My Dh has a tux from our last cruise which he is wearing but don't think it matters at all if you don't own one....just a nice dark suit would be fine:goodvibes
Confused on the formal night. Which route are most of you taking:

Dark Suit or Tux. :confused::confused:

My DH has neither, don't really want to put him in a Tux, but if it is the norm for the men to be in a Tux my husband would be very happy to just wear a suit.

Thanks for your input.

Tux for me but that's because I have one and don't mind bringing it along. I've been on 3 DCL cruises and 8 cruises total and in none of those cruises did a majority of men wear tuxedos. I would say most men wear a dark suit (~50%) or tux (~20%) but there are still others that wear dark pants, a sport coat and tie and they are fine too (20%). A smaller number forego the tie and jacket (10%). Mind you this isn't a scientific count...just an estimate in my mind based on what I've seen.

I don't think the cruiseline cares what you use as long as it is "family friendly" :rotfl2:

My door magnets include non-disney stuff e.g. sports team logos/photos and even a picture of a raving rabbid (from the Wii video game) and no problems there.

Okay, we've decided to join in on the FE's!!! I think what was the deciding factor was that I won a "hello kitty" storage pocket for $4.01 incl shipping this afternoon. Then I bought a disney one (buy now) for $10.21 incl shipping!!!

Our info:
Room 1 (Gty)
Anne: 49 (celebrating 50th b-day on May 17th)
Keller: 52

Room 2 (Gty)
Kate: 26
Mary: 21

Thanks!!!

:thanks: Thanks everyone, I guess it's off to the store to buy him a suit. He just isn't a Tux guy.

53 days and counting:woohoo::cheer2::jumping1:

Okay, for the dinner themes, can we "dress up?" Like for Pirates in Caribbean night can we wear Pirate clothes? or for Villains, can we dress as Disney Villains?

Sounds kind of silly, but we always dress up at MNSSHP when we go to WDW in September. And, we were just wondering if they do it on the cruises.

Thanks again.

Pirates dressing up is fine. Some people really dress up with fancy constumes , others not at all. We dressed up with homemade costumes - see the pic on roll call of the website.

The prince and princess dinner is formal night so we look like princes and princesses without much effort

I don't know about villains. My feeling is that people won't dress up for villains night

COOOOOL. My husband has a CPT Hook costume and I have a sort of pirate costume. I don't know if he will want to wear it or not. But, I'm going to ask. I don't plan on dressing up as a villain, I was just using that as an example. My daughter might want to dress up in one of your dress up princess dresses for dinner, I have to look at what she has, I think she has pretty much outgrown all of them and will just have to buy her a really nice dress for the formal nights.

I'm sooo excited about this cruise.

My wife and daughter usually try to capture a bit of a wench look on Pirate Night. I usually just wear a tropical shirt and don the napkin/bandana they used to hand out; however, I seem to recall seeing on another thread that DCL doesn't provide the bandanas any more. :confused3

There's mixed messages on the free bandanas. We got them last yr on the Magic, and some people have definately had them this yr. Other people say they haven't had them.

I think it may be the Wonder that has stopped giving out the bandanas.

The bandana we had last yr was only a half size anyway so i wouldn't rely on it anyway, especially if you have a big head :lmao:

Saw this posted in the main DCL forum:

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/108872/10-things-your-cruise-line-won't-tell-you?mod=family-travel

1. "Our Engines Break Down All the Time."

It's interesting in the accompanying text they point out the number of cruises that miss some or all ports due to mechanical problems was 5% in 2007. That doesn't seem like "all the time" to me.

2. "The Weather Might Mean Missed Stops."

I thought this was made clear by all cruise lines I've been with.

3. "This Ship Is a Health Hazard -- It's Just Crawling With Viruses."

A health hazard crawling with viruses...versus anywhere else where there are lots of people clustered together...like school, work.

4. "Sure, We Can Take Care of Your Plane Reservations, but You'd Do a Whole Lot Better on Your Own."

I think this one is valid.

5. "Think Everything's Included? Think Again."

Probably valid for many people; however, again I think cruise lines make pretty clear in their literature and on their websites what is included and what's not included in the cruise fare.

6. "Our 'Gourmet' Food Is Anything But."

I take issue with the contention that "cooked to order" equates to "gourmet". Burger King makes my burger to order but its not gourmet. Also, indicating fine dining doesn't involve pre-prep of food is just ridiculous.

7. "We Make Money While You're Off the Ship, Too."

Duh! To me this is just common sense.

8. "Our Insurance? You're Better Off Looking Elsewhere."

Probably valid though I'll admit I did purchase the DCL cruise insurance. I think I'll check if I can get that changed.

9. "Our Ads Might Say Champagne and Caviar, but Expect Beer and Pretzels."

I don't get their discussion here. From this they go on to talk about dress codes and how different cruises can be themed differently. Again, my experience is that cruise lines make it pretty clear what their cruises are about.

10. "Our Ship Is Fancy, but Don't Expect Service to Match."

I'll be interested to see how this cruise compares to our 3 previous cruises in terms of service. I wouldn't be surprised to see a downturn here given the economy and incentives to cut costs.

What do you think?

We just sailed on a 7 night western caribbean March 6th and got the pirate bandanas then. I agree though that it is more than likely a "Magic" thing now... no pun intended! :))

Hi all,
Our flight leaves Barcelona at 11:20AM. I contacted a car service to ensure that we would have transportation to the airport. Here is the response I received:
"Thanks for contacting Spanish Trails Tours & Events! The price for a private transfer from the port to the Barcelona Airport is 70 Euros / van. How many people will be in your party? We will take a maximum of six people in one van. If your flight departs at 11.20am, it would be best to pick you up from your ship at 8.30am (or even 8.00am, if you'd like), so that you'll be at the airport 2 - 2.5 hours in advance."

Is anyone else interested in sharing the van? There is room for 4 more.:grouphug:

Our family of 4 has an early flight and would be happy to share a ride. Our flight is at 10:50 am but it is to Belfast so we think we will be fine if we can be there before 9:30 We can work out details via PM

My flight is at 11:20 and I'm a single. I'd be interested if you have room.

Hi Nancy, my family of 4 might be interested as we also have an 11:20 am flight....but the cost in US dollars is $96, which when divided would be approx. $64 for the 4 of us. Wouldn't a taxi be alot cheaper?? I was thinking maybe 30 euros for the whole trip; or maybe I'm way off??? Anybody know what it might cost for a family of 4 in a taxi from port to airport? Anne

No bandannas anymore on the Wonder for sure. I had one on the my first cruise in 2006 but nothing since then.

Sorted :thumbsup2

For the FE particpants - does anyone have a feeling as to how many we should have taking part before splitting into two lists?

I'm conscious some people will have fairly restrictive luggage availability so don't want the numbers to spiral out of control. I want it to be fun for everyone, not a hassle in planning and space management.

Splitting the list is a great idea. The last one we did had 40+ participants and took a long time to find them all. Perhaps we can split them between staterooms with and without children? I looked through the list and it seems evenly split right now. That way, the adult FE gifts could be more tailored to adults while the stateroom with kids get FE gifts with little toys/treats that kids enjoy?

Hi Anne, it probably is cheaper to get a taxi and I'm sure they will be lined up at the port but I would feel more secure if I knew I had transportation waiting for me. We've never done this before and I think I'm a little paranoid about getting to the airport on time.

More drama on the EBTA thread today. Apparently there was a dry erase board soap opera.

I'm so glad we all like each other!

It doesn't take much to set them off, does it? I love how the one guy went back & deleted all his posts because people disagreed with him. Gotta love it! Much happier here! :thumbsup2
