Hi!!!
We are interested in Rome on our own by train. If we are meeting at 7:30 am in front of Lumiere's, which train do you think we can take: 7:59 "or" 8:41?
Ciao. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Since the ship's schedule to get off the ship is at 7:45, I'm thinking 8:41 train is more realistic. We'd get to the Rome Terminal at 9:50.

We are also planning to do Rome on our own via train & are interested in travelling from the Port with others on this thread. Have read up on how to do it and it seems fairly straightforward but safety in numbers and all that!

That's exactly my thoughts. Once we get to Rome, we can split up if people want to do different things, but at least we have more people making sure we're not catching the wrong train and ended up somewhere else!

Here's a list of people who are interested in meeting up in front of Lumiere's:
- Travelbee (aka Connie, Sean & Allison)
- HelenMartinez (aka Helen, Nelson, Aiden & Colin)
- Jubes (Jubes, DH, DD & DS)
- Jojo6617 (aka Joanne, Michael & Perry)
- Ebony (aka Jan & Carl)
- Pilar7 (aka Pilar, Miguel Angel & DS)
- Emmalouisenicholson (aka Emma, Phil & Ben)
- DFSC (Felicia & Dan)
- Dawne577 (Dawne & DH)
- WED (Ella & Kidani)
- AlohaJoe (Joe, DW, DS & DD)
- jxt203 (jxt203, DH, DS, DD, Grandmom, Grandpop & Sister)

I received an email from the hotel confirming that it has indeed opened. Looks like we're set!

Excellent! :cool1:

I'd be happy to add to the web site a listing by port for those wanting to group together for DIY touring. I'm a definite believer in safety in numbers. As I recall AlohaJoe you were also talking about something in Ajaccio, correct?

I heard back from Disney and they stated that they can definately do a private wine tasting. They have not given me definative information but they stated it would be during an at sea day. I will try to put together a list of everyone who was interested and post it here. Maybe we can get it posted on the website. I may need names and room numbers but dont send that info yet until I know for sure. I am officially stoked about this cruise and I appreciate all the work on the lanyards. If you need some bank to help with the cost, let me know.
I have a question that my MIL and wife were curious about. Do we need to take our passports with us when we leave the ship or will our liscense suffice. I have not traveled on a cruise outside of the caribbean and on our recent cruise on RCCL, we never took our passports out of the safe and a keycard and ID were fine. Then there is the question of do you take it regardless in case you miss the ship. Curious what everyone thought.
This is who I have so far for the wine tasting. We needed at least 20 people and if everyone is still in, we should knock that out of the park. Some people expressed interest but did not give me the numbers in their party and Im missing some names. I also got this list after going back to the board and looking at the posts so I fear I may have left someone out. If you don't see your name on this list or if there are more please PM me since it gets hard to keep up with the board b/c of the number of posts.

Hello all,

My husband and I will be on this cruise with our teen son & daughter (18 & 17) and are looking forward to meeting many of you.

We are a very well behaved group ;) (hubby works for Disney here in Orlando) and this trip is to celebrate our two great kids who are graduating from high school and going off to college in the fall.

Kim

Welcome Kim,

Our daughters graduated last year and went off to college this year, it was a little harder than I thought it would be. We have a couple of puppies which made it a little easier I guess. Where are yours going to College ?

I was hoping to make the 7:59 train. Based on AlohaJoe's comment, we may need to move the meeting time to 7:15 am if we want to catch the 7:59 train?

I didn't go back too many pages so if I leave anyone out, please chime in!

Don't forget me! and my daughter Joanna! :yay: We were one of the first ones so maybe you didn't make it back that far. Don't blame ya, this is one long and busy thread.:cheer2:

Aloha,

I threw together a google map for those wanting to walk Rome. The total is 5 miles and reality is it will be closer to 7 when you are done I swear. I have chosen again to leave off Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. They could be added easy enough it would add another mile at least to the trip. Walking time is 1 hr 38 compared to 51 minutes by car. So you lose a little time but you experience the real Rome. Or so they say. My family is vegetarian thus the choice of restaurant at stop D. Lunch time will be around the Pantheon so you can search for a restaurant online near there or just wait and see what is available when you get hungry. It is quite easy to take the metro from the Coloseum to Termini station and that will save those that are tired (my family) 1.2 miles of walking at the end of day.

