I don't know if it is a little too weird for your husband, but acupuncture really helped me out with my allergies. It is covered under my insurance so I only had to pay a $25 co-pay per visit. It took about five visits to get mine under control. They did recommend more, but with four kiddos, I was having a hard time making it in for appointments.
Also, as a backyard beekeeper, I would recommend honey that is local to the WDW area, if you can find any. This really only works if you start taking about a teaspoon to a tablespoon daily a couple weeks before you have a problem. I have thought I would be just fine in the past and waited too long, and then it takes what feels like forever to start helping. Honey would probably not take the place of his medications though, just add to it, unless he has diabetes or something else that he has to really watch his sugar intake.
I know I am giving advice that is a little out there, but from one allergy sufferer to another, he has my sympathy (and you too).
