May Med Magic - May 15 2010 - Meet thread - Part 2

I can't wait to go into work today and let them know about the BA strike that could affect our flight back. Yesterday my boss calls and asks me is I had discussed with her being out for two weeks!!! Way back in January...before final payment...Being in charge is highly over rated.
Also, showers/thunderstorms for PHL Thursday into Friday, ash clouds, airports closed, strikes.
Everyone keep repeating
We will get on this ship, We will get on this ship - hopefully Saturday the 15th of 2010!

Starting to get worried about our flight. Need to go look into train tickets.

Also haven't received my FE gifts in the mail yet. I might have to give unfinished gifts and leave it up to you to do the decorating. Everything will be there except the glue. Nothing to put together, just glue the decorations onto the gift. I can't believe they aren't here yet, that stupid volcano has messed up all of our mail. Knowing the Army Postal System, my stuff is in a box on some ship between NY and here, then it has to get to Germany to be sorted, then to Belgium. I ordered this stuff in plenty of time, but that stupid volcano has got everything messed up.:headache::guilty::sad2:

AH!!!!:scared1: I just checked our Lufthansa flight on line and it said cancelled. So I called Lufthansa for them to tell me they didn't have my reservation anymore, it is now through German Wings. They changed the times and the baggage allowance and no notification what so ever! If I didn't look on line I would have never known. I HATE discount airlines and do not book with them because of the baggage allowance issues. I AM SO FLIPPIN' MAD I COULD SPIT!!!! I just spent an hour on the phone with Lufthansa, they told me nothing they can do it's German Wings problem...another hour on the phone with German Wings that tells me nothing they can do it's Lufthansa's problem......AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!:scared1::mad::headache:

Oh no.

Fingers crossed you get it all straight.

Can't bleive Lufthansa didn't tell you the flight had changed airline! :scared1:

Hi jlwhitney

Is there a reason why you choose to hike between Corniglia and Manarola ?

Us we are thinking of doing the ferry til the last village (monterosso). Then take the train to Manarola. Do the "Via dell' Amore" between Manarola et Riomaggiore (It is the easiest path of Cinque Terre). Also thinking of stoping to Portovenere

Basicially picked it since my Aunt was just at the Cinque Terre in April and she said that was the easiest section (not including the real real easy section) that gives you a feel of hiking between them and she said it should take between 1 hr and 1 hr 15 min....kinda planned my day on her recommendations since she had a good idea for time and such.

Update on volcano things:

Madrid is closed today, as are some Southern Spanish airports. Fingers crossed it keeps drifting further north-west.

Seems like TA flights are being delayed as they are having to divert around the ash

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8674241.stm

We leave tomorrow and arrive in Madrid Thurs. morning to connect to Barcelona. This is starting to worry me a little. Oh well, don't know what else to do. :confused3 Anne

Ah, crap! Up until now, my one consolation was that I was flying through Madrid, and it was the one area not affected! That if I could get to Madrid, I could get to Barcelona somehow! I wonder if my flight would just continue on to Barcelona & not land? (We have a "stop" in Madrid, but I don't change planes). Arrrrrrrrrggggggggh!!!! Supposed to leave Thursday evening. Guess it's time to check with Iberia.

I was at the park the yesterday and I began to wonder... Why is that frizbee getting bigger? Then it hit me.

I was at the park the yesterday and I began to wonder... Why is that frizbee getting bigger? Then it hit me.

Thanks for that! I needed a little laugh before getting on the phone again, after 2.5 hours. Good times, good times...

Wish me luck. Time to unleash the beast on Lufthansa.:sad2:

I like the "a different style of onboard service. " bit... :rolleyes1

TBH, I don't care what service i get onboard providing i get to my destination. They can dance down the aisles naked and throw cold baked beans over me and i actually wouldn't complain.

You could try telling them that they are as unefficient as a Rover factory and that the English will win the world cup in June. That'll get them annoyed.

Oh, I'm with you on that! I thought it was just a fun way for them to say "Your cabin crew may not know what they're doing!" :)

We're doing the following:

Malta - Explore Valletta ourselves as its all very compact
Tunis - DCL excursion - 1/2 day Carthage and Medina, then pm we'll spend an hour or two exploring area around dock there's supposed to be some interesting fish restaurants
Naples - DCL excursion - Hike Vesuvius and Pompeii (I've been to Pompeii before and really wanted to go up Vesuvius, the schedule for this excursion suited us and is paid for by some of our OBC)
Civitavecchia - Hanging around Civitavecchia - seeing the small number of sights there and will do some shopping. Willikely spend the afternoon kicking around on the almost empty ship. (I think we are going to be one of the few people not going to Rome)
La Spezia - Again hanging around in the port area, there's museums and a marina to chill out in.
Ajaccio - Explore town ourselves, visit the Napoleon sights (some are open some are not)
Villefranche - Going by train or bus to Monaco - walk the F1 circuit, see the sights. Head back to Villefranche and if we have time we will mooch around the old town/beach there.

We are not doing Rome either. We have been there previously so DH and I opted not to return on this trip. We are planning on going to Tarquinia. It is an ancient Etruscan village that dates to the 8th century BC and is a very short train ride from Civitavecchia.

Glad i'm not the only one.

Rome is nice and have been before, but for us its really easy to get there for a long weekend and do it properly rather than spend ages ona bus or train to get there and rush around the main sights in just a few hours.

I'm mostly on this cruise for the ship rather than the ports. Don't get me wrong the ports are nice and we will explore.

I also quite like the fact that the ports (like Civitavecchia and La Spezia) aren't where tourists normally visit but are still interesting places in themselves.

So you've flown with Delta too. The beans do leave stains though.
