area and I told her we were going to Pompeii while docked in Naples. She told me of Herculaneum, another site ruined by the 79 AD Vesuvius eruption she thought was as visit worthy if not more than Pompeii. I came across this video of Herculaneum that I thought was quite interesting.

She also mentioned that the Naples museum is a must see!

Just thought I'd share!

I guess as you talk about the Archeological museum.

Here is a little map of the downtown of Naples which includes different points of interest (+ some complement of information when you click on the pictures). The museum is on the north of the map 'Museo Nazionale' (where number 1 is displayed) :

Auntlynne posted the following in the 4-24-10 Med Thread. She's currently on the EBTA cruise.

Euros exchange

Per the front desk, 100 euros will cost you $140.03 onboard.

Looking at the exchange rate yesterday it was 1.3615 or 100 Euro = $136.15, so not a huge premium being charged by DCL. Again, they will exchange cash for cash but will only take a check for a max of $100 per stateroom.

Whoohoo! I can't believe that ONE MONTH from now, we'll be onboard the Magic in Barcelona!!!! It still doesn't seem completely real to me. You might have to slap me once we board, because that is probably when it will hit me!

For currency exchange on the ship... do you think you have to have physical US currency with you or can they charge your debit card? :confused3

Got it. I also have K8e and peterpanstout but haven't sent official updates to the concierge yet until a couple more days. She wants to to send them in bulk to keep up with them. Jeff, next week I will send you a PM with the boardnames and numbers to add to the web site for everyone.

I was off a half day yesterday and met with the TA. We are looking at a five hour layover in Atlanta before flying to Barcelona and I am pretty sure that will be miserable with a seven and nine year old. We were thinking of buying passes to the Crown Room (or whatever its called for Delta). Has anyone been there, done that? Is it worth the expense (I have no idea what it costs). Is it suitable for kids?

We started working on our fish extender today!!! Going to make it from scratch and by that I mean... my wife is going to make it by scratch:thumbsup2
I finally got part of my fish extender gifts in. I suppose we will get a number next week when the sign up closes.

WE SAIL IN ONE MONTH!!!!

Rash,

I've used the Crown Room in Cincinnati and Frankfurt so I would think they would be similar to Atlanta's. It was a nice quiet place to stretch out with some munchies (snack mix) and sodas, beer/wine, etc. Seemed to me to be very business orientated. I didn't see anything really for kids to do outside of using free wi-fi or watching tv.

Yes, you have to have physical currency *except* for the $100 per stateroom that you can get by them cashing a check. You can't charge it to your KTTW card or to a debit card. Hence, you either carry a lot of cash (Euros/dollars with you) or you hit up the ATMs in port. If you do the latter, it'd probably be wise to check with your bank and find out what kind of fees they charge. It's a good idea anyway to call your bank and holder of any credit card(s) you plan to use to let them know you're going to be traveling out of the country. Otherwise, they might deny your out-of-country charges as suspicious.

Isn't it great!!! My countdown timer on my work computer just hit 27 days and 23 hours until I leave...not that I'm counting! :rotfl2:

My boyfriend is leaving to go diving in Palau next week. Between the two of us we have suitcases everywhere. :)

Thank goodness we aren't trying to fly in to Europe today. British airspace has been closed due to the volcano ash from Iceland.

It's a very unusual sight looking to the sky and not being able to see a single plane.

it's good fun (or not!) i'm trying to get a colleague/good friend home from Munich. SO far his boss has made him fly to Paris - not that he can get home from there. (And to top it all we had a hotel room booked for him in munich but there's nothing at paris airport -guess he'll be spending a night at Charles De Gaulle on the uncomfy floor or chairs)

Glad i'm here!

It certainly is quieter.

They just closed all airports here in Belgium until 10pm tonight and will make further decisions after that. Glad we don't have to travel yet. They expect us to have ash here in Belgium by morning. I wish anyone out there traveling in Europe good luck for tomorrow.

My sinuses are going to be killing me.

My wife and I did a cruise on the Paul Gaugan through the south pacific 3 years ago and I dove almost every day. It was nothing short of amazing and if he doesn't have a dive camera then he will shoot himself when he arrives. Every view is a screen saver.

He's actually been to the South Pacific several times to dive. He showed me one of his videos from his 2006 trip last night. I'm ready to sign up for diving classes now so I can see it for myself! It is absolutely breathtaking.

Open water diving is amazing. Pictures and videos don't do it justice. Think of pictures you take on land of something amazing...no matter how good a photographer you are you just can't capture it fully. Night diving is whole other mind-blowing experience.

Jeff, have you ever done DiveQuest at Epcot? I'm planning to do it this December.
