May/June or Oct/Nov to visit

Planning our first trip, would you recommend going in May or June (I know to avoid Golden week) or the fall? Seeing the Halloween decorations are not a priority. We're looking for lower crowds and better weather.

Crowds will be lower in May and June than in the fall. Best days to go would be Tuesday-Friday. Avoid Weekends as they are insane. Sometimes at the end of June you will hit the spring festival of Tanabata which means you might see people dresses up in their summer kimonos. June might be a but rainier than May but the temperatures will still be warm.