Link to map is: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=d&...1.893397,12.484846&spn=0.020381,0.037336&z=14

AlohaJoe

Amazing map Aloha! Thanks

They will be going to a small private college here in Florida - Pensacola Christian College. It's about 6 hours from our home and I think I am going to miss them dreadfully. My daughter wants to be a nurse and my son is majoring in engineering. I have homeschooled them, so besides loosing the full-time Mom position, I will also be losing my day job! I am going to have to find something to keep me busy because its going to get pretty boring around here.

Thanks for asking, Kim:)

Hi All,

Some more new additions to add to the ship, my Ma and Pa were unsure whether they would be coming for definite on this cruise , but have decided to join us now ( I think it must have been the upgrade that swung them! :rotfl:) ... So they are : Julie (47) and Rob (49) and will be in 6648.

Here's a pic for the roll call Jeff :)

Sorry the pic is massive!

I just found some really cool videos that DCL just posted on their website!! They have a short video on each Med port and it's excursions and there's also a link to download them on iTunes or wmv format. Go to your reservation then planning library > see podcasts > port adventures. Most of them are about 5-6 minutes long. :cool1:

I was just checking out the Novotel City website. They're all sold out for the day prior to our cruise.

Oooo, thanks! How cool. I can watch them now, then load them on my iPod for a watch on the plane! :yay: Just to add to the anticipation!

Hi I'm after some info about the kids clubs, my son is aged 12 going on 15 so he should really go into the oceaneer lab aged 8-12 however as he is older than his years he would prefer to go into the stack age 13-17 does anyone know if this would be a possibility.

Good news about wine tasting.

Rome I'm happy to just go with the flow just tell us what time and we be there.

Hope everyone has a good Easter.

I'm pretty sure The Stack is age 14-17 so if he's 12 that might be pushing it. I'm sure you could go up there on the first day and talk to the counselors to see if they can work out a solution for him but he might be too young... He should be able to go in any of the other clubs though since they lifted the age barrier and kids can float from one club to the other and pick which activities they want to participate in. I read that Ocean Quest is geared towards "tweens" age 11-13 years so maybe he'd have fun there! :yay:

KDAVIES 29

Nothing wrong with small Christian Colleges, lots of good people attended small Christian colleges (me Christian Brothers). I have a daughter at the College of St Benedict's which is the girls side of the St Johns / St Bens partnership, each has just over 2,000 students. When I started CBC it was all male, women admitted my 2nd year, now I think women outnumber men. I am sure they will really like it, the smaller class sizes sure make for a different college experience than places like the UofM with some 55,000 students.

Hope everyone is having a great Easter.

Just a quick reminder - FE sign up closes in 11 days. - April 15th if you're still thinking about it.

Yes, the age groups are different from the Wonder. Ocean Quest is for 11-13 year olds. My dd11 will be there. Here's the linkOcean Quest

Hi Jeff....did say that me and DH would like to join this but you might have missed that!! Please add us:thumbsup2
Finally made it to Orlando. :drive:

The traffic on I-75 was horrible...it seems like everyone was headed to Florida for Easter weekend. :scared1:

The crawl would be a stateroom crawl...simply an opportunity for others to check out in person the different types of staterooms on the ship.

While I was on I-4 I got a call from Melissa, who is the Palo coordinator for the private room that I'd faxed our request to. She wanted to let me know she'd received it (cool), wanted to confirm we understood that they only have one seating per Sea Day for brunch so each of our 3 Groups would be on separate days (understood), that anyone that currently has a Palo brunch reservation would forfeit that reservation if/when our Group request is granted (understood), and finally that I should expect to hear back from her on April 15th on our request.

And welcome to the cruise Kim! :welcome:

Sorry... I only went back 3 or 4 pages. I added you to the list and put a link on my signature to that post. Maybe when Jeff gets back from vacation, he can add that info to the website.

Happy Easter everyone!

Natalie,

I'm very sorry, but no I didn't forget. Unfortunately, the response exceeded the capacity and all the slots were already filled by the time you posted in the thread. I wish I could have accommodated everyone. :sad1:

Connie,

I already created the sub page and list for DIY groups. I'll add STLUCIELADY.

Susan and I had a fun day at Epcot today and then had dinner at Wave at the Contemporary Resort. Tomorrow morning is the launch of STS-131 (knock on wood).
